I’m not gonna lie that made me chuckle, I also think that they would of just removed Brooke entirely as a character. Can you imagine what they would of done to Frankys design, he would of been wearing SHORTS instead of Speedos.

Cheers mate! Yeah it's a lot of stop/starting and re-watching parts over and over, takes a good while to do but I still enjoy making these videos and 4Kids One Piece is a right laugh to watch as well.

The text removal was not 4kids fault per say, they requested blank animation cells so they could layer stuff onto it and edit the frames.
Those animation cells just lacked English text on objects since they were part of different layers.

I take it this dub must hold a record for having a lot of digital paint edits in dub adaptation history...
Nope that record would have to go their Yu-Gi-Oh! dubs, literally more than 1000 episodes full of digital paint edits compared to One Piece's 104. Yu-Gi-Oh! was unfortunately the one franchise that was unable to escape 4kids with them still dubbing the shows to this very day with the same edits and censorship.
@@satyamSaha Nope. ONE show here dude, this isn't lumping many at once just because it's part of a franchise so your comment is totally irrelevant. And the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise is handled better given the leniency made to the edits now and the shows actually being completed other than the DM series which was not the case when 4Kids had GX and 5D's.
@@devontehuntley6274 Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters still had 224 dubbed episodes so my point still stands. Also what Leniency? The edits to the newer shows are still bad and unnecessary. Just because they’re keeping in stuff like a car accident doesn’t mean everything is lenient now.

I don't even see your point, as Yu-Gi-Oh went through way less changes than One Piece did since it wasn't as violent and had a bunch of physical fights and weapons thrown in your face all the time, so you lose again here. You think because a show has more dubbed episodes it went through more edits? Um, not the case here dude. Just stop. The edits now are tame than they were. Regardless if they're still being edited, THEY'RE NOT AS BAD so take that into consideration you joke.

This series made me realize just how much 4kids used to change, its actually incredible that they probably spent a fuckton of money for changes no one wanted them to make, I wonder how much profit they even got from licencing those shows
Yeah I do give 4Kids credit, they must of had some decent digital painters/editors on staff. Some edits are better than others, but being able to paint Sanji out of a sequence that has a lot of moving parts (I'm sure the editors also weren't given a lot of time to make the changes during production) is impressive....it's just that there's no logical reason to make that change in the first place 😅
@@RantNavvTalksAnime Especially since if I'm right, he shouldn't be removed because in this arc, Mr. 2 never encountered Sanji until they fought each other, so having Sanji covered doesn't make sense since they don't know what he looks like, just everyone else in the crew.
IIRC He goes inside to start finding some food to cook and misses the Mr. 2 encounter so yes, he has no reason to be hidden.

Could you imagine Mr.3 in Impel Down and Marineford making all those bad jokes (figuring Four Kids somehow managed to get that far along).

4:58 I can't get used to "Trace". Imagine the Marinford saga surrounding Gol D Trace. What the actual hell.
The ONLY reason I could think of for them even censoring his name is due "aces" in a deck of cards and the fact that crocodile owns a casino and NO WE DON'T WANT TO TEACH KIDS HOW TO GAMBLE and just ace on its own being censored for a reason like is too far of a stretch. Just because you can play card games for money doesn't mean you should censor the word ace in a TV show that kids would be watching I am sure even in American or Western TV shows that were made in English have the word ace in there somewhere and I am NOT talking about shows meant for late teens and older like One Piece was meant for because this censor is nothing compared to like 80% of the stuff censored
EDIT I just remembered something I just remembered Ace's name was based on the term ace from a deck of cards because his pirate crew was the Spade pirates and BTW 4Kids did NOT know this as far as I am aware as from what I remember I think we first find out Ace's pirate crew name during the Summit War Saga which I think wasn't even in the Manga for like 4-5 years when 4Kids started dubbing One Piece

The Japanese words make sense, because 4KIDS doesn't want children to know that other countries exist other than America, but the English words? Why? I mean they always edit the word Marine with Navy, but they don't want children to read words in English? If that's the case why don't they just edit out all of the words, why bother adding in the word Navy if they don't want children to read

True. But it implies Crocodile would be ready to kill a man over continually making bad jokes, and that does track with him.
I'm just really interested to see how 4Kids changed the final battle scene underground between Luffy and Crocodile. Because if I'm not mistaken, Luffy uses his own blood in order to hit crocodile (because he had ran out of water to cover himself). Considering this is a very graphic scene, especially for children.
I believe he says its his sweat that causes it to hit him...

I prefer Flame-Flame, personally. Both Funimation and Viz have used it in both the anime and manga, and I just think it sounds better.

The text edits weren't their fault. Toei sent them the animation cells without text.

Well They would have a difficult time trying to Americanizing Katakuri and Yamato’s Devil fruits
They’d butcher or outright remove the scene of Sanji crying in the rain after Pudding’s betrayal. And no doubt they would have massively toned down Judge’s child abuse.
At least we didn’t have to wait a year this time XD

not really. makes him seem less of a threat then he should be cause, you know, he is literally Number 3 on the line up of strong agents. looking like an absolute coward and failing to do anything to stop them and going right to the boss to say otherwise was pretty stupid. again, it just makes Mr. 3 look like a joke and not the cringe ones he was spouting out.

They'd probably soil themselves if the Manji symbol tattoo Ace had on his back in the manga in Alabasta made it to the screen... his whole character would disappear without a "trace"

This is gonna sound weird but honestly these videos have helped me focus on something to get to sleep. It's a nice mix of informational (and anime) to where I'm not just listening to ocean waves or something and to where I may otherwise potentially be stuck with other thoughts?, but your voice is calm enough that I can fall asleep too. And any changes in volume between you and the clips aren't major (usually any I do notice are lower in the clips, but I'm being nitpicky).
Although I'm interested regardless of my sleeping habits. Take ya time, these are well worth the wait.

my thought is that since they took out the arc with the giants they thought it would be weird if sanji was walking around while they're all being careful, as to the reason chopper isint touched its because baroque works doesn't know him but idk thats my thought
yeah but... they still don't know who Sanji is. Bon Clay is the main reason now why Usopp is atleast targeted but technically since Little Garden was taken out, they don't even know about Usopp either since that's when Usopp was being overly protective since they see Mr. 3's ship, who knows about Usopp.

At this point I'm thinking what was happening is they were getting payed based on amount of footage changed, regardless of what they changed as long as they didn't remove entire scenes or episodes without reason. So they end up removing characters to add to the amount of changes

Do you have any plans to do videos on the initial Funimation dub that aired on Cartoon Network immediately after 4Kids lost the licence? Not all of the episodes are found, but a few old rips have been archived recently and I thought it may be interesting, though probably not as fun as watching the 4Kids dub because of them being nearly identical with smaller edits.
It would be interesting to see. That dub still had problems with punching.
Yea the only reason that was even made was because of a contract one piece was in with Cartoon Network which I guess carried over to funamtion then as soon as that finished they did the uncut dub

I was a One Piece fan from the start. Even when all I could get was the 4Kids garbage version, aired whenever they felt like it, I still really enjoyed it and wanted more. That said, it's still atrocious what 4kids did to it, and I realized that right from the start.
It's now February 2022, so when is that next video coming out? Can't believe five and a half months just went by to when this was uploaded.

I inspected 4kids version of Luffy vs Crocodile scene using @Rantnavv Talks Anime I noticed how typical of an edit they do by replacing blood to sweat also Crocodiles Sables Pesado was renamed to Sand Storm and Desert La Spada was renamed to Desert Slasher I noticed also how cut out the battle is
