    Sup gang, I just wanted to address the fact that during the video playback, the audio during gameplay doesn't necessarily sync up with the solenoid sounds for some reason. The reality is there is no delay whatsoever and the flippers are instantaneous and in sync with the solenoid feedback.

    I have a 12V rail in my cab and use these for flippers, bumpers, and slings. All run though Cleveland Software extender boards. My table absolutely rocks at medium to high volumes. Just need better speakers now. There isn o perfect solution - the Thuderclaps seem more elegant, but for pure noise and feedback its hard to beat these $10 solenoids!

  • @gn3569
    @gn3569 Před 2 lety

    I've been using ten Ford SW3 solenoids in my cab for two years now. On average, one fails per year, but they are so inexpensive at $10 each, and readily available everywhere, it's no big deal. I just keep a couple of spares on hand. I also found the SW3's are more responsive than Siemens contactors to fast flipper operation, similar to what you see with the Thunderclaps.
    Initially I used a Sainsmart driver board, but individual Sainsmart mechanical relays would wear out and break over time - three failed in less than two years - so I replaced it with mosfet drivers, which have been rock solid.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree. They are sooo worth it compared to many other expensive alternatives. And the feedback is much better.

  • @Major_Drain
    @Major_Drain Před 2 lety

    I’ve got em on my Vpin, they are a little clacky sounding but very responsive. You can program the solenoids to fire off and then shut off to prevent them from burning out. The controls are on your pinscape I believe.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 2 lety

      Yeah man, I remember talking to you about this last year! I was hesitant because of overheating due to the amount of activity the flippers get, but then I realized that extreme gaming cabinets uses these exact solenoids for their entire cabinet build, including flippers, I was like fuck it. I'm loving them so far.

  • @butchs.4239
    @butchs.4239 Před rokem

    Enjoyed the video. Just wanted to point out that you can get 24 Volt solenoids almost as easily as 12 volt ones. Auto parts store can get them, but I'd try somewhere that sells HD truck parts as they should stock them. They're a bit more expensive, but you'd eliminate the need for the 24V to 12V transformers and they'll likely be rated for continuous duty so you could hold the flipper all day without overheating one.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před rokem +1

      Hey man, thanks. I actually did look into the 24-volt solenoids. The problem is they were more expensive and there were no guarantees on the open hold so I decided to go with something that was tried and true. But I agree, I wouldn't mind giving a heavy duty 24 volt solenoid a shot just to see what happens.

  • @superjackpot6676
    @superjackpot6676 Před 2 lety

    Thanks for the video! I think I read that you are upgrading to the Ultra VP 6.0 unit. Are you planning to perform this same upgrade on the 6.0 unit, stick with the factory contactors for flippers, or go with the solenoid upgrade option being offered by RRW?

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the view! So the solenoid upgrade offered by RRW is because of this review lol. But yeah, I'll be doing the solenoid mod for sure. No question about it.

    • @superjackpot6676
      @superjackpot6676 Před 2 lety

      @@Scantron5k Thanks! Lol good to know. I was wondering if the RRW solenoid upgrade option uses the same solenoids that are on the rest of the game or the 12v ones you use here. I really like the difference in sound that the flipper solenoids make versus the ones in the rest of the game. That sound difference between solenoids seems closer to how a real pin sounds.

  • @SkoshOfSean
    @SkoshOfSean Před rokem

    Do you feel that the SW3 solenoids are best for the flippers but you should still use Thunderclaps or something else for the rest of the cabinet?

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před rokem

      I believe they are hands down best for flippers. I do not use Thunderclaps any longer. Just different solenoids for the additional cabinet feedback.

  • @clevelandsoftwaredesign

    Have you seen the solenoid life extender boards I sell on Cleveland Software Design? They are specifically designed to prevent them from overheating over time. They don't overheat right away because of how massive they are, but after 20 minutes of play, you will notice them getting quite hot, and they will actually fail due to heat after a while.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 2 lety

      Haven't seen them. How much are they and how easy are they to install?

    • @clevelandsoftwaredesign
      @clevelandsoftwaredesign Před 2 lety

      @@Scantron5k They are simple to install, they just go in between your power and the solenoid. The two position one is $20, if you send me a note on my website I'll send you one to try out if you want.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 2 lety

      @@clevelandsoftwaredesign will they also work in line with the voltage reducers that I'm using in my video? I wouldn't be opposed to making a review video of these things for you if I like the product. I can drop you a note on your website if that works.

    • @clevelandsoftwaredesign
      @clevelandsoftwaredesign Před 2 lety

      @@Scantron5k Yes they should work in line with the voltage reducers just fine. They are designed for 12V, so you will want to hook them up on the 12V side between the solenoid and the voltage reducer.

    • @Scantron5k
      @Scantron5k  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Some builders use these solenoids on their entire cabinet. Highly recommend them. I would especially use them for flippers but you can't go wrong using them for everything else.

      @@Scantron5k So I got this hooked up and I really like them. Nice punch, better than the original stock Arcade 1up solenoids. Having an issue since install though, which may be EMI related. My KL25Z board disconnects sometimes when the solenoids fire. Also noticed that my LEDs, which are hooked up to 5V from the same power supply, dim when the new solenoids activate. I've ordered a new power supply and some usb cables with ferrite chokes, as some have suggested. Anyways, I see that your voltage reducer is 2A. The solenoids are 6A. No issues with that I assume?
