Win. Great tutorial. I’m trying many of these techniques for the first time, and though many channels go through the step by step, yours is the easiest to follow, remember, and apply. You’ve given me the confidence to go ahead with this model. Wish me luck!
Win. As someone returning to the hobby after a long, long, break and starting learning to paint almost from scratch, I could quite happily watch your videos all day. My son is urging me to paint some necrons for him!
Out of every painting tutorial I've looked at this is definitely one of my favourites - you do metals so well. I'd love to paint an army that looked like this!
Excellent paint guide. I've found on my sons Necrons that Balthasar gold has worked well for me as I didnt have Brass scorpion to hand. A wash of agrax earthshade and nuln oil in the deep recesses worked well highlighting back up with Runelord brass and Cynoptek alloy. This channel is so great as you use the citadel range predominantly. Keep up the hard work.
No worries mate! Keep up the awesome work! Just started Necrons after 15 years away from the game and although my colours are gonna be different, I’ll definitely be following these techniques!
Your paint applies so well. Do you have a particular water paint ratio? I'm sure it all depends but your paint seems so much better mixed than mine ever is.
How would you describe the new Tessereact Glow technical Paint? It looks to like a hybrid between Nurgle's Rot and Hexwraith Flame, I'm not fully on board with it, even though it surely seems to produce nice final effects.
I think you can get a similar effect by mixing flash gitz yellow and moot green and then thinning it down - it's good for doing the glow on weapons orbs etc, but I wouldn't use it for a big blade
I was wondering if you had anywhere people could go for help/advice with painting? I'd really love to learn the process you use to select your shades and highlights!
Hi Ethan - I offer some coaching via my Patreon - otherwise all my processes are outlined in the videos - if you have any specific questions though feel free to ask!
@@ThePaintingCoach I was considering painting the robes of my skitarii, Mechanicus standard grey and was wondering which paints you would use to highlight and shade them?
Sorry i missed that bit haha! It deoends on what kind of purple you want, but you can achieve something with a slaanesh grey base then blend up using magos purple and shyish purple - you'll need to be sparing with shyish though as it's very dark!
If i have only moot green, calliban green, warpstone glow, lahmian medium(to tin down like shades) , and tesseract glow, for green how do i do the blade?
Best thing qould be to base moot green, then thin the warpstone to contrast consistency with the lahmian, then do the same with the caliban once you are done with warpstone - the techniques in applying are the same 👍🏻
Im not agree about working from light to dark colors on the phase blade. Correcting mistakes is very hard by doing so ! Also doing all edges highlights on the blade is bad. Do like me, just highlight central edge and top edges (where the light is supposed to come). For blending colors for the Non Metallic Metal (or Non Energetic Metal :D), do straight blends instead of circulars ones. Because in your mind it won't picture as a sharp blade... Still it's a nice tutorial, also i like the fact that you uses Brass scorpion, makes the body warmer (something i was looking for, bones and shoulders in leadbelcher, the rest in an almost fleshy metal color : rune lord brass or Brass scorpion, i went somewhere else on Royal wards and made them in a dark gold).
Cheers! Good question - using the same techniques I'd probably start it as light as poss - maybe wild rider red, then use blood angels and flesh tearers as the contrast I'd highlight with an orange - either troll slayer or squig, depending on the look you want
Win. Great tutorial. I’m trying many of these techniques for the first time, and though many channels go through the step by step, yours is the easiest to follow, remember, and apply. You’ve given me the confidence to go ahead with this model. Wish me luck!
Thanks MrBaugher - that means a lot! Good luck!

Great model :-D Just wondering what do you use for a painting handle? Did you make that little thing the model sits on yourself or?
I normally use a Redgrass Games painting handle 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks man.
No problem!

What did you use for the first coat or the primer coat? My models didn't come that silver 😂
Haha! I used chaos black spray lightly then leadbelcher spray - hope that helps!
i'm just re-watching some of your videos before i tackle my next model. Have you tried the technical paint called "Hexwraith Flame"?
I have - i have used it on one or two models but can't remember which ones 🤣
@@ThePaintingCoach is it similar to warp lightning? i seen a side-by-side comparison but that's on a computer, everything looks different in person.
It's not too dissimilar in colour - although I think it is a bit more transparent than warp lighting

You can highlight with dawnstone and then administratum grey, shade with nuln oil or thinned black templar contrast paint 👍🏻

The Painting Coach oh no problem! Perfect channel for starting painting and collecting Necrons :D
Thank you!
how come on this one you didn't use runefang steel and wash the model with null oil after you applied the brass scorpion?
Just going for variation and a slightly different look - keeps it intetesting
