@Hicks That's exactly it. You have to relearn everything like keyboard short cuts and how to change stuff on the system. It's a big pain. Also if you try to use apple applications instead of Microsoft I.e. Words that is a big hassle in terms of learning how to use each application and then if you want to send your work to someone with Microsoft applications there are compatibility issues to deal with. I honestly don't think it's worth the hassle which is why I am going back to Windows as that's what I use at work.

Hi everyone, I purchased the dell Xps 13 in march 2021. I am in love with the structure, size, and weight of the laptop. It is very easy to transport and fit anywhere. I love how I am able to plug my charger on both sides of the laptop without bending my charger. One thing that really disappointed me was the camera quality. For that I can say apple is better at. I am satisfied with the battery life but I do realize that when my laptop is at very low battery, its performance is slow. I am also satisfied with the audio. I was also able to watch many videos, shows, movies this summer and I can say that I was very happy with the screen and display. The laptop can sometimes heat up here and there but I don't hear a strong fan noise like apple which I like. To sum up, I am very happy with my laptop but I really hope that dell improves its camera quality.

The most understandable reasons are its price and the OS. However, due to work-related issues, I decided to buy Macbook Pro. Here are few facts about Dell XPS 13"
    - The carbon fibre like finish surrounding the keypad and keyboard will start peeling off or become sticky in a year
    - The Hinges will break or become loose. When it breaks , the bottom rear side chassis opens up shows the internals
    - Starts to heat crazily for no apparent reason. ( this may be because of Windows )
    - Often goes blank or not come up correctly when connected to a dell dock
    - the touchpad and keyboard occasionally become so hot that , they are not touchable
    - Battery is a Joke in dell
    - Worst of all: keeps running even after closing the lid and shoving in the backpack. The whole thing would have caught fire inside the backpack
all these experience from the dell xps 13" given to me at work .. I own a M1 air for personal use
your verdict is so right. The so called " Features " of dell are not usable due to the massive inconsistency on how things work and how unreliable and clumsy they are in their day to day workloads

I have one related question: if I use this laptop anchored to my home desk (i.e. with peripherals such as external screen and keyboard and so on), is it still a good choice? Because of the pandemic, I will do most of my work (economics data analysis and programming) at home in the near future (so aesthetics or portability are not a problem or me); performance is I care more actually. Thanks for your answer indeed! I just saw the video that, I think, refers to the setup that you suggest (Dell XPS 13 9300 with HP Omen eGPU - gaming performance and thoughts
). Very informative! I will see how it goes first without an eGPU (although note that the one that you review in the other video is no longer produced by HP :( ). Following your advise I just got a Dell Adapter USB-C to HDMI/DP which extends the small amount of ports. Thank you again for your help!

really enjoyed your video, however you should try to improve your light setup. its a little bright on your face especially when it gets reflected by your glasses. maybe try to diffuse it a little more and add an indirect light in the background. keep it up

The XPS's battery life pissed me off so much. Advertised 12hrs+ video playback, and I got no more than 6 - 7hrs. It's a beautiful laptop, but it's internals are so mediocre for the premium price. I do not plan on buying a currently, so I'm hoping that Dell gets their ish together when I purchase new laptop 3 - 4 years from now.

How about the body surface quality? I usually see 'em wearing out real quick, specially the trackpad and XPS' looks no different to me.

    • @aaronfischer7676
      @aaronfischer7676 Před 2 lety

I think the body surface is pretty good quality. The trackpad and battery life are my biggest complaints with xps. I bought mine in 2019. I dunno if I will buy again. Imo mac is really good hardware and will last you a long time. I kinda want to try the microsoft surface laptop 4, also looks like a good option.

Yeah, that's the thing I'm really worried about. I've been searching for a new Windows laptop to replace my surface book 2 and I've been considering the Dell XPS 15 but for battery life that low and problems with overheating... I just don't think it's worth the price. I mean it's a great laptop and the fact that the memory cards can easily be replaced does certainly make it attractive. But I still don't think it's worth breaking the bank for.

I am actually going back from Apple MBPRO 2018 4core 2.3Ghz to Dell XPS 9310 i7 1185G7 cpu because of windows 11. When I turned off all the nice animations on MB it was kind of slow in browsing and response. i have tested how M1 performed, and it would solve my problems, but also my old laptop - core 2 duo with windows 11 responded nicely. I even tried windows 11 through bootcamp on my macbook, but there is significant battery life drop and you cant use touch id or touchbar...

InfinityEdge display is something I would terribly miss from my XPS, add to it that I'm on linux and the M1 is far from being ready to be a daily driver on it (latest kernet has been adapted to support it, but the gpu still needs some work and is now only working as base vesa card)

I'd be interested in this too. My experience with recent Dells is that they don't allow you to use Fn & Left/Right as Home/End, and that is massively important for rapid navigation around text (such as in coding).

Use Linux. I'm switching to it.
Edit: further context, Linux is generally better for programming as they are many distro's for you to choose from and optimise for your liking. You can even just run everything from command prompt.

One question for XPS: why would anyone buy a UHD instead of FHD until and unless they don't do some hardcore gaming or video editing? I have a YT channel but I don't shoot anything in 4k. It's too time consuming. Am I wrong here? Buying FHD will save me money, less heating and most importantly more battery life..!

Ive used the 16 inch macbook pro for a long time and recently bought the nearly fully configured m1 mbp for 1800 dollars and returned it to get the XPS 15 in arctic white (9510) and boy am I happy. I dont do any video editing at all, so this is a moot point for me, but for everything else (browsing the web, load times on office apps, SPSS stats suite, and some light gaming) the XPS absolutely blows both my 16 inch and the m1 macbook out of the water, plus I am getting a futuristic design, not an ancient one.

Though I'm in the apple ecosystem I went for the xps because its features fitted me better, I love the design and I'm used to windows and I like most things about it. MacOS never left a good impression on me, except airdrop. Also didn't want to give apple any more money lol.
