In todays video I show you my awesome new Squarebody Suburban! This is a 1987 GMC Suburban Sierra. The Suburban was originally an EFI 5.7 but some crazy person went ans swapped in a 6.2 Detroit Diesel!. This thing is going to take some work to get back on the road.

Personally I put a LT swap with the ECU like a 6.0. Nothing crazy just a junkyard motor out of a 1500 or 2500 HD. Auto trans and motor basically pull a whole harness and drivetrain from a donor. Make it a beautiful dependable daily that you would not hesitate to drive cross-country if need be also it will be fairly decent on fuel

I've owned 3 square body suburbans two were 6.2 2 wheel drives and the third is the one I kept, 89 1500 4x4 350 motor. I loved those 6.2 engine's. They were gutless but guy great fuel mileage. I still have the 89 and have big beefy 1 ton axles under it and looking for a Cummins motor to put in it. I Also still have an 87 M1009 military blazer that I have put 2.5 ton toploader Rockwells under it. It has the original 6.2 diesel that has the 24 bolt system.

I live in Colorado. There is lingering salt on the roads, and where our house is positioned at 9,000 feet there is lingering snow. The difference is that the air is thin and holds alot less moisture. Which means it's drier too. When you're closer to sea level the air is much thicker and holds alot more moisture which accelerates rust quite a bit. It's also why cold feels colder and heat feels hotter at sea level compared to high elevations. 10 degrees F here isn't that bad but the thick wet air in the Midwest makes 10 degrees unbearable.

Most blocks in stores are 4inch. I never seen them bigger than that. My jeep is a 6 inch sky jacker with the 4 inch block and 34 inch tires. I like the way that suburban is I wouldn't change the lift. And the motor I would go back to the 350 or 454 that is in them. I'm looking at a 89 ,90, and 91 suburban now because I always wanted one. And the price for these are cheap so might snag all 3 of them. They run and drive.

Very cool suburban! I do like a tall vehicle. But I grew up on a small dairy farm in the central valley of California and now live on 20 acres. There is always mud or levees to cross. So a little height is needed. I'm not an ls fan because I don't understand computers nor can I work on them. I like old school. Our 72 burb (not running due to time and other issues) has a 383 stroker (supposedly) . But it really used to pull. I put a 454 in my 69 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. No fuel mileage but it pulled like our duramax does. But if you have the ability and funds for an ls, have at it. It's your rig and has to be what you want and reliable for you and your family. Or you can put in a Cummins. Check out Merrick's Garage. He put a Cummins and a TR4050 5 speed manual transmission in his square body. Anyway, I just found your channel and I'm anxious to see what happens here.

I wish I knew someone like you a long time ago. We had an 83 with the 6.2 liter diesel, and that stupid 700r4 transmission. I'm sure it's a fine transmission for cars, but it had no business behind a high torque engine. So I went to crank it one day, and the starter cracked the block. And that was right after I rebuilt the transmission twice. But from they were telling me, there was no fixing it.

And my parents have had several Suburbans. My first ride was an ‘85 S-15 Jimmy (white like the one I caught a glimpse of in your vid). Only drove it a few months, witnessed a BAD wreck when I was with my dad, then the next day I got the K5 and my dad got a white ‘93 3/4 Burb. They had about 4 others over the years. My mom’s current ‘04 Burb is sitting at my house with a bad trans. I think she’s about done with it due to so many other issues, so I’m contemplating swapping the L59 5.3 into my ‘88 and rebuilding the 4L60e or hopefully finding an 80. Then parting the rest of it out. Swear these K5s and Burbs get into your blood, especially the squares!!!
