As exceptional as usual Juan. I've seen a few new Necron tutorials and yours is the best so far sir. Simple, effective and the final results have the punch I like to see on a miniature. Your approach captures the sinister Necron vibe but at the same time is vibrant and fun to capture. As a fellow TMM fan I love your approach to painting TMM and many of my own projects have been inspired by your tutorials. I know my Indomitus Necrons will be inspired by this video, so THANK YOU JUAN. You sir are a legend.

Nice easy to follow guide. I didn't have as many paints so painted silver, used contrast paints like black templar and snakebite leather and managed greens OK. Came out pretty good. Guessing medium is some kind of clear coat varnish. I used to use clear varnish with a darker ink shade to give shadows and it is really effective.

I’d just like to say a massive thank you for these guides. Whilst I cannot justify starting armies for every guide they have really highlighted how contrast paints can be used to achieve the best effect possible. I am learning a lot and like to think my own painting is improving as a result. I honestly think GW should be crediting you or commissioning you to produce guides for their ranges. Do you plan on exploring other miniature ranges? Or larger busts/scales? I recently received my Kickstarter for Gatefall and the ‘minis’ are considerably bigger than anything I have painted before and I am a little daunted/unsure how to begin working on them

Necrons usually paint a lot faster but they can still look great like what you did here. Just because they tend to be simpler and easier color schemes does not mean they cannot be painted with finesse and skill. The depth of shading and highlighting and then the signature glow just makes them look striking.

The lighting/exposure in the video is pretty high and kinda throws off how this recipe actually looks when you try it.* Once I hit that Fyreslayer flesh step, I was sold. Its pretty easy to control, or if you have to, block out one panel and fix pretty quick. The most important part... it's also consistent, especially important with an army like Necrons.
I haven't tried what selectively applied varnishes might look on the armor plates yet, but I am gonna.

Hey, Juan, do you happen to be able to suggest a NMM recipe to match the szarekhan dynasty copper tones? From what I could tell cryptek alloy is close to rakarth flesh, but I have no good idea how to go about the body copper-like metal here. Seen your copper tutorial and, while beautiful, I feel it doesn’t quite match. Thanks and have a lovely evening!

      Mmmm
Red glow is complicated, probably the hardest one to do. I would start from pure black and make the brightest tone a pure red, but it has to be a really intense and pure red pigment to work, something like Kimera The Red or a Heavy Body Acrylic Cadmium Red (that is toxic so be careful with it though)

Incredible work! Definitely using your tutorial for my shiny necrons.
As it's the first time i try glazing, is it mandatory to use the contrast medium? Would water do the same? What about the vallejo glaze medium (cheaper option)?
    Thanks!

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures

I highly recommend you use Contrast Medium for the mixes. Water completely mess up the chemistry of Contrast Paints and can lead to severe coffee staining.
As for Vallejo Glaze Medium, I personally don't like it so I don't know. You can test it and see, I personally prefer to not mix chemistries and use each paint with each own proprietary medium.

I saw a Reddit post where the user had talked with an actual 'Eavy Metal painter who did some of the Necrons and this is basically the paint process they used (and is wildly inefficient for actually painting an army):
    (Brass parts)
    -Base Runelord Brass,
-Shade with Cryptek Armourshade Gloss all over,
-Reikland Fleshshade and Drucii 1:1 mix in cracks,
-Lighter parts repainted with Runelord Brass

    -Base Canoptek Alloy
    -Glaze Runelord Brass
    -Shade dark areas with Reikland
-Shade Cracks with Reikland+Wyldwood 1:1 mix
-Optional Glaze with Stormhost if too dark
    (Black Metal Joints)
-Base Iron Warrior+Abaddon Black 1:1 mix
    -'Eavy Shade of Nuln Oil

    -Highlight just Stormhost

    -Highlight Iron Warrior+Stormhost 1:1
    -Highlight Stormhost
    (Green Orbs)
    -Base Corax
    -Layer Moot Green+Flashgits Yellow+White Scar 1:1:1 mix
    -Glaze moot
    -Deep Recess shade Caliban Green
    (Black on the guns)
    -Base Corvus black
    -Shade Nuln Oil
    -Highlight Incubi darkness
    -Highlight Eshin grey
    -Highlight Fenrisian+Eshin 1:1
    -Spot Fenrisian
    (Cables)
    -Base Moot+Waaagh! Flesh 1:1
    -Shade Caliban
    -Highlight Moot
    -Highlight Moot+Flashgits+White Scar 1:1:1
    -Spot White Scar
    (Dark Metal)
    -Base Iron Warriors
    -Shade Bascillicanum grey

(Gold if you're doing the Royal Warden)

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I think the most surprising thing to me is that they've actually painted the Box models with all citadel paints (as it was theorized the team would use a ton of non citadel paints)

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures

That's just false assumptions, the Eavy Metal exclusively uses Citadel Paints as it would only be logical as one of the objectives is to actually sell the paints as well as the models. All those rumors are just started by paint snobbists that like to think Citadel is so bad not even the official GW painting team likes to use them when it's very much the opposite, Citadel Paints are outstanding.

    • @Snavels
      @Snavels Pƙed 2 lety

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures My thoughts exactly, It wouldn't make sense for the in-house GW team to not use GW paints, especially since it's been proven by many others (and you in this very video!) That it can be done using only GW paints. (And with multiple methods to achieve the same result).
One I've seen people say is that they actually use Vallejo chrome for Silver/Gold highlights, even though Stormhost achieves the same effect (or the fact that the team mixes paints and shades to achieve colors/effects that aren't individually sold) Myself being somewhat new to the hobby, I initially believed it to be true, but after reading the post I shared here, I just figured that the team is *actually* just really really good with Citadel paints.

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures

Oh sometimes the DO mix colours, it's very common, in fact some of the new paints like Orruk Flesh are developed to COPY the mixes that the Eavy Metal team develop for their paintjobs (mix of Averland Sunset and Skarshnik Green in this case)
But yeah mixing is just part of normal painting so it's a given but not using in house paints it's idiotic.

Tesseract Glow is a slightly fluorescent paint, it's not like anything else in the line because it has Fluorescent pigments (although not as much as proper fluorescent paint)
You can get Vallejo Flou Green paint, that will work like a charm or any other hobby green fluorescent paint.
