Just thought that I'd let you know, the girl in this band was my subsitute choir teacher for a week while my teacher was out. She told us that she was in a Northern Colorado band hopping to make it someday. She played the piano for us and sang this song to us. I wanted to share this and how happy I am for her. (Ps. she should sing more songs, she has a wonderful voice)
Bands like the Lumineers aren't searching for fame, if anything they're looking for new songs, new lyrics, and above all, new buried love for the music. I think they've found that :)
No need to get mad, they dont need to top the charts to be noticed. Those who genuinely love good music will find and appreciate this kind of stuff. And I'm sure they are more than content to just be playing and making great music, rather than searching for fame and fortune.

Shallow answer. My thoughts are that they echo the nostalgic sound of the passion songs of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Also they just have a lot of pure musical understanding.
Their music reminds me of the 1920's. Not just because this song is called "Flapper Girl" but "Classy Girls" and "Ho Hey" remind me of the past somehow:) Huge fan.
Ho hey by the lumineers is in the top 20 on itunes (alternative) so they are definitely noticed. But i fell that part of the beauty of some bands is that I feel special that i know and listen to them.
Got my ex sis in law hooked on this group too now. A trip to see us old hard rock n rollers stompin around dancing like hilbillies & LOVEIN it. Lord what a breath of fresh air. Like she says, this groups music just makes you happy inside & smile. :)

These guys come from a small market, however the market was perhaps a direct corellation to why and who they are.

This band is amazing. I have been listening to this album religiously since it came out. It doesn't seem to get old.. They have such an amazing sound. Its folky but catchy. It's easy listening and also beautiful and meaningful. I love them and get excited when their songs get out there and more people discover them. They're truly amazing, and my favorite song to this day is stubborn love and will always be one of my favorites forever.

You said a lot right there. The key to really great music is having a passion for it. Some of the "top 40" artists really can't be passionate about the music they produce because, well, there is nothing passionate about it. Most of the music is created by a machine, and the parts that are human have been auto-tuned... That being said, I know there are contradictions to this such as Deadmau5 who is most certainly passionate about what he does.

The Lumineers are my probably my favorite band.. Plus I like that they're small, cause I don't see that every day. They're songs are some of the best that I've ever heard and anyone that goes against the Lumineers cause theyr'e not the most popular that's pretty stupid

To be fair, they just dropped their first album. They're already selling out tour dates in cities like Atlanta and Nashville. They'll get their due. Will it be the same degree of fanaticism achieved by Gaga? No, of course not. But they're getting a great following for such a fresh band. They deserve all the best, but it takes time and taste on the part of their listeners.
