  • Russian women are protesting. There are demonstrations, a petition and a Telegram group with 30,000 members.
    In this video we’ll examine who they are, what they want and why Moscow is using propagandists and rival groups of women in a campaign to discredit them.
    And as the Russian presidential election approaches, and the war in Ukraine drags on, the stakes are getting increasingly higher.

      This is a common misunderstanding! In fact, the Russian elites have always tried to maintain a status quo to make sure a majority of Russians support them. They're truly scared of a popular uprising, which is why Russians are kept in a propagandized environment with gradual, frog-in-the-pot restrictions of freedom, and have the habit of not trying to influence their government until they are personally negatively affected - after all, the regime "brings stability," "there is no war" (Putin's whole shtick is 'ending' the Chechen wars by paying off their leadership, staging literal terrorist attacks and reducing Grozny to rubble)

    • @georgine321
      @georgine321 Před 5 měsíci

      No, they understand. They cannot speak out against the war in any way. That is a crime and they could go to prison. This law was made just days after the full-scale invasion started and protesters did show up on the streets against it. How many women need to go to prison before all the rest do not take the chance. 2 or 3 max I would think. Kids are put in orphanages or a home far away. There is nothing warm and fuzzy about Putin’s russia. Men were not volunteering for what was supposed to take only a few days and then a mop-up. They had to offer them money because most mobilized were from further east or poor-paying factory jobs . Almost a million young men have left russia but many could not and the threat of prison, 10 years, if they refused. A bit of money for the family eased it a bit. Now there is a rolling mobilization ongoing. It’s not as noticeable as the original sweep. Russia is an enormous country with only a few decent-sized cities. And none of them are like Moscow or St Pete’s. In small towns and villages men have nowhere to flee to. Once they’ve tapped you on your shoulder (email) or in person, you are done. So they go and they and their families hope they’ll come back. Slowly they are learning that the odds are not in their favour.
      These women don’t want the war. They have no fight with Ukraine. No one asked them if it was a good idea. They are taught to be “small” people and not to think about politics. The “big” guys, Putin and his Duma and his military and his minions that rewrite history books for school kids have it all under control. But the small people are beginning to think about it. And that frightens Putin. Don’t blame these women for their caution. They are in russia.

      Hey. It is a democracy. I just spent October in Ukraine. Arestovich was also critical of Zelensky. Neither have suffered any repercussions and that is as it should be in a democracy. My own research indicates most people are still behind Zelensky. When he is in Ukraine, which is most of the time, he makes a daily televised report on the state of things to the Ukrainian people. They genuinely, as a nation and a society, want to join the EU and NATO so anything even approaching a coup would be out of the question. Not everyone there loves Zelensky but the majority are happy with him IMHO.
