  • This first video in a mini series about the intake manifold and cooling system on the SR20DET "Notch Top" from the Nissan S14 and S15.
    In this episode, we give a detailed run down of all the parts connected to the intake manifold, how they work, and where they are located. We also go over the basics of the cooling system on the car, and how all the hoses are routed.

    Thanks for this video, I sprung a leak on the oil filter turns out it's possibly the hoses under the intake manifold. At least I know which hoses I need to change.

    Great video really informative mate! Hopefully you can help me a little more, I recently bought an s14 and the previous owner capped 2 lines off that I believe were a part of the recirculation valve system! But I have no idea if they should be connected to anything now, one of the lines is the blow off valves line you referenced in your video which is currently capped. The other line next to it is connected to the carbon canister which I think has a split which also runs to the waste gate control solenoid valve. The other line that’s blocked off I am not sure where it’s coming from atm but it is larger? I currently have no blow off value but want to fit one to avoid turbo stall/flutter

    Thx big help! Been searching for a vacum leak forever, used a boost leak tester and couldn’t hear anything. Car makes -1 vac psi at idle, a little strange. Bolt ons. Any ideas on where to look for this big of a leak?

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      That must be quite the leak! Best to test individual components or portions of the system. Cap off pre throttle and test the intercooler system and pipes. Then move on to the smaller components. For that big a leak, I’d suspect a coupler has popped off the piping, the intercooler has damage, or there is damage to a pipe. Good luck with finding the issue.

    Hey great video. I have a question. I'm working on my notchtop sr20det and I had to take the fuel rail off to replace a bad injector. Now that I'm putting the fuel rail back on I noticed that when I bolt it down the rail tilts. I was wondering on your sr20det did your fuel rail have oem fuel rail spacers where the bolts go?

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      Hi there. Yes, there should be spacers. If you head over to Partsouq in the attached link, you should be able to see where the spacers are.

  • @user-sm3ew3pk1s

    Honestly ion paper it seems simple but coming from us market like n/a v8s this looks like so much clutter!! So many hose to hardline fittings, etc. Is there a kit that "declutters" or simplifies all the lines going everywhere?. I might be buying an s15 this summer. Sr20dets seem like such a mess to work on.

    Hi, subscribed as this is a great video. The pipe that goes on the end of the iacv hard-line, where does it go? Onto the intake pipe? Am trying to get my Sr up and running :)

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      Hi there. Sorry for the late response. CZcams flagged your comment as spam for some reason, so I only just saw it. That pipe feeds air from the intake system to the IACV. The piping in my car is quite modified, so I'm not completely sure where it would feed from on the stock system. Best bet is to check out a service manual, or if you can't find one, go to Partsouq.com and find the parts diagram. It should also show you where you need to feed the hose to. Thanks for watching!

    where did you get your stainless steel hardware for everything on outside? was it a kit or something?

      and where did you get your oil filter relocation kit looks good

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      I was lucky. When I bought the car, it already had the relocated oil filter. It is a "Tomei Oil Filter Block Relocator" on the block, and a "Greddy Oil Filter Relocation Kit" for the filter itself. If you search either of those, there are multiple websites that sell them. As for the stainless steel hardware, I usually keep a good supply on hand for my builds. I stock up on M6 and M8 bolts in various lengths.

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      A good trick for the lengths of the bolts is to look on partsouq.com at the diagrams for the vehicle. You will notice that often, when you hover over a bolt on the diagram, the part number that comes up will tell you what length and size the bolt is. Take the intake manifold diagram for a 97 Silvia with an SR20DET for example. One of the bolts called out is 08120-8201F. The 3 digits after the dash tells you the size. -820 is an M8, 20mm length. 08120-61228 is an M6, 12mm length. And 08121-0251F is an M10, 25mm length. I hope that all makes sense.

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety +1

      Without seeing the vehicle, it is a little difficult to diagnose, but I would recommend checking through all your wires and connectors. Check the MAF sensor and the cam sensor in particular. Also, would be worthwhile to check the fuel pump and make sure it is priming. If the fuel pump is working, move on to the ignition system and ensure there is spark. If you have fuel, and spark, move to the fuel filter. May be clogged up. Good luck with it!

    No disrespect but please get your info straight before making a video. The blacktop is not only specific to the s14/15. There is a black top s13 sr as well “kouki 180.” S14/15 “notch top” has vtc unlike the s13.

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there. Appreciate the feedback, and no disrespect taken. I could have made it more clear by using "notch top" for the description, for sure. I did however try to distinguish in that the title of the video specifically calls out S14 and S15. Yes, the S13 had a black top too. But I'd hope that the obvious VCT system, as well as the low ports, would make it clear as to which version I am working on. I also know that this is a hotly debated topic on the forums, and it seems everyone likes to have a go at dissecting it. I'd be happy to amend the description for the video to clear up any confusion. Thanks for watching!
