    ========================
    I AM Builders is a National Construction Estimating Firm in the business of helping contractors win projects.
    We estimate and takeoff your entire project for you based on local pricing.
    Most contractors are so busy running their jobsites that they NEGLECT the estimating. You’re supervising jobs, making deliveries, going to jobsite meetings, and the only time to work on estimating is NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS.
    It doesn’t have to be that way! Start automating your estimating using I AM Builders today!

    As a long standing contracting business in Dallas Texas its all about presentation. Who you are and the opinion of your service. Its a small world. Next it cost money to stay open and around for the clients to call you. Always know your worth. Dont bid low you attract low. . You want a small percentage of high end. Not an abundance of low end....

      Of course I fully agree. When you’re new and have zero reputation or relationship, all you can compete on is price in the beginning. Once you prove your value, you can increase in price.

    Recently found your channel. Content has been great but the change order thing is how you get blackballed. You may get one or two projects. Afterwards everyone will know you come in low. They’ll rework their numbers then you start hitting them with change orders and never get hired again

    • @iambuilders
      @iambuilders  Pƙed 7 měsĂci +1

      I hear what you’re saying but I think you missed the point of the video. You’re going to charge change orders no matter what. It’s a natural thing in every project. If you already know this, you can afford to come in lower in the front end. You’re not purposely underbidding to screw them over later. That’s shady.

    Your information is very valuable but this background music makes it hard to continue.

    It's partly the fault of their business model of finding leads and submitting bids. That's just a race to the bottom. And they won't be in business long. And they'll end up having to get a job, or start a business on social media.
    Contracting is more about building a relationship, rather than merely chasing jobs.
    If you become buddies with your customers first it will be more of a work feed, where they tell you about what they got going on, and then be like, oh ya, by the way, how much will it cost?

    • @iambuilders
      @iambuilders  Pƙed rokem +2

      That’s right. You gotta become buddies with your potential clients. There are times though that you can’t become buddies because you don’t have access to the decision-makers. You have to make a way to get in front of them and in the beginning it’s based on price. Later once you get to know the PMs and Supers, they’ll ask for you.

    For clarification, your 0 markup strategy with change orders is focused on new client work as a marketing strategy and not necessarily as a repeat client strategy correct? I woukd feel more comfortable doing this with small tixket item job like a $10,000 remnant project to get the foot in the door.

    • @iambuilders
      @iambuilders  Pƙed 3 měsĂci

      Yes. Essentially giving them a trial. The issue is they don’t really know your quality so they don’t know what they’re paying for once you get the first job, and maybe even the second, you HAVE TO exceed expectations and over deliver, otherwise it doesn’t work. Meaning get ahead of schedule, and help them sequence their job, offer value engineering, ideas, etc.

    Hey man this channel is gold. I just came across your CZcams and I have to say it's exactly what I've been searching for. Your understanding of the industry and insights into the financial aspect of building and designing projects are truly inspirational. As a young man pursuing a career in architecture, I've been working in construction with my dad since I was 15. I would love to have a call with you if possible at all to seek your advice and guidance on navigating the construction industry. Your experience in transitioning from an architect to helping contractors grow their businesses makes you the ideal person I've been looking to have the chance to talk to. I hope you can consider I know you have a business to run, and a conversation would certainly be enough to guide me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge through your videos, will definitely keep watching regardless.

      Hey sure of course. Do you have an existing business? I have a training program where I teach contractors how to grow their business. Is that something that would interest you?

    • @joaquib2723
      @joaquib2723 Pƙed rokem

      @@iambuilders Yeah man. The business exists. There's a lot that needs to be restructured and a lot of real-world in-field info I know I need to help operate things better. I did check out the programs you have available I don't know how well I qualify or if I can afford it on my own right now. I am interested and eager, but given the situation, I'd appreciate a call for some general info and guidance. I hope something can be possible. A bit of your time.

      Hey Sydney. What’s do you mean?

  • @AtlasGutterSystems
    @AtlasGutterSystems Pƙed 6 měsĂci +1

    My opinion is that the idea seems good but customers usually dont like when the price changes on them. And customer satisfaction should always be a priority. We as contractors should just bid propertly for a modest profit and make sure we cushion our proposals incase of any curveballs. I cant take a job knowing im even, most likely even negative before even starting.

    • @Lockewoodmedia
      @Lockewoodmedia Pƙed 4 měsĂci

      I agree. Transparency and good customer ethics is the highest priority for our companies because of the well-known issue the field has for mistrust and shady operators. Ultimately it is a matter of karma, do good and it comes back to you or do bad and it comes back to you.
