- The XTAR LC4 Charger with 1.5V AA AAA Lithium Batteries give you the Smart Energy needed for Mission Critical Items such as Electronic Safes, and Locks. The Smart Batteries indicate a Low Capacity Warning by Voltage Prompting the Device their Installed in to Indicate on the Display it is time to Charge them up. Low Self Discharge, Continuous 1.5V till Empty, Lighter Weight, Built In Protection Circuit, 1500 Charge Cycles, all make for a Solid Investment. In the video I demo the Low Voltage Prompting, and explain Uses for this New Battery Technology.

Features I like about the XTAR 1.5V Batteries:
Simple Charger using a Type C 5V/2A Input.
Each Battery has its Own Charge Status LED.
Solid 1.5V Output till Depleted.
One XTAR 1.5V Battery equals Five Hundred Dry Cell Batteries.
Low Voltage Prompts. Explained in the Video. Cool Tech.
Working Temperatures from -20C to 60C, or -4F to 140F.
Low Self Discharge Technology.
Good for High Power Consumption Devices.
Decent Capacity.
Smart Charger will Charge AAAs slower than the AAs. .275A for AAAs, and .500A for AAs.
Features that could be Added or Improved on:
A longer Positive Terminal on the AAs. Helps to make a Better connection on Older Devices.
Wish there was a Low/Zero RFI Version One Day :)
Overall, a Great Battery System for many different devices requiring 1.5V Batteries, and electronics that don't handle the lower voltages of NiMH cells. Perfect for Flashlights, Toys, and others, just Not our Radios...yet.

Thank you very much for this awesome review! I came here to understand what I could use this battery for and learned important facts. I was thinking of using them in radio controlled microphones where 1.2 volts of NiMH is sometimes too low. Now I know these are not for analog signal processing devices, probably blood pressure meters would also not appreciate the operational noise of the built in converter. Big thank you again!
This review is certainly different. Most of your reviews cost me money as I end up buying a lot of the items. This review saved me money. I have been interested in these batteries to use in radios but do not need another source of RFI. Thanks a lot for the great review!
You reminded me that some devices malfunction with NiMH 1.2V so there was no rechargeable option for those devices but perhaps now there is. Good stuff.
Hej Todderbert thanks for the review the XTAR LC4 charger is very cool flashig lights disco party love it XSTAR seems to have very nice products take care and have a nice evening.
Good video. New sub here. I liked your demonstration of RFI. I am always on the lookout for low noise items as I am a Ham Radio operator. One of the worst RFI is with some DC optimizers on solar panels. But anyway I am considering leaving NiMH batteries behind and use these stronger types like XTAR. Thanks again for the video.
I have XTAR charger and batteries and never disappoint me. Good quality!
Hej thanks for the info about xstar chargers I have none so good to now that they are good take care and have a nice week.
@@NTPTM yes it's a good quality and i'm still using it to my flashlight and pocket radio. Sadly this time it's hard to find online here in my location. Hopefully i can buy new one again.
@@Madmax-TV Hej thanks for the reply I have some battery chargers the one I use the most and am very happy with is Vapcell S4+ battery charger I bought it from the Sofirn website and I have bought many Sofirn flashlights from them, I really like the Sofirn flashlight brand take care.
@@NTPTM yeah sofirn is a good brand and affordable. I got 2 sofirn and gave it as a gift.
@@Madmax-TV Hej Nice my favort Sofirn is SP35T upgraded tactical version 3800lm and great floodight take care.
I’m using 2x1.5V Keeppower lithium cells on my Sangean SR-35. They seem to work just fine.
My AAA eneloops can't keep up with my cheapo Motorola walkie talkies so I'm looking for a recharge replacement option. Any suggestions?
Interesting technology, can't wait until they get the RFI issue resolved, until then NiMH cells will have to do.
Do they last longer?
The 'step down' technology (3.7 vdc to 1.5 vdc) will block AM reception completely. I learned this the hard way.
They remain active even when stored.
@@todderbert I discovered that by placing one near the ferrite bar. It made a horrible noise.
