England 1-2 West Germany (1982)

- Just over three months after meeting at the World Cup finals in Spain, England and West Germany clash again in a friendly at Wembley in October 1982. Bobby Robson's first home match in charge ends in defeat, as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scores twice before Tony Woodcock nets a late consolation. England field a largely experimental line-up, with players such as David Armstrong, Cyrille Regis and Ricky Hill winning rare caps, while young debutant Gary Mabbutt twice comes close to scoring.

Rummenigge was so bloody great.
Both team are genuinely playing with high intensity in a friendly. No drama, no diving etc. Must have been a great game to watch.
Yes, but the very same team was the ultimate disgrace to the German people in the history of football, please try not to forget that, yes our English team plays fair and square that doesn't apply to this particular German team. The 1982 team was an absolute disgrace.
REMEMER THE ARROGANT KRAUTS AT ESPAÑA 82 SAYING THEY WOULD CRUSH ALGERIA 10 - 0 , THE FUSGRACE OF GIJON , NOT FORGETTING OF COURSE THE FOUL OF THE CENTURY BU SCHUMAKER ON BATTISTON ALTHOUGH HE DID OFFER TO PAY THE DENTIST BILL
Rummenigge.and Litbasaki I miss you.
Kevin Keegan and Tony Woodcock. 2 of the most loved english footballers in Germany, as they both played in the Bundesliga for Hamburg and cologne respectively. :P
Football was football back in the days. Today its just an industrial product with overpayed players that noone really loves.
Good day. Thank you so much for the video. Bravo! Enjoyed and liked of course. Greetings from your subscriber. Country Azerbaijan
Ruminigge was my childhood hero!
Mine too. I remember this game well. It was the last cap that he decided on his own for Germany.
Mine as well! He could do it all!!
@@bwbethel Couldn't agree with you more. Only injuries stopped him from winning world cup
Likewise
Karl-Heinz Rumenigge was the initial reason I support Bayern München and the German national team.Of course I've admired all the other virtues of the Germans (in football 😄)all these years on.
the 80s begining Germany have a strong Team Good old Time
Victories above England are especially sweet
How I love you Germany
Rummenigge era craque !
Shiltons peak was 82. A truely great keeper from 73 on but kept on going for another 8 years and cost England in 86 and 90 with the objective view of hindsight.
Agree
@@xiropigado NOT AGREE AT ALL
100% agreed
Shilton got England through to the semi final in 1990 against Cameroon.
Shilton a manufactured gk Ray Clemence far better
it was game between 2 best goalkeepers in that time
You mean the one that hacked down Battiston?
Yes. Plus Dasayev and Jennings
Dino Zoff/Rinat Dasseyev?
@@Dexter101x Hacked down? It was a hip to the skull GBH.
Clemence and Shilton
One of my favorite Germany kits!
Not as cool as Wembley 72 or Mexico 70 , Adorable .
Matheus skills 1:22
That's a great move.
Rummenigge was the best
I thought England had a good team in 82...
Especially when the beat the French 3-1 in the World Cup
Germany always is a best
It is interesting that Sir Bobby Robson managed to keep his job despite England failing to qualify for Euro 84.
Good ole Ricky Hill... Worthy to be selected more!
And without Bernd Schuster!
What a talented midfield of Armstrong, Devonshire, Hill & Wilkins.
Wspaniały mecz piłki nożnej klasyk el.clasico Europy i Swiata ten mecz więcej innych Anglia -RFN 1982 rok gratulacje!
thanks🤗
Regis should of been picked a lot more for England
REGIS A GREAT WANKER
Rummenige silenced the English crown in Wembley.
The Germans were better.
I saw an english team which was much better than the team today. They combined and had many chances in difference to their laborious play nowadays. The german were equal good, so a draw was just.
But the German team was still a lot more technically gifted than ours. Wilkins possibly the only one of these players who would've fitted in with this German team. Lovely touches from Littbarski, who was so good, he'd actually played for the Under-21s in Germany the night before! These days English players like Sterling moan that they are too tired! Littbarski didn't care about tiredness, he just wanted to play for his country at any level he could, even in a friendly.
A part of the problem of your players is that they play too much. English players seem always to be less fresh than their counterparts. If in the Bundesliga we play 2 games in a week, we call it "english weeks".
Too many games is England's excuse for every failure since the 60s. Nobody is taking this nonsense any serious anymore. And even if it were true, not changing it then doesn't really speak for any professionalism within English football.
The game against Iceland is a proof of the inability of the English team to improve
in difficult situations, as the German team can.
Only with fatigue can it be explained that the English always reproduce the same ineffective patterns.
This is not the result of a lack of professionalism, but of the egoism of
the clubs, which successfully push their interests against the national.
Doesn't work tho. Their clubs are just as embarrassing as their national team. Hence Bayern - Arsenal 5:1 for the second time in just over a year.
Best of the best 😍🏴
Apollo Creed with the header at 2:55, but Schumacher saved it.
😂
You lot will never learn will you
Get outta my face Creed 😂
This match is after or before the world cup in Spain ?

