I use that hood latch trick all the time. Remember, its all about the pressure points
Yeah my wife tells me the same thing
I was amazed ! What if the car thieves learn this trick ?
I would have to fix it. It would annoy me too much
I thought I could hear a little OCD in your voice when Sam said he was just going to leave it…
Alex you always seem to find those pressure points and get the sequence just right 😆 Great to see you and Samcrac at it again 👍🏽
It's always a good tactic to buy high mileage cars that are known to have good drivetrains and engines if you know they have a good service history.
I tried this, ended up with an 05 Honda Odyssey. Turns out Honda forgot how to make transmissions when they built the 05 models.
Yup, i got my 2005 Trailblazer at my local auction for $1500 with 267k miles. Engine was replaced at 150k and has a brand new transmission! (And new tires) once in a lifetime buy! I'm never selling it.
@@unlisted9494 Honda was known for weak transmissions in the early 2000s. My dad's Accord has nearly 300k miles on the original V6 and auto transmission. The transmission is at the point to where I start it in 2 and downshift to 2 when coming to a complete stop. The 1-2 shift is the worst in that car.
don’t matter only thing that matters about a 250k mile is the rust
Lmfao no
Enjoying this video and looking forward to part 2. Thanks for the awesome content and a budget build.
I think that you got a great deal on that car, even with those miles. The C6 Corvette seems to be the modern day equivalent of the Fox body Mustang as it's reliable, affordable and responds well to mods.
I own a 2006 C6 with 22,900 miles which was purchased used in 2011.
Congratulations on finding this good buy .
The best part about it is having the knowledge / know how to repair / replace the faulty issues . Or ,having good friends to help you along the process of repair .
When you raise the top and it's almost in place, I think you can hear a 'bump' at 18:56. That sound is likely from the plastic piece (that hides the top when down) that raises up behind the seats, hitting the bottom of the of the convertible top area by the rear window as they pass each other as the plastic cover is closing. That happens because of a couple of cloth like plastic straps under the top liner that stretch over time, causing the rear window section to be slightly lower - allowing it to bump into the other piece. People just punch a new hole in the strap maybe a 0.5" back (not positive about that distance) to remedy the problem. Hope that made sense! 2009 black C6 vert owner. Thanks for the video!
It’s the forward center edge of the deck lid hitting the inner/upper window trim as the folded top (rear window) is not pulled in sufficiently to clear ( like it was when new). My 2012 C6 manual top straps lasted only 2-1/2 years before stretching. I have been lightly pushing the window to clear when top dropping down and opening.
@@winstonwong3326 I've had a couple of Vettes, a C4 and currently a C7 Z06, also a still have a really clean '92 Z28. All serious GM performance car owners should admit the truth when they say "something breaks every time you drive it".
@John Smith This Corvette made in Japan would not be reliable. It is still engineered horribly and put together with inferior parts which is the real tell of what makes a car good and reliable. I can have Japanese master techs build a race car but if I give them a bunch of poop and wooden Sticks and tell them to build me a car they would build me a pile of shit. You need a few things to have a reliable car. Fast, reliable, and cheap. Those three are the trifecta.
@John Smith Bruh. I got a 2007 Honda Accord and a 1988 Chevy Corvette, you’re missing out on a lot by going with the V6 only big boy Japanese racers. The V8 American cars can be very reliable and more fun with the extra torque.
@@tybeeislandgoat1402 This is made in Japan? It made it 250,000 miles already with little issues. That is impressive to me.

On your headlights, don't bother with the replacement "lens" ... simply scuff off the 1/8" of clear coat on the existing ones, apply the "solvent" to fuse the crazing back together, sand, buff and a light clear coat and you'll be golden !!! From personal experience. Replacement headlights are crazy expensive ($2,400 for the pair) so that's what I did on my 2007 C6 Z06 when I was in Athens, Greece ... 5 years later (and a couple of Countries later) still look like new. Good luck ... it's a 5 hour job BTW ... the guy in Greece that did mine was like "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" on how thick the GM Clear Coat was originally !!!
I did this on my old Mitsubishi eclipse and they looked as good as new.

Corvettes are always discounted as a performance car. Considering the cost of the parts and the longevity,
I think they are the best sports car on the road

Seems like this is going to be one of the very rare ones that you completelly finish, maybe a complete inside and out detailing to top it out?

