England 1-2 West Germany (1982)

  • Just over three months after meeting at the World Cup finals in Spain, England and West Germany clash again in a friendly at Wembley in October 1982. Bobby Robson's first home match in charge ends in defeat, as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scores twice before Tony Woodcock nets a late consolation. England field a largely experimental line-up, with players such as David Armstrong, Cyrille Regis and Ricky Hill winning rare caps, while young debutant Gary Mabbutt twice comes close to scoring.

      Yes, but the very same team was the ultimate disgrace to the German people in the history of football, please try not to forget that, yes our English team plays fair and square that doesn't apply to this particular German team. The 1982 team was an absolute disgrace.

      But the German team was still a lot more technically gifted than ours. Wilkins possibly the only one of these players who would've fitted in with this German team. Lovely touches from Littbarski, who was so good, he'd actually played for the Under-21s in Germany the night before! These days English players like Sterling moan that they are too tired! Littbarski didn't care about tiredness, he just wanted to play for his country at any level he could, even in a friendly.

    • @MrDekkert
      @MrDekkert Před 9 lety +3

      A part of the problem of your players is that they play too much. English players seem always to be less fresh than their counterparts. If in the Bundesliga we play 2 games in a week, we call it "english weeks".

      @SaapuvaKomeetta Před 7 lety +3

      Too many games is England's excuse for every failure since the 60s. Nobody is taking this nonsense any serious anymore. And even if it were true, not changing it then doesn't really speak for any professionalism within English football.

    • @MrDekkert
      @MrDekkert Před 7 lety +2

      The game against Iceland is a proof of the inability of the English team to improve
      in difficult situations, as the German team can.
      Only with fatigue can it be explained that the English always reproduce the same ineffective patterns.
      This is not the result of a lack of professionalism, but of the egoism of
      the clubs, which successfully push their interests against the national.
