      IF was never really a struggle for me as I do Ramadan, but when doing HIIT, I always get dizzy and my sight turns dark and blurry.
      For now the days I know I have a HIIT session, I get oats to have enough carbs, but I don’t want to rely on that as I supressed any source of carbs from my meals. Any tips for that?

    I was 320 pounds on April 14th, 2022. As of today (November 4th, 2022) I am 223 pounds. I should hit a 100 pound weight loss soon. I walk 8 to 10 kilometers a day and I do the 23:1 OMAD interrmittent fast with an occasional 47:1 two day fast. I am a 61 year old male. I've never felt better in my entire life. This formula really works. My blood glucose was 576 when I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. Ive been doing keto, light exercise (walking 2 miles a day) and my resting blood glucose is around 120 now. Ive lost 35 pounds in 5 months with another 30 to go. It took around 3 months to lower my glucose and get out of the danger range. I no longer take insulin either. I lost my eyesight when my glucose dropped. It took around 8 weeks for my eyesight to return after my blood sugar stabilized. I’m the healthiest I’ve been in 30 years and improving everyday. Thanks for your videos Doc. You are saving lives and extending lives.

    • @chug-a-lugdoug4638
      @chug-a-lugdoug4638 Před 4 lety +38

      Paradev Paradev i lost my eyesight because of the rapid drop in blood glucose levels. We have very small blood cells in our eyes. My eyes had became use to the high blood sugar (thick blood). I dropped my blood glucose from 576 to around 100 by cutting out all the carbs and sugar. I drank only water and ate only salad. When my blood sugar dropped my eyes weren’t use to the low blood sugar (thin blood) and my vision went fuzzy and I couldn’t see. I went to a walmart and bought 4x reading glasses so I could read. The strongest reading glasses they had. I went to a eye doctor and got new glasses . Basically coke bottle thick lens glasses for blind people. It was a waste of money. After about 8 weeks , my blood sugar stabilized and my eyes became accustomed to the lower blood sugar (thin blood for the blood cells) my eyesight slowly returned back to normal. I returned the coke bottle glasses and got a new prescription. I can now see better than ever. This scared me because I thought I was going blind. Diabetes is the number 1 cause of blindness. If you have lowered your blood sugar and your eyes are fuzzy, give it 8 weeks or so and your eyesight should return. Of course the official answer is , go see a eye doctor. The diabetes blindness is caused by something called diabetic retinopathy. This is where your retinas actually detach from the back of your eyes. This isnt what I had. It was the blood cells in my eyes readjusting to the new low glucose .If you dont have the money To see a eye doctor, wait until your eyes re-adjust to your new improved healthy blood sugar level and SEE if your eyesight returns. Even after I got the second pair of glasses, my eyesight has even gotten better and i should go get a new scrip. I can see fine without glasses now. I would Say it took about 12 weeks for my Eyesight to come back completely. Again, my blood sugar was extremely high and then I dropped it very fast to around 100 or so. I didnt have a glucose meter when I was pre-diabetic and had no idea My blood sugar was that high or I was that sick.

    I've been fasting daily for 16-18 hrs a day for the past 9 months. The only times that I've seen weight loss and anti-inflammatory effects are when I was doing keto meals or avoiding refined sugar/refined flour. I've learned that despite fasting and eating in a calorie deficit; if added sugar and flour-based foods are consumed, water retention will occur, inflammation will occur, putting on weight will occur and bloating will occur. So, for me at this point. For example, I've realized that consuming fruits, mashed potatoes, or sweet potatoes or any other whole food is ideal for weight loss and anti-inflammatory effects. Eating refined sugar and bread, in my personal experience is the reason for a failing fasting experience. One can only see benefits when we choose whole foods, free of added sugar or a keto´-like diet. Dr. Ekberg, thanks for sharing knowledge.

      Hm. I lose weight with 16:8 and still eat treats like cake (in smaller portion). Slowly, though. Also, isn't fruits also high in sugar and potatoes is refined starch tho?

    • @MissSweetBabe
      @MissSweetBabe Před 3 lety +5

      @@cryinglaughingemoji1741 A piece of a chocolate cake can have 10 times more sugar than one apple. Also, cake and fruit have completely different kinds of sugar - the one in cake is artificial and we should not want to feed our cells with artificial things and this high dosage of sugar causes a spike in level of sugar in our blood; whereas sugar in fruit tends to be slowly released into our bloodstream because of the fibers in fruit. It sounds like nature already made us a perfect "cake" :))
      Also, it has been proven that your skin ages faster if you eat more added sugars.
      If you are losing weight without eliminating cake as you said, you probably have a faster metabolic rate and you may not be as insulin resistant as Alex or me, however for your health benefit, you are really better off without the artificial stuff that contain even 3 times more sugar than one apple. Think of it as a poison in a very small dosage. And if you are not gaining weight from it, it does not mean it is healthy for you or anybody. This is honestly something that I try to incorporate into my routine and I will usually have one treat like ice cream once in a week or two. Sometimes I'll have more if I have too many things on my plate, but generally I try to avoid any artificial manmade things including added sugars.

