- This is the bike I purchased in March of 2016 with 9,000 miles and it now has almost 33,000 on it as of 7/13/17. Now as of 10/28/21 I have 72,000 miles on the bike. A New update video will be out shortly! Just a short video of the positives, negatives, and modifications to this bike.

U R the king of the road , Mate ....... Love you brother, lots of love from South India. Planning to get one fo these soon, thank you for your fffffffffffffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk presentation,
Just bought a 2009 model and love it. It's got 12k on it and I can't wait to start doing some road trips. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the review
Nice bike I just purchased a 2012 model as my first bike.
Great review Erik, well done. This year I bought a 2010 GS 650 gs with 30,00kkms , its like new, hats off to the previous owner for taking such good care of it. I haven't done any long days on it yet and I agree the stock seat is less than ideal but I also got a Sergeant seat with it and I use an Airhawk pad so not too bad. Having had bikes with very good brakes these are not the best, it is a matter of adjusting to them, they are what they are. All in all I am very happy with it, I wanted a light weight bike with good performance and handling and it fits the bill. Its easy for me wheel around and that's important as I am going to be eighty next month. I just wish they called a 800 right from the start its tiresome having to explain its not a 650.
It’s the Swiss Army knife of mid weights! It packed me all over the country. I’ve since sold it and have an s1000xr now.
Just picked up a 2011 F650GS! I see you have a MB Sticker and have a southern accent. I'm in Charleston. Maybe I'll see on the road ? Rubber Side Down!
Well Heck! After watching to the end I saw the Louisiana tag.
Its a really solid bike. I wasn't a fan of the BMW F-GS styling, but a year ago (in 2018) I found a really good deal on the 2012 F650GS and I went with my gut because it was an 800cc electronically governed to 650cc. Its not the most exciting bike, but it has plenty linear (smooth) power. If you are happy with a bike that barks up to between 180 - 200 km/hr then you will be extremely happy. Personally, as an older rider I'm quite happy to ride at much lower speeds and use the extra power when needed.. The bike handles very well in the city and on the highway. It can do some light off-road but its definitely not a scrambler. The factory original comes with a very low screen which is useless at high speeds. I'm not a fan of the silver-grey plastic on my bike and am looking for a wrap to sort that out, but really - it has a super bullet-proof motor. Pity it looks like Marge Simpson!
At the moment! When I get the wrap on, it will look brilliant.
Love my bike. I need to do another update. I have 52k miles on it. Have had some minor problems but nothing I haven't been able to fix myself. Its great!
@@ErikWillie waiting for your update, getting one tomorrow :)
What's your definition of exciting?
My BMW F650 is the equivalent to a good horse that NEVER backs down! Howdy
The BMW f650gs is good on the road, but it should not be underestimated off road. My brother has an older version of this bike, and I've ridden on the backseat, it's a great bike
I agree. Since this video I've done plenty of off road events with it. When I take this one off road I put the 16 tooth front sprocket on it. First gear is so tall! I need to do another video. Ive got 65k miles on it now.
Thanx for the update, great mods? I just got a 2010 F650GS and as wondering which oil filter you use for your gs?
Lovely bike!!! Do you think it is beginner friendly!? I am 52 years old, 183cm high with 110kg and like this BMW! Regards from Serbia 🇷🇸✌️
Hi, no rather get a F800 if you can. This bike is good but f800 is a fuller package and a bit more power. If you can rather getbthe f800GSA. Bigger tank, more planted on the ground, and stronger frame. Will carry you with grace. 650 is good for smaller riders.
mate can you make a update video after 72k miles? appreciate it
its funny how he says that he wont do math in public, although he was my 8th grade math teacher. Hi Mr. Willie!!!
I have the exact same bike! What is the brand name of your crash bars? Do they serve as lower engine protection as well?
I'm pretty sure that your front tire was mounted backwards. It should have a forward direction arrow on it, but the rain channels on your tire are definitely backwards.
It should still work fine on dry pavement, but it can cause hydroplaning on extremely wet roads.
Good eyes. If directional sidewalls should be thus marked.
