  • In this video I go over, what I have found to be, a pretty common occurrence on the 2017-2018 Ford F-150. This somewhat of a common occurrence is a crack in the driver side valve cover toward the front close to the intake manifold. It seems that this is a weak spot on the intake manifold. This crack does not seem to be occurring because of rough handling. As mentioned in the video, I had two separate F-150s with this issue that have never been worked on. In this video I also describe a "temporary fix" for this issue.
    Warning! I make not guarantee that if you perform the "temporary fix" described in this video that it will not leak oil. If you choose to perform a similar repair do so at your own risk. Oil leaks can be a fire hazard.
    The temporary fixed shown in the video is just that, a temporary fix. The intention is to replace the valve cover just as soon as it comes off of back order through Ford.
    As noted, other sources may have this valve cover available.

    Getting parts doesn't seem to be a problem now. Just replaced another one the other day.....Didn't have to wait for it.

    I was so confused why oil was leaking there. Assumed maybe pcv related. Thanks for saving me some time!

    2019 cracks also.
    Somewhat relieved that its not an isolated item on my truck.

    Had the same leak on my 2018 ecoboost 3.5 been looking for a metal cover, no luck. This engine needs an upgrade for this part.

    Yup! My 2017 has the EXACT same crack, in the same location! Ford should do a recall. It’s a fire hazard.

    I’ve been without my FORD truck for over two weeks waiting on the part to come off back order status. No luck so far. I heard from the mechanic that FORD is redesigning the PLASTIC valve cover, and they have no idea when it will be available. PLASTIC? Does anyone out there know when FORD will have the part available? My truck is sitting there unable to be driven. Thanks much in advance.

    I have a 2017 as well. Fighting misfires for over a year. Replaced plugs and coils to no avail. I noticed my gasket cover is leaking oil but on the passenger side and out of where the 2 plugs attach from the top. The leaking is minimal but enough to stain the whole plastic cover. I had the gaskets replaced and it didn’t fix the misfires. Has anyone ever seen a leak from the passenger side and from the top?

    I was able to buy a valve cover from Ford yesterday so they are available again. As of mid December 2023.

      Lucky! Mine is third in line at my local dealership and has been sitting down there for 2 months... Bringing it home today to try to bandaid it until they get the part back...

      My FORD f150 Limited is sitting at the shop. It’s been over 2 weeks and they can’t find the PLASTIC valve cover. PLASTIC. FORD can’t tell them when it will be available I’m told.

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  Před 9 měsíci

      @justinlangston8787 Being someone that has experience with all kinds of welds for over two decades, I would say RTV is a better temporary fix. Neither should be viewed as a permanent fix.

      JB weld held up on my 17s crack for 13 months, it's just now seeping again. Nov of 22 the driver side valve was on backorder with no ETA.

    • @adultishraktajino2808
      @adultishraktajino2808 Před 5 měsíci

      I assume you know JB Weld is an epoxy, not a true weld. I've patched a leaking aluminum carb bowl and AC Evap coil leak with it. Plus countless other things. As with RTV, surface prep is key. Just noticed a leak toward the firewall on my '18s driver side and found this vid. Will give this a shot if I can find a crack. @@BarboursAutoHelp
