Nothing stops them - Greg and Katie! Log a SLIGHT bit heavy for the tractor to lift and keep the rear wheels close to the ground. There is always a solution - cut the first slab off with a chain saw EASY! If man has not ever done it before, Greg will still find a solution and eventually it works! Lift the log on the saw - just watch me! And we sit on the edge of our chairs, ready to jump off should things go wrong! Stay safe Greg - remember I am 84 years old and don't want to fall off my chair and hurt myself. But your barn is looking fantastic and you may be proud of what you have accomplished in getting this far for providing shelter for your animals! They will be very comfortable and well cared for. And your work has been a constant work of love and devotion! Thanks for making it possible for us to watch it all!!
I put 4 of those hinges on a door that size. Lasts longer and no maintenance. 😁

Y'all killed it on that Barn. That looks good enough to live in it to me great job. You know the symbol that you have with the goat when you introducing y'all's channel how to make two of them and put on your door that'd be killer bad.
Definitely need to put one of your 3pt attachments on the back for ballast and safety. It will make your front axle and bushings last longer.

Love the split door build idea. They both turned out very nice 👌. Greg is the master giant log slayer, hauling it on 3 wheels and still gets it to the mill. Stay safe you both and hope the kids come soon ❤.
We know how you feel about building with your own lumber. Our home was built using 80 year old white pine and hemlock from our property milled by a local Amish sawyer for us. We've also made a lot of our own furniture using pine, maple and cherry from our property as well. It's so amazing going from that rough cut to that first or second plane pass and see the grain begin to pop.
Hey Greg, don't hurt your yourself trying to rotate those monster logs on the mill. Instead, get a piece of chain with a hook on it that is just a bit smaller than the hook on your cant hook. Make sure the chain is long enough to go around the fattest log and over the forks on your tractor,. Be sure to slide it back by the mounting rack where it's strongest. Next, wrap the chain around the log and hook the hook into the log, not into the chain. When you lift up the forks the log will roll the log the direction of the wrap. Sort of like wrapping the string on a yo-yo. I had a winch mounted on a beam up in the rafters of my mill shed and I had a hook I attached to it to accomplish the same thing.

hello you guys I have an important Tip for you all the logs, small or large perhaps you knew this or maybe not but I would like to let you know the importance of peeling all of your logs because if you don’t because of bacteria that live under the bark rotting takes place much quicker, which intern creates a lot of problems later on so I thought I would pass this on to you how important it is to peel all of your logs no matter the size.

What you need on the tractor is a 55 gal drum on the rear of your tractor filled with rocks or gravel as a counter weight so your tractor can handle the heavy logs , naturally attach it so it can be removed as necessary!

oh the barn is looking so good, really nice, winter comes it is going to be so cozy and snuggley... for the triangle above the doble doors, l would put the same transparent material as this little roof, so that the light still enteres and it will look nice with the same roof... it is so nice to see all the animals running and hopping around so happy, espacialy the dogs
I was just thinking the same thing... how nice it would be to let light through that triangle, giving you a glimpse of the sky from inside your beautiful new barn.

For a latch for the big door you could have floor joists stretching the length of the door with hand made heavy duty holds on both ends and one each in the middle 😊

Retired Hydroelectric worker here. Back in the day we used Western red cedar for poles and Douglas Fir for cross arms. Strong and weather resilient.
You say Katie is beside herself, so this is a perfect time for you to get her help on another project because all three of you can get even more done then just the two of you. I will now watch the rest of the video and see if that's what you do !! Katie times two is a big win for you Greg !
What you two achieve is fantastic - the transformation of the barn - the pens the new doors. No need for more wood at the store - just pop down the track and pick up part of a tree and pop it on the mill and there is you restocked. Great enjoyment and jealousy as far to old to even think of doing some small projects that you do - Also no access to forests like your here in Central France- Thanks for the quality of your videos.