@@alvinsiwft1234 good effort, I watched that game, it was fun...
When was it played , was it friendly on ?
It was friendly, in 1982, after the world championship in Spain. I remember it was one of the last really good games by the Germans with Derwall (the coach in this time).
Any England defeat is sweet We(Scotland )gave the game to the world!
Green and white looks nice on Germany.
Looks like a makeshift English team. Lots of players with only a few caps: Mabbutt, Hill, Regis and Wilkins as skipper. Good club players but, as usual, not quite good enough at international level.
It was rebuilding from 1982. By 1986 only Shilton, Butcher, Wilkins and Sansom went to mexico. Bryan robson was injured for this one

Yep England drew against them in Spain but no Keegan, Brooking or Hoddle that night...if only...this England team were good..
Hoddle was fit but underplayed....
England of post 1966 , 70s , 80s up to 90 was as good as any other teams ...
David armstrong?, was that the only cap he ever got
1:51 this english bloke can thank god, that Schumacher didnt saw that elbow against his teammate.
Crafty - he did it just as the referee was glancing to the side! Credit to the German player (who is it? Norbert Meier?) for not over-reacting to Butcher's elbow; just scowled at him and got on with the game.
Why? Would Harald have commited another atrocious, unpunished foul?
Experimental England side looked disjointed basically handed victory to the huns
England actually did OK in this game
I was at this game and remember it being very close and entertaining. The German GK Schumacher received abuse from the crowd every time he touched the ball because of the unpunished foul which nearly killed Battiston in the World Cup Semi-Final a couple of months previously. Rummenigge also played in an under 21 match the day before this game.
How could he? In October 1982, Rummenigge was 27!
Are you sure it wasn’t his brother Michael?
It was Littbarski who played in the under 21 Match
All 11 players were playing in that U21 match because of warming up.
distantvoices what’s Allofs doing there he was 25 at the time .
Shilts was pretty impressive at making saves in open play...........not so hot with penalties, though.
He wasn't very good on the goalline...a small goalkeeper..
But still one of the best keepers of all time
Massively overated
@@barrylongstaff2816 Immaculate in the 1982 World Cup finals - not one mistake in 5 games. That was his standard.
WHENT TO WMBLEY WITH MY SCHOOL TEACHER TO SEE THIS
Was it your English teacher?
England have never changed or improved since they won the world cup many years a go.Poor managers, negative formations, never playing to our strengths always trying to play a football that we are not comfortable with.England will never be successful trying to play a way that we think is suitable.

No surprise there. England is not a top shelf team, and never was.

4 English teams in the European cups semifinals?
Only because of foreigner players and managers...... All goals scored by foreigners, and the managers were from: Germany, Spain, Italy and Argentina.
This is one of the reasons why England will never win a major tournament, the other reason is because German football players are usually more talented than English players!
You are lucky the UK does not have one single team. Germany was very good 1972-74. Not so bad 1990. Good in 2014. Otherwise, crap! 1980-86, made good results, but shitty football. Just like Italy. This team was lucky in 2006. It was even luckier in 1982.
