To things i would like to share are first disconnect the negative on the battery, and use a high watt soldering iron (30+)and heat shrink on your connections. But other than that well done, also i learned something! TY for your time and the vid. CBS [Trade Master]

for anyone following along here i have a few recommendations.
    1. try to cut off any unused wires back at the brain, less wires to pull up and makes a smaller wire loom you need to pull from A to B. dont pull the wires out tho and dont cut them too short, leave them long enough you can grab them if you ever need to in the future. you can also double them back on them selves to make a service loop and tape it up so no wires are able to touch each other (the ends)
    2. dont tape your wire runs all the way up. it makes it a pain in the ass to peel the tape off, tear shit open again when you need to get back in and service. just use a few pieces of tape every few inches to hold bundles together. follow factory wiring when you can and it will still look clean. (if its a security system then sure, go balls out and hide that shit)
    3. poke and wrap in this video is intended to be a temporary connection. poke/wrap/solder is better to longevity and proper electrical connection. you must solder correctly however, too much and you will have weak and brittle spots, too little or too little heat and you will have a cold joint. too hot and you can actually burn up wires and have to cut sections out and repair. crimping is also acceptable so long as it is done properly, it can be just as strong as a proper solder job so long as enough pressure is given to cold weld the wires together. a crimp has no ridged areas so it cant get stress fractures like solder can.
    4. while its easy to find wires AT the plug the wires all go back to a computer somewhere or at least pass by another area in the dash. you can often find better locations than in the steering shroud to tag your wires and have a shorter run, cleaner looking install, less bulk inside tight panels, and better serviceability (in some cases) by tracing the wires back to a better, more central location.

It is very practical to solder the wire for many reasons! Also don’t splice into the wire so close to the plug, I would have gone further down the harness. Overall good video for newbies. I really cant stress enough though that if you don’t have much experience with auto electronics to not try and install a remote start on the vehicle!!

    • @PrecisionConnections
      @PrecisionConnections  Před 6 lety +4

Frank Honeycutt. I'll do a video covering why soldering connections are not recommended in the INDUSTRY by Both automotive manufactures and security company. Ask yourself this: why wouldn't they include this method of wiring in modern installation manuals if it was the overall best way to install their products? And also why Can't you find any soldered connections in new cars going back 60 years?

@@PrecisionConnectionsof course you don’t have to solder in new modern vehicles because they are not adding splicing into the harness. Everything is planned out. Soldering is best way to splice into wiring . Mechanical connections fail.

Good informational video. I disagree with the wiring. A few things are shoddy and give a lot of shops a name. I'm a fan of fast turnout as I do custom electrical work for people but I've never in my whole life twisted two wires together and taped them for a permanent connection. I prefer solder but butt splices work great if you use them correctly, and they will always hold better than tape.

I have an 1979 Datsun Sunny which is pretty old car and I'm already using a simple Chinese door unlock/locking system which is quiet unsafe. The doors and the trunk have the actuators installed. Other than that, everything else is pretty simple and needs to be configured manually since I can't find any cables like in new cars. What I would like to know is can the 5806V be installed on my car with all the features working?

    Precision connection
Do you have a video of the wiring of the immobilizer that you used in this video? I can not seem to find one to help me with my "DIY Installation".

    I've seen much worse installs.
However, this will void your factory warranty if it still has one.
    A cool video Sir!

Josh Redman By law, any functioning aftermarket system, including a security or remote start system, will not void a vehicle's warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act(P.L. 93-637) is a United States federal law (15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq.). Enacted in 1975, the federal statute governs warranties on consumer products. The law was created to fix problems as a result of manufacturers using disclaimers on warranties in an unfair or misleading manner. Its the federal law Sir. Thanks for your comment you brought up a good subject and future video topic for this channel.

      haha!
      OK there... Sir
Excellent copy and paste skills BTW
this "law" doesn't encapsulate every and all aftermarket installs. But an install like this will surely VOID the warranty. Assuming there are any warranty issues involving the electrical system.
Go ahead and argue, I'm sure you will. But you know its true.

Josh Redman You sound like a competing installation shop owner. What's the name of your shop? Maybe we could do business instead of sharping swords?

No sir. Just a normal dude that's worked in the automotive industry as an installer for 20 years.
People need to know this type of work needs to left to professional such as yourself. You own a business and do this for a living. You have experience.
Most of these people watching don't even know what a multi-meter is, much less know how to use one.
I'm sure you only think I'm trolling your video. But in reality all I want is for these people watching to be informed. You should want the same for your viewers.
I will admit that I was not entirely accurate when I said that it WILL void the warranty. Instead i should have used the word CAN.
If someone buy's a new car, hacks into the wiring harness themselves, having never done this type of work before, uses the techniques shown in this video, then a few months later one the vehicles computers goes tits up... even if the install had nothing to do with the computer going bad. That vehicles manufacturer has every right to reject that repair. It doesn't mean they WILL, but they sure as hell CAN. It's in the small print somewhere in that warranty.
The company I work for just purchased a 2018 Ford Transit. This is the first brand new vehicle the company has ever purchased. This van will need to be outfitted to be a mobile repair shop complete with air compressor, vacuum, high-output power inverter, cables and outlets ... etc.
Now, every other van in the past we have done all the work ourselves. We have the knowledge and ability.
HOWEVER... the warranty states that the work must be done at a certified shop in order to retain the factory warranty. We are an auto glass shop, so we do not fall anywhere near the category of Automotive Electrical.
I hope you see what I'm trying to do here. Not trying to sharping swords (whatever that means). Just keep people informed.
Keep up the cool videos brother! I'm subbed now!

Will this same diagram work with a 2007 civic?

Can i get a little assistance? I got everything wired up after a rigorous wire diagram search for the V5900( old installed system), the 5806V (new system)and my 1996 Acura Integra. I believe the unit is powered on indicated by the red light on the shock sensor blinking, but the Antenna/Control is not responding. I get no chirp when the ignition is turned to On position and the button is pushed once, let go and held in order to sync the remotes. The system does not seem to be responding to the Antenna. What might be the cause of this issue? Everything is wired up as it should be as a majority of the wires are not utilized for my vehicle. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know.