How do you reset the service light after oil change?
That's a sexy bike.
Try a GIVI airflow for the F700. It works a treat.
I really like how the Bike looks. The Silver Color with the New Graphics looks good. I have a 2006 R1200GS I am trading a guy for a 2011 F650GS. I’m 62 and needed to downsize to something lower to the Ground and not so heavy. I’m really seeing a lot of good reviews on these. 👍👍
I went the opposite way. This was my first bike. Traded it for an 1150GSA and worked up from there. It is now somewhere around northern Iowa. I put over 70k on it before I traded it. I should have done another review! Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions.
I have this good medium bike not expensive 70 000 Km. No problem, only for gaz pump and the saddle.
When they hit zero you've got Something like point 58 galland they call that reserve. Already in the tank no valve change. 😢
Thank you Erik for this updated and honest review. I live in scotland and ride all year round (rain, snow everything!) I am currently on a Suzuki bandit, however the F800Gs is my dream bike. Really wanted to know what its like all round. Would you say you can hit the corners good on this bike?
thanks again mate! subbed.
It can for sure handle the corners. Needs to be equipped with the right tires for the job. Had some cheap Shinko's on there, and it didn't do so well. I have a set of Perelli Scorpion's on there now, and i actually will scrape the front corner of my boxes sometimes. But it will certainly handle the curves a lot better than you expect a dual sport to be able to.
thank you!, I would probably put pilot 3 road tyres on it :)
Good Mr.willie
What size is the GS sticker on the sides? I want these too, I can choose between 100mm to 550mm. Or do you have a link for the sticker(s) ?
I just found them on Amazon!
Nice Video. Do you know the Brand and Model of your motocage? I really like this one and want to get one too for my gs :)
SW Motech I think? Either that or Puig.
hi sorry me elglish but why is 650 gs if have a motor 798cc?
I had this bike! I loved it. Now I have a g 310. Do you have a Snapchat that you use for daily vlogging? I love to follow my biking community on their daily rides!!
I like the idea of the stickers...at least it stops you having to explain it's not a 650 but a 798! why BMW did this I'll never understand.
Homeengineering you’re right! My insurance bills me for an 800 cc so why not advertise it? Maybe one day I can sell it as a limited edition!
I need to do an update. Has 44k on it now
Because it's a bit down tuned from the 800 so more encouraging to newer riders. Silly but true.
Just bought a 2009 f650gs and looking for saddle bags
Ebay.
I am still confused with bmw model naming. I was offered 2012 f650 800GS by used motorcycle dealer. F650 is 800cc... So does 800GS. But is there f650 800gs model? Or f650 is different than 800GS
Here is my explanation to the best of my ability.
For a couple of years BMW made a 650, 700, and 800 twin.
The 650 had the "least" power of the three, and a single disc brake on the front.
700 had two disc brakes and slightly more power.
800 had two disc brakes on front and adjustable suspension on some models. The 800 was also offered in an ADV model which came with a larger gas tank under the seat, and of course more power.
My "650" packed me all across this country with no issues. Sure the 1200's would leave me in the straights, but I could hang with them in the curves!
@@ErikWillie thanks man..i ll probably settled with f800 2011. How is the comfort of bmw? I decided to quit on my kawasaki sport as the road here is crappy. I got a lot of back pain due to bump hitting my spine. Currently use crf250 , it is v comfortable and plushy suspension but not enough power in highway.
@@terryhari7534 What area are you from? Mine has taken me all over the country with no issues. Put a MadStad Windscreen on it, and a Sargeant Seat. It became a touring machine!
@@ErikWillie Indonesia. The city road isnt bad. But occasionally need to go to outskirt area where road isnt properly made. Additionally there is this super high speed trap that could bottom out regular sport bike
You're running road tyres so I take it that you don't go off road much with it or at least anything serious. Screen should only deflect the wind from around your body as that's the biggest & widest obstacle for wind resistance. Helmet doesn't matter.
BMW F798gs!!!
Hey Erik, I have a question about your bike. Any chance you can email, text or call me?

@@ErikWillie Thanks man, I did.