@@richardmerriam7044 yes, not to mention Amateur Radio which I use. These batteries look good except around radios. Many solar installs also use DC-DC conversion and crush radio also. All the best from north Texas.
I’d be careful about using these in some multi cell flashlights, they could overheat an unregulated LED (usually not the highest quality lights or LEDs in the first place, and overdriven so they’re still bright enough with used alkalines).
ANY incandescent flashlight will have a very short bulb life with these. For those of us over 30 who might actually still have one.
Dr.Toddelburt,
With lion cells you should never let them go down completely. They won’t recharge again according to the mfr.
This is counter intuitive to nimh and nicd . Good stuff doc.
These have a built in safety circuit so they don't over discharge.
@@todderbert ,
Thank you for telling me that.
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question about the charger, can you charge rechargeable batteries from other brands? thank you
If they say they require a 5V charger. This is not a standard lithium based charger, and it outputs 5Vs to the Batteries.
@@todderbert thanks!!
Have you ever reviewed Zn-Mn rechargeable batteries?
Heard of them, but have not used them.
Hi is them battery very good or would you recomend diffrent one ? Thank you
These are good in toys, tools, ect. For radios, use NiMH such as Eneloops.
can you use the xtar batteries in a cordless phone
possibly. as long as the phone requires 1.5V batteries, and is 2.4GHz or higher. You could still hear a buzz on the line from them though.
I might consider these for a light, but I'm really partial to Panasonic Eneloop.
Most flashlights like NiMH, and some companies recommend the use of these over Alkalines. The Lithiums are for weight savings, and extreme temps.
Built in power handler? Might be the wrong thing for my pixie xciver.?
Correct, keep it away from any receiver, or transceiver.
My kanga and pixies will be fine de kv4li tks
How is the build quality on these batteries? I read a review somewhere that they feel cheaply made.
No issues yet. I mainly use them in my flashlights.
@@todderbert Have you tried this on other lithium ion charger? Does it work?
@@mjmj6420 It should if it supports 1.5V lithium batteries.
Not new tech, got this kind of batteries for 2 years. Mine got a led inside them that blink when charging.
I knew the Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers with removable batteries were not a bad idea.
With the Xtar L4 charger and 4 cells, you can play nonstop: charge 2 while you play then swap them out when they get low.
You cannot do that with the PS4 DualShock, PS5 DualSense, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, or Joy-Cons.
That is a BIG “W” for Xbox controllers: it ensures that Xbox controllers will continue to work 20 years from now with easily replaceable, and not hard-to-find, batteries.
Frankenstein say, "Bob Ross of batteries ".
Hi Dr T,
I bought a rechargeable Lion powered radio from Amazon. I am having no issues. It is a std replaceable battery. I wonder if it has some insulation in this radio. I will play with it and let you know why this works. Happy weekend.
Your rechargeable radio is running off the lithium's natural voltage state. These batteries are converting 3.7V down to 1.5V. The converter is what produces the RFI.
@@todderbert
I am new to Lion cells as nimh are perfect. Thank you again for the information. I will play with them so I can be more knowledgeable.
Thoughts a year later?
Still using them in my flashlights. Have to charge them up every so often. Excellent power delivery.
RFI? No sale !! it would be a great if for not that circuitry
Yes, the active circuit is really freaky. I have to keep these batteries well clear of my radio bench.
Lat week, I bought a used 1982 Casio calculator, at GW. The calculator had 2 original Casio batteries in it ....batteries still have juice.
In 1987 when I started the university I bought an HP 11c RPN handheld calculator. It was running on 3 li ion coin batteries (like those in watches), and on the plastic backplate it was hot marked "MADE IN USA” (now that everything is made in China it sounds very strange, doesn't it?). The first time I had to change the batteries it was close to 2010. I used it extensively through the university and my professional career as an engineer. I still have it and will keep using it forever. Top quality product, from an era where everything was manufactured with the state of the art to last for as long as possible. This calculator will outlast me.
I hope someone can use this on a tamiya.😂