    Because of several health issues that demanded immediate action on my part, I started on the keto lifestyle on Sept. 1, 2020, and implemented IF/OMAD right then. I had already greatly reduced my eating, but I needed to be disciplined about it, and that was the best way for me---just dive into the deep end. I haven't regretted it even for a moment, and only wish I'd been doing keto and IF for years, rather than just the six weeks I've been living it.
    My doctor isn't convinced that keto and IF are the way to live, but he isn't the one experiencing all the stupidity of how I've mistreated this body for over six decades, so I'm going to continue with keto, not the SAD, which is what he thinks I "should" be following (that was what was ruining my health in the first place!)

    This is one of the best video for someone who never try Intermittent fasting. I have been doing IF for a little more than 4 months & I lost 20 lb. It has been the least painful & easiest way to lose wt, mainly fat. The best thing is I feel so good. The back pain that caused me tossed & turned while sleeping before IF, the pain is gone. I look & feel great, & I lost those brain fog, & I don't feel that I get hijacked by hunger or low blood sugar. If you reach a plateau on wt lost, then have a longer fast once or twice per yr, such as 24 - 36 hr. I am 54 yr old, & feel better than I was 40 to 30s. My next challenge is to try keto diet & 5 days water fast. Guys who want to lose wt & feel great, try IF. It is not hard at all. It changed my life for the better. Thanks Dr. Ekberg.

It's science where the basics can be understood by most people with half a brain who are dedicated to learn about it. This goes for much of the nutritional advice Eckberg is putting up too and a lot of what he teaches can be practiced on a diet consisting of healthy and reasonably sustainable largely plant based whole foods, which I try to do myself as a supposedly somewhat intelligent Swede.

    Reduced carb intake and fast 23 hours but eat as much calories as I needed in my feeding time. I
    was able to reverse my insulin resistance.
    Before that I was doing IF and OMAD for six months but was puzzled when my blood test revealed I was pre-diabetic, that was because I stiil consume high carbs in my eating window. But after adopting extremely low carb and increased healthy fat consumption, my fasting blood glucose dropped close to the lowest of normal range, triglycerides dropped, HDL increased, now feeling way better than I was before.

I had no leg pain the first day after...I'm starting to believe in the benefits. We will see how I feel end of month, but I may move to 2 meals a day on my off days. I will also say, I really savor and enjoy my food more because I am truly hungry when I eat it. I also make better choices. I am hoping at the end of this to reduce inflammation in a sports injury, increase my discipline, and I wouldn't mind dropping a few vanity lbs...

Now that I've watched several of Dr Ekberg's videos, I'm easing into longer periods of IF to break thru what I think must be IR. I rarely get hungry, but I've had to get used to the idea of eating moderate protein & high fat. The proof that it works (initially) has been in that I don't get hungry. I'm easing into longer intervals of fasting & I'll try the BP Coffee! Before discovering Dr E's videos, I had noticed that I felt much better when I didn't eat for 12 + hours of time. Now I know why!

I've never been an over-eater, in fact for most of my life I have eaten only one meal a day any more than that and I feel bloated. I had a cup of black coffee this morning, and the last time I ate was 24 hours ago (dinner time yesterday). I'm not hungry at all but I catch myself looking in the fridge for no reason. Then I close the door and walk away. I keep wanting to extend the length of time I don't eat but I need something to sip and keep me from the habit of eating just because it's dinner time.
    I just drank some water with a little lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, and I made a cup of tea to sip. Now I just need to stay out of the kitchen.

For breakfast now I have a bullet coffee ( grass fed butter and MCT ) and a cocktail of 1 gm NAC, 1 Gm Lycine, 3 Gms Taurine and Creatine Monohydrate. My stomach seems well satisfied with that. Since I don't want to lose any more weight ~ I'm really happy with going from 90 to 75 Kgs without muscle loss ~ I'll follow your advice of alternating days. When he retired from dancing which meant reducing most the activity (his new job was being a rector of ballet academy) he started gaining weight. He gained considerable amount. Then few months later at the interview he was slim again. When asked how he slimmed down so fast he said he ate until 3:00 and then didn't eat for the rest of the day. And suggested it to his students as well. I started researching it and started doing it myself. Lost 20 pounds so far in few months. For two decades, no matter how much I exercise, my weight would never get below 180 lbs. After doing IF for 3 months, and not exercising anymore or less than I did before, I got to the weight of 165 lbs - the same weight I was while I was in high school, 30 years ago.
    Over the past several months I've been mostly eating one meal a day with some occasional extended fasts. Since I only eat one meal a day most of the time, I am more mindful about eating higher quality and more nutritious food. I do, however still like to enjoy life, so I apply the intermittent fasting principle to dessert: I only eat dessert once per week.

    Amazing information on IF. Actually I was so scared of fasting but once understand the science behind this, it's getting easier to accept and practice. Thank you Dr Sten.

    I love IF. I discovered 30 years ago - long before the term IF was ever heard of - that my body simply likes it better if I only feed it twice a day rather than the standard "3 squares."
