I filmed this BEFORE the Saber Rail & GRS Bipod combo was developed (and you will see details about those products in other people's videos) but I will say that they work GREAT with this setup. The top-mounted bipod creates a very stable platform.
And to answer some other questions I anticipate will pop up: YES, the tensioner will be available for other barrel lengths, YES the 800mm barrel will be available for other calibers up to .35 and YES I will be using this setup for RMAC PRS, shooting slugs;)

Congratulations Matt and Hein, FX and Roelf on the slug development and testing aspects. Absolutely love the content Matt! Your content is the main reason I started getting into airguns and I love how you use them in real world hunts and situations but also have the educational side too, for someone like me who is brand new to the air gun world I really appreciate the explanations of how to do things and set things up, it really helps me understand everything and get a better idea on the ballistic and technical side of it too. Keep up the good work Matt!

Eventually, I will have an impact and I look forward to building it with the latest improvements/add ons. I'm new to air guns, I'm an archery and powder gun guy for what seems like for ever. Got into air guns because our son wanted to help grandpa with his pest control problem (chipmunks and now ground hogs). I got him a .177 cal barrel break that we love to shoot, but need to get him and his sister a smaller youth size gun for them. I'm looking a a couple different guns for them and a couple for myself (for me in .22 to .30 cal) to do some small game hunting this year. This video was very interesting to me; with powder rifles I prefer longer barrels typically, that there is so much you can do to improve your setup! Great video and impressed how much collaboration went into this 800mm barrel! Very nice to see that people still share ideas if for nothing else as their love of the sport!

Nevertheless, the point is: The collabos with different manufacturers had a big positive impact on Matt and this channel in general, but in my mind, he stray far from what this channel used to be.
There was a time when this channel wasn't as much commercialy, but content-driven.

Imagine if Blaser or CZ produced rifles that needed upgrades before you open the box they would be out of business.

Hi Matt, great videos! Hey I have a FX Impact M3 with 800 mm barrel .35. Which I just got in Dec 2022. I have made a few mods to it, I added the saber Backbone rail and the GRS over bore bi-pod. I am only using pellets right now. "Exact .35, 81.02gr" with factory tuning. 870 fps/30.3 ft lbs. My question is do pellets need a tensioned barrel or should I add that when I go to slugs? Also from what I have been reading it seems like I should be doing a little better velocity and power.....

From what I understand the power stuff is more for 600-800mm barrels? Where the more air doesn't really work with a 500mm barrel.... because you get more air time from adding a heavier hammer so the valve stays open longer so you can lower reg pressure and still get the air needed for +600mm barrels.?
    My MK 2 with a 35cal valve housing, 500mm barrel, reg 140, line 4, V2 port, 10gn at 1095fps, 16gn at 965fps.

For example, my gun was firing at 270 ms (885 FPS) regulated at a temperature of about 32 Cº (90 F), I had it stopped for about 1 month and I went to shoot and the gun was only 255 MS (826 FPS) ), but the temperature was around 15ºc (59F), I even changed some orings thinking it was a leak but it wasn't the case.

I'm shooting a W'cat3 bt. I have 500 & 700mm barrels and the tungsten weight. I can keep the same tune @150bar, for both. The 500 does not like slugs but I just use a lower power wheel and get sub moa at 75m for pellets. I put the 700 on and get sub moa @ 100m+ with 46gn slugs. not tested past this yet.

Are you sure the tensioner will work on a maverick? Have been considering a maverick but im not sure what aftermarket accessory’s work because most state “for impact” on the websites.

I can only imagine what your slugs will do the avenger long in the avenger o’clock .21 6.215 have been my best goes so far curious to see what happens if you are slow in the event here for me to work on either one. Will be very interested to see how they perform just how accurate they are sir.

A couple of folks have mentioned that simply making the barrel stiffer would obviate the need to go to the need for a barrel tensioner. Presumably it is because a stiffer barrel would have to be thicker and therefor heavier, or is it something else? Perhaps the nature of how the FX barrels are made prevents them from being thicker?

I would have thought the liner is the one that needs to be put into some form of tension. Wouldnt it be better to incorporate thread on the liner at breech and crown end to tension the liner.

Preferred to see the shroud screw right onto action or chassis. That way the barrel will not flex and stability not an issue when bang or lean the barrel against tree. Other airgun manufacturers already doing that by screwing the barrel right to the chassis.
