  • Vladimir Putin is waging war against Ukraine and he will next attack Europe, says Andrei Illarionov, formerly a Senior Policy Adviser during Putin's early period as President. Illarionov recollects how it was to work with Putin and explains what the West must do, now, if it wishes for peace in the West.
We cannot waste time in supporting Ukraine so that Putin's madness is stopped.

@D No, more like how Russia doesn't know that Germany AND Russia invaded Poland together, and conquered it together. They had a plan to conquer Europe. Russia would conquer everything east of the new line in Poland, and Germany would conquer west. They would build space programs and send long range to the USA later. For two years after they did that, Stalin gave billions in todays money in weapons and resources to Germany to ensure the defeat of the allies. And Russia supported Germany's goals and plans. The only reason Russia joined the allies was because Germany suddenly invaded Russia by surprise while Russia was trying to conquer China. f
After ww2, while Germany was not a threat anymore, Russia still was. Everyone knew Russia would try to conquer Europe again. So the world had to adapt to Russia's threat. All countries gave up Imperialism (nations conquering other nations), we invented Globalization to deter Russia because it gives countries the power of sanctions as an another options to avoid constantly being at war. Russia and China didn't participate, but the rest did. And we created NATO so European independent countries can defend like an Empire. The reason Russians don't know ww2 history is because Russia has a separate internet and information space. And 188 countries are directly connected to the global net. We share one information space. So you aren't getting the collective history that everyone else is.

I remember when Illarionov was serving under Putin as an economic advisor. It was a while back and I recall how Illarionov was one of very few people who did not kiss up to Putin. Illarionov always appeared to handle himself as a subordinate expert but never as a subservient sleaze and never as someone seeking power. He is very well aware of his economic expertise and can confidently step in and out of his power position without any drama or as much of a mention in a media. I remember that Putin treated Illarionov with respect and regarded his expertise highly. If I'm not mistaken, Illarionov was called to serve under Putin more than once.
You will not see this man speak to the media a lot but when he does, always pay attention - he's a sober minded, a matter of fact observer and analyst. Whether you agree with him or not is irrelevant.

In the USA Trump supporters despise supporting UA, belive in fantasy narratives, conspiracy theories etc...and still after everything support trump - it's creepy how much people can rationalize extreme behavior if it's for thier own team. Europe needs to be prepared not only to increase support for UA but to also be doing it alone if trump wins. Not sure what has happened to the USA, but be prepared for anything - and without USA supporting rule of law the world will become more dangerous - mid-sized countries will arm up and any democracy can change policies at any time. Increadably frustrating to see the US trickle of long-ranged weopons. Countries like Morroco are recieving large orders of US weopons, ATACMS and othe surprising things. but UA get 30 tanks and a a few stripped-down f-16s over 2 years t support a 900KM front.

The costs of aiding Ukraine now would be dwarfed by the additional defence spending required to keep a resurgent Russia in check. The problem with American, to put it mildly, 'caution' and prolonging the war in Ukraine is not only that it costs America more and more money, but also that Russia and China are clearly drawing America into new conflicts. It is absolutely clear that Hamas did not act alone without the support of Iran, Russia and China. Just as now Russia and China are preparing an outbreak in the Balkans, with Iraq and South Korea staying in the pipe.
All this, obviously, is done for the main ultimate goal - not to let America to prevent China from taking Taiwan, by interfering in elections or, failing that, by force.
In addition, in less than a year there will be an election in America. Biden should understand that after he has already given Ukraine $60 billion in aid, it will be very difficult for him to win the 2024 elections without a 100 percent victory for Ukraine. Americans love winners.

totally true. Unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that today's Russia is like Hitler's Germany. It is a fascist dictatorship waging wars and conducting genocides. The difference is, that Russia does this on a constant basis since Stalin's reach to power. The only dictator who was a bit more reasonable was Chrushchew - the guy hitting the speaker's desk with a shoe at the UN - and he was a Ukrainian.
