- This is the theme music to the 1980 NBC and the 1986-1991 USA Cable Network versions of the game show "Chain Reaction", composed by Bob Cobert. This music is titled "Thru Train" and was originally written as background music for the 1979 NBC show "Supertrain".

I can hardly believe im as old as Chain Reaction is. Came out in 1980 which makes me 40. I used to watch it on USA Network when as a kid
No, the '85 Jackpot theme was originally the theme to Shoot For The Stars and it's pilot, Shoot The Works. On both of those shows the music was slowed down slightly.
The Game is... THE NEW CHAIN REACTION!
And Here's your Host, GEOFF EDWARDS!
I agree, the pitch is slightly lower, and the speed is slightly slower, however this track is exactly how it sounds on the CD "Bob Cobert A Different View".
Wow, the audio quality of this slightly slower and lower pitch version is so crisp and clean. One listening can feel all the instruments being played. USA Network purchasing up the 1980 Bill Cullen Season from NBC helped give this honest quality program a well deserved second chance and exposure to an audience whom viewed this repeated 1980 rebroadcast on USA Network afternoons M-F at 4pm eastern, Sept 1985- may 1986.
You sir, today, are a god. Been waiting to hear the full theme for a looooong time. Thanks so much!
Get the CD " Bob Cobert A Different View " and listen to this song, and you will hear that the version on the GSN CD is the sped up version that was used on Chain Reaction. Also speaking of Bob Cobert music, when the Shoot For The Stars theme became the Jackpot '85 theme it was sped up slightly also.
Happy 40 to the Game Show Where One Word Leads to Another
Chain Reaction
God Bless Everyone that made the show, God Bless NBC for airing Chain Reaction and GO and R.I.P. to Uncle Bill, Geoff Edwards and Series Creator Bob Stewart and Thank You Mr. Stewart for also giving us the spin-off called GO
and BTW, Uncle Bill's Version was shown in reruns on Pat Robertson's CBN (now abc family), USA Network (the home to RAW & Law & Order: SVU) and GSN (The NEW GSN SUCKS)
GO was seen in reruns on CBN & GSN
This show was out when shows like One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Archie Bunker's Place, Sanford, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, SOAP, Benson, Superfriends, Hart to Hart, Fantasy Island, Vega$, The Love Boat, The Waltons, Dallas, Knots Landing, M*A*S*H, Trapper John, M.D., Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Angie, WKRP in Cincnnati, Three's Company, The NEW Tic Tac Dough w/Wink Martindale and The Joker's Wild w/the late Jack Barry

Geoff Edwards hosted Play the Percentages when he subbed for Uncle Bill on the NBC Version and Charlie's Angels was back for a 4th Season w/Shelley Hack replacing Kate Jackson and the show was still in the Nielsen Ratings Top 20 and Hanna-Barbera gave us 2 Parodies of Charlie's Angels in Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels and Casper and the Angels and The Original Hawaii Five-O with the late Jack Lord was in its 12th and Final Season before returning to CBS 30 years later
I like the 80's Versions better than the Dylan Lane Version on GSN
Pilot shuffle board cue from Jim Perry's 1982 game show "Twisters".
" Through Train", musically saying this,...
Bill Cullen's Wardrobe Furnished By AUGUSTUS one of NBC's Favorite Wardrobes
Same wardrobe worn by the likes of John Barbour, Byron Allen, Skip Stephenson, Mark Russell, Peter Billingsley, Fred Willard, Bill Rafferty, Chuck Woolery, Joe Garagiola, Fred Roggin, Sarah Purcell, Summer Bartholomew and of course, Pat Sajak
Chain reaction theme 1980s
The first 8 to 10 seconds of the intro were actually used during Cullen's version as a cue when the board would open up to reveal the first chain of a brand new game, except that it was in the key of C.
Also, the Bob Stewart pilot Twisters used the same amount of the intro when a contestant would slide the disc across the shuffleboard (again, it was about 8-10 secs. and in C).
I agree that the speed and pitch of this track is slower that it was on "Chain Reaction", however this is exactly how it sounds on the Bob Cobert CD, "Bob Cobert A Different View".