Amazing to see a Corvette, especially a convertible, with high miles. Most are boomer garage queens, driven sparingly, buffed weekly.
Bought my wife her dream car - a 2001 Black Corvette Convertible with less than 24,000 miles for les than $23,500. She loves it and drives it 27 miles to and from work every day.
I put 30k mile on my c7 in the past 2 years
And that’s where we private market buyers come in hehehe
More Boomer cracks. Typical
Ha I was thinking the same thing, that's why when he points out the average cost is mid $20k an the average milage is under 50 well not too many cars that are almost 15 years old are considered average milage under 50k unless it a garage Queen
I used to own a fully loaded 2005 Corvette convertible with magnetic ride select and power top. Bought it used with 30k miles for 30k in 2010 drove it for 4 years and some 86 yo man t-boned it. It was totaled and insurance company wrote me a check more than what I paid for the car since it was appraised at 37k when I bought it :). I did spend some money on it for a RPM stage 2 differential but it was all worth it.
These videos are so satisfying. Nice to see these pretty solid but neglected cars being saved.
Sam.. WOW! Well done on the C6 purchase. I have an 11 Grand Sport Convertible. Make sure that you reset the AUTO DOWN on the windows. When you raise and lower the windows, HOLD the switch in the UP position for 3-4 seconds. And the same for the down position. When you open the door, the window should jump down about a 1/4" or so. Be careful if you hose down the engine. Dont soak the electrical connectors. There watertight SORT OF... They can get wet inside.
You gotta love it when all your issues seem like they’re going to be expensive, like cutting the hood off, convertible roof motors, and misfire on a 200,000+ mile engine. And in the end all it needs is a window actuator and a coil pack. This was a huge score.
none of those were as drastic as you say ...unless you're an idiot that doesn't know the 1st thing about these vettes , what moron would "cut the hood off" ??? come on , only a know nothin bone head . was obvious the roof motors were fine from the start and the misfire is just about always a coil
I nearly cried in exuberance. LOL

Great job, Sam. You deserve a big victory now and then. Great videos.
you have been knocking it out of the park, considering the current market shortages.
That’s so awesome sam! What a great find ! That corvette is BEAUTIFUL !
I think this is a great deal. I would be happy to take it off your hands. I think running a compression test on the engine will answer the major questions regarding mechanical condition, assuming no accidents historically.
Sam you had an amazing deal on the Corvette buddy, and what a Corvette it is. I absolutely love that car. Brilliant...🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧🙂👍👍👍
Amazing deal, congrats! It almost balances out all the bad auction purchases :D
You can lightly use Brasso and very soft cloth to buff out the headlights outer lens, you would need to clean them afterwards. Brasso is mainly used for metal but does nicely on used headlights.
You can use vinegar, baking soda, and so soap also.
- Mix the baking soda and vinegar in the ratio of 2:1. This mixture leads to carbon dioxide gas that helps lift dirt from the headlamp.
- Add liquid soap into the mixture.
- Dip the cloth into the mixture.
- Use the cloth to scrub the outer part of the headlight.
- Repeat the process until the outer part is clean.
When you are satisfied that it is clean, rinse with clean water and dry it with a dry cloth.
Congrats and looking forward to watching progress

A 773,000 mile C5 Corvette on original motor/no rebuilds was recently donated to the Corvette museum. And many other owners with hundreds of thousands of miles- remarkable for a sports car. These motors last literally forever.
The head gasket for that car lasted until 750k miles, amazing engine design. The guy lived near my city of Jacksonville FL ha.
What action did you buy the car from

Wow... very cool! I purchased a Black C4 95 Vette with 87,000 miles and some change in April this year from an older gentleman from Abilene TX.... for under $10,000..the car has the Boze stereo with cassette and cd player factory and it still all works....
That is a beautiful Corvette! It speaks very highly of what GM can do when they want to. Decoding RPO codes is the best way, but another way to get if the car is a base or Z51 is the presence of drilled/slotted rotors. Base cars had solid discs, if I'm not mistaken. This is not fool-proof though as someone could have replaced the OE solid rotors with drilled/slotted ones.
Only thing better than Alex being in a Sam video is scantily clad step mom
Probably one of your best acquistion Sam