That's an outstanding barn. Love all the colors. It pops in your eyeballs looking at it. All your personal flavors are now embedded in your barn. The goats are stubborn, not delivering the kids. Guess they wanted to wait for a cozy barn. You can put a solar generator in there at night and hook up a portable heater system. A couple extra hinges on that big door. I have a friend that built a 16 pole barn all out of old telephone poles, all the wood was from them he found a person with a mill that did all the wood for half the wood! His job was to replace telephone poles that had woodpecker damage! All cedar it’s a beautiful barn!
The work you have done on this place and the barns are tastefully done it's really quiet extraordinary what all you have accomplished together.

Barn/shop is looking great. The reverse board and batten look on the doors works well. FYI- the sound cut out at the 16:30 mark for about two minutes, right up to cutting the two tractor doors apart. A little pucker factor involved bringing that big ass log to the mill. (I'm talking about me.) To rotate the big logs on the mill, used a strap wrapped around the log and let it rotate as you lift with the tractor forks. Mitchygloss just adopted this method on her latest video. Thanks for bringing us along.

Suggestion: Have the doors open outwards so you have space inside the door. Especially if you have a quad/tractor going in. The door will take up alot of (swing) space. Yes snow may be an issue in the winter so that may be a consideration.

Greg, can you do a simple ""Sliding Barn Door""? Sliding to the side allows for more usable room. Just a
thought. Boy! Have never seen a tractor do High stepping before like yours did moving that log. Spooky
stuff that is! Specially on that steep slope. I consider each log like that a real treasure. Think of all the

I’d recommend placing more hinges on those doors. Those are long lever arms working against the hinges.

Watching you get value added with the LT10 is fantastic, i have just started using an LT 40 which leaves me very impressed with your work, its labor intensive but effective and economical
The goats look happy
Having a dirt floor, worries me, as a predator can dig in. Either dig a trench and pour some concrete in it, or, if you have some rebar or other steel laying around(not that you have a pile of stuff or two LOL) drive it in so if the dig, they run into it. it wouldn't stop them, but will cause more issue/take too much time to get in, and they will give up, or, the dogs would wake you in time to run it off.
That won't be the last big log you have to drag I am sure. Build you some dollies to put up under one end, then the tractor will only need to lift half of it. Or rig you up an "Alaskan saw mill" That uses a chainsaw(You can use a ladder for that type of mill) That way, you won't waste any usable lumber.

Use a chain and the tractor three point hitch , lift on rear and drag the log, becareful not to overload hydraulics when using the forks. The barn looks very nice and doors are awesome. You could finish nail scrap wood in a fan pattern above entry.

When you get a log to heavy use the 3 point hitch. Wrap a chain around one end of the log, lower the 3 point hitch all the way down and hook the chain on. Make the chain as short as possible and lift the hitch and end of the log off the ground and drag it to the mill.
Maybe you should consider getting(or making your own) Alaskan saw mill setup which allows you to saw oversized timbers in place. An adze would be helpful hewing the big ones as well. You guys are two very industrious people, and you have made incredible strides on your property.

You need to look at adding a weight box to the rear of the tractor . so you can pick up the really heavy logs . The double door you built for the barn worked out great and the lumber had great looking grain. Hope the kids come soon

Hi Greg and Katie, Love your channel and your aspirations that seem to be coming to fruition in superb ways. Just a suggestion regarding heavy logs, if you put a chain round the end of the log then loop the chain round the forks and secure it then you are only be lifting half the logs weight then lift it to clear the ground and tow it in reverse so only the tail end of the log will be in contact with the ground. Congratulations on the extension to the barn it is beginning to look more like a lovely Cabin after the work and thoughts that the both of you have given to it. One other thought about the doors is the amount of swept floor space that you lose by having them open inwards.

I like Douglas Fir also. That was the prominent wood available at the supplier in AZ back in '82. I used Douglas Fir to build my daughters bunk beds and also built many things/furniture for the house out of it to. All came out nice. It is soft though. Barns coming right along.
You REALLY need a counter weight on the back of that tractor. The heaviest 3 point attachment you have will work pretty well. That chipper looks heavy enough to be useful.