Just how SMOOTH are the passages between 0:00 - 0:15, and especially 0:51 - 0:58!!! 😍😍😍 I rate this song "WHAT!" out of 10!! 🕺🕺🕺
Got it on e-Bay several months ago.
If someone used this disco melody as a break, they can make a great house cut. This track itself is a cut!!!!
It's cool.
Yes, you are right. However I think the cues that you mentioned might be snippets of the main theme about 3/4 of the way in.
Why does it sound like the batteries are running low? The pitch is lower than usual and the tempo as well.
"Thru Train"!
By Bob Cobert.
It doesn't matter if it's a "game show" piece of music. Supertrain's misfortunes don't matter. I can't say a word against The Train or The Chain, because they've been where I'm trying to be (TV). Unless you're a few years older than I think you are (I'm 38), and you've got worked with either show, you have nothing to offer me about music. When you describe in detail how they "pitched up near 10+" (whatever that means) you've used up all 7 letters, and fallen under the train. Have a good day.
My guess is that this is the original, and the one used to CR is sped up to match the pace of a game show.
I may be wrong, but wasn't "Twisters" with Jim Perry the original use of Jackpot '85's theme?
lmao!!!!
I like the "slower" (this version) version of this song better. The chain reaction song is good enough it could work at any tone
No, it's in the key of B, and in this Bb (B FLAT) presentation, the pitch is off, the tempo is slow, and it's just absolutely wrong. I've heard this same "effect" (read: mistake) in NUMEROUS pieces of game show music.
No it isn't. this is in Bb, and it's in the key of B in real life. This recording is either wrong or too slow = wrong.
Yeah, I removed it. Sorry.
This has to be the original speed of the song... the one on the show sounds sped up!
Curtis Mitchell it is. I like both versions.
You forgot That's the Question, Cram, and, of course, Lingo. A couple of 'em started before that unnecessary network revamp, but in the end what really killed most GSN originals (including those that actually showed promise) was too many dumb contestants.
Besides, as good as Catch 21 is, all I've seen lately are players monopolizing the game. Not much to see there.
Is there any particular reason why this Game Show has to be pitted as "The Battle of the Sexes"? Give me one reason why is the case!
Jiltedin2007 because there's three guys and three girls playing
The gimmick exists.
That’s the only reason.
I’ll be here all week.
@beckigreen arrrrrgh, yer Momma.
Me, I prefer the 2001 Odyssey.
Check into things with this search...
Chain Reaction" Pilot Episode, NBC
...and that's all you need to know or hear.
It just so happens that I possess something you obviously don't have. It's called Perfect Pitch. At the risk of being redundant, the correct key is B, not B FLAT. This presentation of the song is incorrect.
It's America, you're free to believe whatever you want, but I'm not going to argue with someone with an inferior musical ear
Good night.
Man, the whole dern 2006 show was inferior to the real show, music and all. Even though some people don't know how the music should sound...
NOT THIS AGAIN...
So, Twisters didn't exist. Me and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) were pretending that She was on GAME SHOW NETWORK years ago, showing non-aired pilots on Halloween.
I beg your pardon, and promise to not act like I know what I'm talking about. Have a good day.
Folks, this is what it is... This may have been on Supertrain, but it needs to be understood that this is about CHAIN @#$%&*! REACTION. This may be the original theme song, but this presentation, as I stated before, is NOT that which we saw with Bill Cullen, Geoff Edwards, or even that Blake Emmons (or whatever he called himself). Dylan Lane can't hold a candle to any of them (not even Blake what's his face), Lane's show was a farce, and that's that for that.
Have a good day.
Blake Emmonds
The only problem with Dylan Lane's Version was that some of the contestants were not very bright, they were either dumb or acted like they didn't wanna be there, IMO
I believe, Son, that even though this discussion was held in 2009- TWO THOUSAND NINE- that it was already settled- since they were both wrong, YOU are wrong.
It would do you well to join in on arguments that are not only are in present time, but of subjects that you know anything about. If you are the stronger link, then it's no wonder this chain was so off-tune, slow, and basically WRONG.
Goodbye.
If this doesnt sound like music from a Ron Jeremy flick, then I dont know what does!
YES!!! That's awesome! Totally porn music! LOL Just picture 70's style porn while listening, HILARIOUS!!
