- Deploying the rudder from the seat. Robert and Jill share a hack so that the rudder can be raised and lowered from the cockpit. The Pelican 110 Getaway does not come with a rudder deployment line. Also, impressions after a month with this hybrid pedal kayak.

Way too much effort into this video for it to have so few views. I appreciate it & will be replicating this modification myself.
Awesome video. Thank you for giving the videos of the Pelican. I would very much like to see more videos like this.
I just got my own Pelican and can't wait to Getaway.
Awesome! Enjoy!!

Nicely done!
Yes, I know my knots are a mess…This was a quick test and I will clean up the lines. This does not imply that my 9 years in the US Navy taught me anything about line handling or knot-tying!
Great video thanks for sharing it
Great mOd
Great idea and modification! So did you eliminate the original bungee line that was on the rudder altogether? And are you using 550 paracord or something else? Thanks!
Hey guys, love your video. On the edge of getting my own Getaway tomorrow. Any real issues that you have noticed that have come up since you used it so many times? Appreciate the input as not a lot of reviews on this new product!
No issues for us yet. I think it is a great product at a good price
.im a new subscriber.. i saw you in dive talk.. in im a fan of yours now..😊
Would like to see how you ran it "through the hole".
I have one also and appears that running it through the hole will cause freying of the cord eventually because that is where the plastic fits together; creating a sharp edge as the cord is pulled and released. Did you add tape or something to help it slide?
We used high quality nylon line - no tape. It is holding up pretty well.
Wow! 🌞😎☀
You mention hitting rocks/logs etc with the rudder and it pops up.. What happens when you hit rocks/logs with the pedal system? How careful do you have to be?
I've hit a few things without seeing them and not had any issues. In shallow water you can move the fins so they are flush with the bottom of the boat by having one foot forward and one back. If you really get into a jam, you can quickly unclip and lift the pedal system. I always have a paddle on the boat in case I need to go super shallow, lift the drive system and just paddle.
Any trick to keep the weeds off the drive fins?
Not that I have come up with! I just try to stay in slightly deeper water. Let us know if you have an idea!
Hobie Lynx is better
We looked for a Lynx, but there simply were none in stock anywhere near us. We have 2 other Hobies and think they are great.
