      I agree, but it's ME...so don't blame the plane - LOL ;) This thing in the right place would be "easy" to fly...but she looks more out of control that she feels. The landings and takeoffs were NOT great on either flight, but I was over WAY analyzing trying to get the afterburner in frame!!!

    Did you say “Ramming it through for maximum penetration!” ????😂😂😂😂 that had me cracking up!! Glad the burner worked out how you wanted too!! With the Gooniac Firey Booty Afterburner and the RC Geek Nozzles the plane has the set up to have!! No restriction and the extra pep from the nozzles!!! Also no crow.... dont use it!!! Your landings will get better without!! Glad to see that the gear is super strong on this bird!!

  • @WickedMoto
    @WickedMoto Před 2 lety +2

    i personally love delta wings, i have turbine versions as well as edf versions. thing with them is you need to get the nose up in the air, about 14AOA and modulate the trottle but it needs power until a foot above the run way...this is how i land my freewing gripen. i get it into high alpha on final and hold about 15-23% throttle and she comes in stable and smooth. this helps to touch down like a butterfly with sore feet. yours looks like it could use either a 5-10% reduction in throws or similar amount added in expo and i feel thatll smooth her out for ya. this is one model id love to have one day to add to my dorito fleet.

    I'm a major rookie but I think that plane is really throttle based, it looks like you really got to be on the throttle johnny on the spot. Great Video!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      yes, it is a throttle sensitive plane, as it typical of EDF jets. There's a bit of a LAG when you give throttle and expect thrust, so when you're about to touch down, you almost want to be giving thrust right before touchdown...like when you ENTER ground effect, then you kinda give one last "blow" and she'll decent a bit less slow as she'd otherwise slam down...the challenge becomes - you need to slow down (Moving Forward) JUST as much as you need to add thrust to slow down (Rate of Descent)... It's a slight removal from typical RC landing approach...line up, keep level, set AOA (pitch) and keep pointed as you control RATE OF DESCENT with THROTTLE ONLY....then you can kinda repeat until you have a nice touchdown. With an EDF, it's all about pitch control in a glide with a little PUFF at the end to soften or correct for your lack of perfection on AOA or CG preventing getting the nose up in that descent, at that airspeed. It's a real tough challenge, especially when you're hemmed in by a relatively high treeline on both ends of the runway ;)

    Also some info on the burner. It works on 3s voltage only. No more no less. Also note... the burner does not draw enough power to even be noticed on a balance tester!! It will not consume anymore than about .002-.004 out of the first 3 cells which wont even show on your checker. It doesnt matter how long or hard you fly the plane. LEDs barely draw much and the way I have it configured will not hurt balance or be hard on your packs. In fact if you charge a lil 3s 500 mah pack you can use that for 3-5 full days of flying before they need to charging! I thought this stuff out and did in ways that were simple yet effective!

    Brian, if the wheels are still on the damn plane when it finally comes to a stop, it's a good day. I think you did pretty good considering you didn't have much room to work with. I apologise, this is completely off topic but I wanted to make a suggestion for your next model to review. Im flying a ZOHD Dart250G from Banggood and its awesome. I know FPV isnt really your thing and it is an FPV capable model, but I fly the model line of sight, being of the same opinion regarding FPV. I fly it on a 3S 900mah and it flies at about 70 to 80mph. I have to turn the rates right the way down to 30% on the roll axis and 20% on the elevator axis with a high expo. This is because its maneuverability is off the hook. The reason for the suggestion is because its a cheap, well built model that is extremely durable and is sub 250g. With all the silly rules regarding the FAA or CAA in my country its a good option. I have added navigation lights to it too using your videos regarding adding LEDs for which I thank you. Keep up the great work

    I would stripe the bottom of both wings like a mustang, atleast a couple black and white stripes under each wing should do the trick. Its like night and day if your having issues with orientation. A good friend of mine had a really cool looking large scratch built wing plane that was solid black top and bottom. Hardest plane ive ever flown for orientation. Another thing that helps is to constantly tip the wings back and forth, especially with jets, it keeps your head in the cockpit. good flying there b-man!

    Bryan you need to lift the nose as much if you can during landing and give more elevator angle or rate if need it and in the same time at least 3 clicks of throutle during landing never kill the throttle and then gunned. then you will grease it. Even do you landing strip is very difficult to nail, you been doing a great job landing planes there.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety +1

      It's definitely still not free...and we don't know where we want our building yet...so we don't want to drop another $15,000 for runway that's in the glide slope...
      I was thinking of putting in another THIN runway up top, or maybe a tarp strip, but we do produce hay off the land, so we have to find the balance between a longer runway, and hay production.
      As for the equipment, I have a tractor, but I wouldn't pretend to be some expert at dirt work, or concrete work...but I have family that used to run a concrete business, so we have access to help, if we were to do it ourselves...but it's still not going to be free.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 3 lety

      At first I was with you Duvall, but then I saw it in person, and it is FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!! They've got a real plane with a super similar livery in one of the foreign air forces, so I give them a pass on the garishness, but I agree...
      ONE serious complaint though....DARK BLUE bottom - NO...WHY?!??! Do something we can see from the ground better. Dark Blue is tough to see. Yellow is almost always easy to see. High contrast from top to bottom is GREAT, but the DARK BLUE about cost me the plane on my second landing...even with bright LED's. It was a bit closer than I was letting on. She was really disappearing on me, but we HAD to film at twilight to see the burner as good as it could be seen...well to be fair, it will show up in the daylight, but it's a whole lot less impressive ;) And what's with FLASHING NAV LIGHTS?!?! I hate that. I only want a flashing anti-crash beacon...otherwise, I want it ON, and ON, and STILL ON - or a means by which to KEEP it on - this too about lost the plane for me.
      ...but as you already know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think she is quite nice ;)

    Landing approach on the video was difficult to see, I lost it, then suddenly it arrived but a bit quick. Not easy to slow down. video light level not always same as reality. I must admit when sun gets to a low angle I bail out as depth perception on approach becomes too uncomfortable and if I am not comfortable I am not flying as I will either drop short and hit the trees surrounding our field or approach too long and keep on going round and round which with edf is not going to end well. Also no wind so no resistance in restricted flying zone. No doubt after a dozen flights you will find the sweet spots for the Rafale so keep flying.
