In this episode, I talk more than I should and we complete the annual service on the legendary BMW E39 M5. Replacement of all fluids and brake master cylinder upgrade, following up with the top-speed run on the Autobahn and getting this 20-year-old beast to mind-boggling 300 km/h or 186 mph!

@@paveantelic7876 You have to remember that racing cars are not designed for outright top speed.. handling is a massive part of their design as well, and as handling is (often) down to downforce, that introduces drag which hampers top speed. That and typically they are also geared more for acceleration as again, you'll rarely ever hit top speed on a track, but being fast at pulling away from a corner is more important! And if you choose acceleration over gearing, again, you sacrifice top speed :)

i think in some ways higher limits and annual inspections for cars would help empower people.
In my part of the U.S., there're traffic signs informing drivers the left lane is for passing only, but I still get stuck behind them all the time.

You are such a great guy! This type of video recording and editing makes it sooo much enjoyable. I've watched all your videos in less than two weeks right after I found your channel. I got kind of addicted to them...you know. I'am an E46 touring owner, that is how I found your videos, but every other project you did was a BIG bonus added to the Cologne series. Like the way you talk and how you make jokes, and you are doing everything in such a professional way! I can understand every single "seems to be unnecessary but I do it" service you make, and that special feeling what it gives! It could be felt even through youtube while I was watching your videos. I've done this for a couple of years in a much smaller scale on my own, but the fact that you spend a lot of energy and time to do it professionally and even share it with people is something that is really appreciated by many of us.
All in all, please keep going! You are creating such a big value and you are a very valuable person. I can't wait for future content.

@@user-kp4dg2mu5h One of the coilpacks burnt sending the DME down with it. So that was fun. Luckily a company in Germany could fix the dme for € 400,00 instead of the solution BMW offered € 4.000,00 for a new DME. I think I’ve spent over € 3.000,00 fixing stuff, a lot of cosmetics too. It adds up quickly…

My dad used to have EXACTLY this one 10 years back, I was 16. It looks as beautiful as ever. It really has a special place in my heart.

As a Estoril Blue M5 owner here in the UK this was a great video buddy, definitely makes me feel like mine needs a good refresh on 175k miles. If you ever wanted more E39 content mine is always available and would happily start spending more money on it!

Love your channel, and as a [retired] mechanic I also love your maintenance ethics, if you can call it that - so many people complaining about their "shitty" cars, but can't be bothered to do even the most basic maintenance on them. Great homage to Sabine Schmitz, the queen of Nürburgring, may she rest in peace.

I watch every single video and then recommend it to my friends saying how good the channel is. I love this channel!!
Here is a random guy servicing some random internal combustion engine motor vehicles (which will soon be past century relics)...yet, every single minute of every single of the videos is thoroughly enjoyable. The way I see it, if you don't have an autobahn, it seems hardly justifiable to restore such masterpieces because you will never be able to do what these beauties are designed to do, which is to go at 300 km/h!

Stretene is really the kind of guy you know you could buy a 200k kms m5 without any second-thought cause his cars are absolutely spoiled and taken care of. Gotta love a man who respects and values his cars.
The only things that I hate of your channel are: 40 minutes aren’t nearly enough, and only one video a week is a torture. I have watched all yours videos 3/4 times because of that.

The E39 is my favorite M5, sadly some years ago I had an injury making me unable to drive a clutch so I've had to adjust to loving automatics, but the E39 is for me the pinnacle of M5's and I'll always consider it one of the best cars ever made! Great video!
What a beautiful car dude. My first BMW was a e39 528i. Together with my brother who is a mechanic we rebuild the engine and did some great upgrades. It stole my hart and till this day the e39 is in my opinion the best car ever made.

I chose violence and finally bought my 1st M car! I finally got a 2000 BMW E39 M5 so, thank you my good man! You and your channel were a turning point in my life as a BMW… lover? Customer? Frankfurt is very weather-weird place, Two weeks ago, was there. Shiny weather about 16 degrees and then, from nowhere comes such a massive hailstorm. Glad I miss it without any damages on my car.
Snow won't make your car rust , it's the salt that's used in most places against the Snow/ice is the killer. Some places do use sand, not sure if it's mixed with salt or not though. Here they have this liquid stuff they spray down before the snow even starts in some places, highways is where they use them mostly. But they still use salt also.
What a tribute, the car isn't bad either. R.I.P. Sabine, the woman who owned the e39 M5.
I like how you don't slam-shift the gearbox, it just goes to show how much you respect the car, while still having fun with it.

Of all the channels I see in my subscription feed, it's yours that gives me the most giddy feeling when it shows you've posted a new video! Almost like it's my birthday! Almost. Who am I trying to kid? It's better!
I have the exact same car, 2002, same color and 140,000 miles. I bought it in 2006 with 40,000 miles on it. It is my keeper and the only problem is that I live in the US so no autobahns for me.
The video gave me a vicarious thrill of what I could experience. The highest speed ticket I got was for 100mph and that's it.

Same here in Canada. 140 km/h on the so called "highway" will get you a nice fat ticket from the police. 150 will get your car impounded.
Then again, cars are often shitty here with only one safety certification at time of purchase (which can be faked).
This channel, carwow and old TopGear are my favorite channels on CZcams. When that e39 hit 300kph I've got goosebumps and that pure satisfaction when you realize that your car is doing well and your hard work pays off, I mean that is something priceless. Keep going man. 😊
The content by itself is interesting but what makes these videos so enjoyable is your sense of humour. Don't ever change! (Yourself, that is. By all means, change oil, filters, fluids...)

I had an E39 M5 but I sold it when I then bought an Bovensiepen Alpina BMW 5-V8s. That was a brilliant car - there was something special about the E39. Thank you for allowing me to re-live those days