For 8 grand you could just rag it around like a mad man and run it into the ground and you’ve still had an amazing deal / time.
Doesn’t matter how many miles have the Corvette, besides the fact that “usually” owners maintain pretty well , is one of the very few decent American cars .
Yes and still a Chevy when it comes to things such as the motor. Much cheaper to repair than a foreign exotic.
My 89 has 272,000 miles on it and still strong. My 71 wasn't built as well as the Bowling Green cars. Still enjoy them both though.
I agree if the owner is an adult and not a man child trying to impress his friends with his dad's Corvette doing burnouts and other childish behavior at every chance he gets.
13:05 This happened to Cletus McFarland [SEE: “Ruby”, the auction Corvette], only it was the previous owner who blew up (and then replaced) the original engine. 😎
This car is a steal! Can't wait to hear the projected numbers on doing the mechanical works.
Have you actually looked underneath it? I was looking at a 2004 Mustang GT, and it looked great in and out. It also seemed to run fine. But when I crawled under it, I found the whole undercarriage was mangled. Dents and gouges everywhere, the pinch welds and frame rails were smashed.
I have sold 96 cars. Nobody ever looked underneath any of them.
These seems like an exceptional deal, particularly given the way car prices have gone in the last two years. if the worst problems of an "as-is" car can be fixed for $500, you are laughing. I have had a 2008 C6 Coupe for the last six years. It is an excellent Grand Touring car and exceptionally reliable. There are enough Corvettes out there that most parts are available somewhere.
Have you had to change your harmonic balancer yet?
@@thecatfighter1 No issues. Apparently not every GM LS has this problem.
@@lesliereissner4711 i have an 08 vette as well and it’s starting to do its thing with the balancer I believe 😔
@@thecatfighter1 It seems very inconsistent, as it seems some cars get it with low mileage and others not at all. My car has around 65,000 miles and no sounds from the balancer. Sam was due for a win, with those other cars kicking his butt lately this one, even with 257K miles, you scored no doubt!
I definitely wouldn't have been driving it without at least checking fluid levels first. You never know exactly what the history of the 250k is, no matter how well it might seem to have been taken care of.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I suppose it has full gauges, oil pressure and temp, so if the oil or coolant is really low you should get a warning before you damage the engine.
I'm sure he checked the fluids first.
@@billwilson3609 Without opening the hood, how would he do that?
@@BryanTorok By not having himself filmed doing that. Any person with a lick of sense always check the fluids in used vehicles they're considering to buy.
@@billwilson3609 So, you are calling Sam a liar when he said in the video couldn't get the hood open at the lot? And again you say he lied about only getting the hood open after the car was driven to his home and a friend found the releases in the wheel wells?

My experience? If a car sits, like through a virus shutdown, the injectors get gummed up and P0300 pops up. Mechanics will throw parts at it when all it needs is injector cleaner.

The mechanicals of the Corvette are easily good for 200K+ miles. Most just don't get that high because they're not driven every day.
They actually get decent mpg as well especially on the interstate with that 6 speed.
My 7 speed Corvette would regularly average 33-34mpg on long freeway trips. Best tank ever was 36.7mpg average with 544 miles on the tank. At the end of the day its still just a chevy pushrod v8, as long as the electronics hold up they will run forever. It legit had the best MPG out of the 9 cars in my fleet, it was even doing better than my Corolla.
Vettes are built to be driven, and driven hard. They really live up to their reputation and prestige.
200k+ driving it like a race car which they were made for. But with good service driven like a normal daily car LS motors can easily go 400k+ they are bullet proof. But who wants to drive it like that ;)

For those old regulators look up Power Window Repair in Phoenix. They replace the plastic parts with metal ones so no more crap breaking here or there. I replaced the one on my 03 Dakota on the drivers side multiple times and still had the same issues every 6 to 10 months where it would break. Put the rebuilt one in and it has been going strong for 2 years and counting. Well worth it instead of putting in more planned to break parts.
Sage! Save your back in advance. All that bending over to replace the seat cover. Put it up on some saw horses or a table and stop bending over so much and save your back. Your young now, it’s easy, but it takes it’s toll in the long run. Also get some rubber mats to stand on. Standing on concrete also takes its toll on your back in the long run.
