Khodorkovsky is absolutely right. It's personally frustrating to see that some European countries think that this war is about Ukraine. It is not. It's just the first stepping stone. The European status quo is over. Things will never be the same.
All European countries must realise that Ukraine is not just defending itself, but the rest of Europe too. Every country must support Ukraine as if the war is happening on their own territory, because it would be, were it not for Ukraine.

Most bullies do not know how to fight, and don't wish to fight. They prefer easy targets and intimidation to get what they want. When you stand up to a bully, and say fight them. You need only to hurt them, not win the fight. The fact you stood up to them and were able to hurt them is usually enough for them to find an easier target to prey upon.

Russia is a terrorist country. IT IS A FACT Such a country must and will be economically destroyed. The problem of Russia is not in Putin, but in its population, which in fact is a herd and cattle. If the herd is out of politics, then it should be silent and not moo, since everything that happens to them is political decisions in one form or another P.S. It was not Putin who started the war, but Russia, legally and with the support of the population of Russia, in fact Therefore, there is no need to look for good Russians, they do not exist.

I'd like to comment that a translator in this interview is doing an Excellent job. Maintaining this level of accuracy to convey exact words by Mr. Khodorkovsky by means of simultaneous interpretation is quite remarkable. Kudos to this gentleman and to all other professional interpreters out there!
Update: I've never gotten this many replies to my posts on CZcams. Some of you questioned if I know what I am talking about. I think I do: I speak both Russian and English languages, in addition to my native language that is different. Love of words and importance of proper speaking and writing was instilled in me by my grandfather who was a journalist, my parents and many of my relatives who are Philologists. I also have a degree in Simultaneous Interpretation although I have only practiced consecutive Interpretation and written translation because I was taught that working as a simultaneous interpreter requires physical and mental strength of an astronaut, and I never thought I could do that. My post was a tribute to all the professional interpreters who are doing such an important work especially during the times of war. A good interpreter has to have an excellent knowledge of both languages, idiomatic expressions, proverbs, etc, and has to follow the ethic of never intentionally distorting content of the spoken words. Basically, the interpreter has to be completely neutral and people who are being assisted may even forget the presence of an interpreter. Once again, I take my hat off to everyone who practices "love of words" in order to help with communications between people, hopefully for the benefit of all sentient beings.

And the translator was outstanding, clear, on-time and fast with his translations. A criminal in power is a bad, scary combination no matter how you slice it. One thing we can ascertain about Putin based from the descriptions of this interview, Putin embodies criminality and violence through and through. And this will be the case until his dying day, which is even scarier as this man said, he wants to leave a legacy. Well, I'd say he's done that already even though it is one of corruption and criminality in ruling Russia. But how thoroughly and utterly embarrassing it must be for him to end it like this, as a loser of a miscalculated war against the strong and beloved Ukrainians!

I don’t know a single Russian oligarch, who - even after years of living in USA or UK or EU - would master English at least at the level of a Turkish or Indian immigrant working as street vendor. It says a lot about the capacity of Russians to assimilate or naturalize outside of russkiy mir. I went to a Moscow school and I was bullied for speaking good English and German. Dude Putin literally came from the low-life proletarian Leningrad thug street gangs. They weren't like mafia, I'd say closer to English football hooligans. Matter of fact, that is even worse as an environment to get raised within for someone who'd later on join the KGB structure and become an autocrat. Because his judgements and overall life perception are all based on those bully-ish street 'gansta' life of Leningrad (St Petersburg). Imagine an East London Cockney wanker getting a PM post. That's the case with Russia. An absolutely intellectualy degraded in the political sense nation gets to choose a street bully with secret service skills and experience (utter nonsense IMO, being a secret service member shall unconditionally preclude ppl from running in any kind of election as a top priority legislative provision, it is a crime itself to let KGB guys into any civil state service offices).

One major difference between now and aggressors' previous incursions into other / neighboring countries is that we are in an information age- where nearly every person has a device that can record pictures and video. Actual events can be recorded and documented and possibly geotagged for historical record and authenticity. It's increasingly difficult to keep information from people (no matter how hard authoritarian governments might try). Another is that most countries are linked in multiple ways- but amongst them- economically, via trade, and intellectually- where companies / essential manufacturing cannot exist without international partnerships. Russia may have future conquest ambitions, but they will have to change everything about their country including the way its economy operates on every level since they are essentially blacklisted and disconnected from all of the systems that they came to depend upon in the last 20 to 30 years. I cannot imagine any regime that becomes socially, politically, and economically isolated in most ways over such a short period of time will be able to build back better- at least not in the near term. China might be the only enabler / lifeline that they have- and time will tell if they will go all-in to help Russia destroy European order, safety and stability. They will also suffer economic consequences if it is discovered that they do.
If kept isolated- it will be decades before Russia will be able to develop the industries and banking institutions in-house required to enable a country to independently (without open and free trade with the rest of the world) amass the manpower, expertise, and modern equipment to wage war against NATO,
and by that time Putin will be gone.

Two significant differences between the Baltic countries and Ukraine:
1.) The Baltic states are NATO members. Ukraine is not.
2.) NATO had already been reinforcing the Baltic states prior to the invasion of Ukraine, and has been accelerated as a result of the invasion.
Not to mention the practical aspect of Russian military capabilities; their ability to function on par with western militaries has been shown to be woefully inadequate, and the invasion of Ukraine has not only degraded their already-underprepared and equipped military even further. It will take years for the Russian military to recover and re-rquip to the point where they would consider invading the Baltic states.

What he said at the end was not quite correct. Putin is not at war with NATO or it's allies. Putin is at war with himself. He is a cluster b disordered creature. All cluster b's absolutely despise who the are. They can never be at peace with who they are. That is why they seek power and control to gain external supply to try and run away from their real self and run towards a false self. The war inside a cluster b can NEVER be won because it does not matter what power and control a cluster b achieves, they will always be pulled back to their real, weak, inadequate, self hating self. And that causes them total misery and emptiness.
