  • In this video I'll be giving a tutorial on how I paint the Szarekhan Dynasty Skorpekh Destroyers. They're great miniatures and tower over primaris and regular marines alike. Their Hyperphase Reap-Blades are a good way of setting the model off with a very simple technique too.

    I have been using your scheme for my new necrons that I got with my command edition starter set. I realize that this is a sci fi fantasy setting, but I love the realistic natural look of the way that you do necrons. Alot of painters that I see really do a good job with crazy colors, and I appreciate those, but they end up looking like an action figure out of a cartoon. Everything down to your bases make this collection of models look like they really exist somewhere and I love it.

    I used a small makeup brush, or any brush would work, to make a white to black drybrushed gradient over the black blade, then used the orange contrast paint for my Mephrit, it took 5 mins and looks much better than my layered attempt!

    • @BrushandBoltgun
      @BrushandBoltgun  Před 3 lety +1

      I was thinking of making a far quicker version of this - I did it in waaaaay less layers on illuminor Szeras. If you find a quicker and more effective way, use that! 🤣☺️ Thanks for watching shaunsprogress! :)

    • @BrushandBoltgun
      @BrushandBoltgun  Před 2 lety +1

      Cheers Rob, very much appreciated! :) Now there's a question, I was going to say Agrax Earthshade Gloss, but I think they've canned that too. You could go with Agrax Earthshade and maybe do a patchy second layer to get the lighter and darker patches. Once it's varnished at the end I think it might look very similar. Or a mix of Gor-Grunta Fur and Agrax? There will be a way. I'll have to have a play! :)

    • @SupersaiyanChristian
      @SupersaiyanChristian Před rokem

      @@BrushandBoltguni used the Agrax Earthshade on the Brass and it seems like it may worked, though it also seems to have dulled the metallic shine of the Runelord Brass just a touch. its noticeable when holding unshaded and shaded models side by side.
      i goofed up the technique a bit trying it. i didn't realize you had the dark shade of black and the lighter shade of white at the ends of the blades. i did the lighter shade of white more in the middle and darkening toward the black. do you usually use this EXACT method described or do you mix it up? if so, i suppose what i did won't look that bad. i'll definitely watch again for my next Destroyer.

  • @yourusual_stalkerNOTINTHATWAY

    Can you substitute the white for corax white or any other citadel white colour? Also, with cryptek armourshade gloss, could you use the normal one?

    • @BrushandBoltgun
      @BrushandBoltgun  Před rokem

      Hey, Your usual, thanks for watching.:) Yeah, any white paint should do it. The only difference a non-gloss shade would do would be a matt finish, so it shouldn't make too much difference. I spray them with matt varnish afterwards , so the pics at the end are all matt varnished. :)

    Just a question, though. I really like the Cryptek Armourshade shade but it's a bit too rich for me. Would it dull it slightly if I mix it with contrast medium or water? And if so, which would be the better option, medium or water?
