Mix your pig feed with water and let it set for a day. They like it wet and gain more weight. It is no more work once you get the routine set up.
We had a dairy and would mix bad milk and spilled or waste feed together and our pigs loved it. We also gave them scraps from the house and pork chop bones were one of their favorite items to eat, go figure 😅
My Dad did the same thing, it also cuts down on the feed dust.
as a 26 year old guy who's working towards day in and day out to hopefully one day achieve this life style, i really enjoy watching this channel in the meantime. CVA is living my dream and every video is an inspiration to me to keep working so one day i can afford land, and cattle, and equipment to do what him and becca are doing
Take Jesus with you as you work ... Time is running out for this world.
The place is really looking good for sure. Cleaning the fence line has made a big difference.
My Favorite Channel to watch - just a Natural in front of the Camera - Learn so much from You guys
I love how you treat your animals. Happy animal make life easier.
Hope your enjoying your retirement as much as I am, enjoying seeing more videos. The place is really coming together.
You seem so much happier since you left your job, we always see you smiling now even though you're busting your butt working. Keep up the good work and God bless!!
The post pounder on the loader makes that job much easier. That was a good buy
I often put my fertilizer on at half rate and go over it twice. It’s called a split application. It makes more even coverage and lets you know your settings are correct before you put 3x (or more) fertilizer on than you intend. It works well on smaller acreages but wouldn’t be practical on larger farms. Love to see your progress. Keep up the good work and we enjoy your videos.
So much work ! It will be so nice in the end !! I LOVE YOU BOTH !!! 🥰 🥰
Fertilizer sure is a touchy topic, also iv noticed how many professionals there are in the comments.
I like how you made a Duck weed trap on the pond bank using hay bales. That was cool. I think you should try it again.
Evan if you can get corn or wheat cheap in bulk, try this with your pigs. Get a clean metal or plastic barrel and fill it about half way with rain water and then add a corn or wheat or mixed corn wheat blend to the water and let it soak so that the water stays about an inch or two above the grain. It will begin to ferment and smell a bit and then feed it to your pigs. They will love it. My grandfather used to feed that to his pigs and it has almost a beer smell to it. He also bought a huge cache of old civil defense crackers sealed in tins and fed that to his pigs as well. They loved it. Any food stuff canned or fresh you can get from stores or supermarkets makes good added food for your pigs. Ask your family and friends to save items they will throw out and have them ask their local grocer if they have expired items they can no longer sell. Pigs get a wealth of benefits from things that can still be eaten by them.
I would mix soybean meal in my sloop
Hi Evan, I like what you do as a young farmer. Keep it up
It's looking better around there every day Evan. You two are doing a great job as usual. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there too. Fred.
I usually put 200lbs to the Acer on my way and pastures. Looking at your hay fields they need some lime
Here in N central Ohio saturation of like is 6 ton per acre. Sure makes a difference.
Thanks for posting Evan
I don't mean to be critical but driving a farm tractor, we would spend 50% of the time looking to the rear of the tractor at the implement to make sure everything was working properly. That's the difference between driving a tractor and a car.
I totally agree, its amazing how many dont
Thanks for sharing Evan 👍🏻
Get a bit of Phosphorous and Potassium in there as well. You want your hay as nutrient dense as possible for your livestock and it will grow better as well.
Looking forward to see you putting up the fence.
Ive been watching older videos all afternoon, thanks Evan and Rebekah
Thanks again for your video mate and all the best to you all always
Thanks Evan. I need to go ahead and purchase a three point hopper spreader. I have been putting it off way way too long. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work.
Smart idea getting the internal wheel. Had to order that as an extra on mine. They say you can change the flow on those, left, right,or back but never had much luck with that. Pray for rain, that urea will burn it up quick. Normally add to mine in early April for first cutting.
Well done as always, love seeing more videos as you bring everything together
Thanks Evan ! Stay cool!
Thanks Evan.
Great job keep up the good work love your videos thank you
Yessir looking good stay Cool!
I have used a small bolt and wingnut or a pin with holes in it and a cotter pin on that adjustment multiple times.
It’s real now!!!! Thank you Evan. Great work!
Looking good around the farm. You've done alot! Keep up the good videos. Enjoy watching them.
Another great video, God Bless y'all. John V. Michigan. 🙏🇺🇸❤️🗽🦅
I was just sitting here looking at you I do not shave every day now it’s to much work Ha Ha farm looking good!
Right. When my husband retired, he said he could go caveman if he wanted to now and since he has worked so hard, I have to agree with him..
Enjoyed your video with my coffee this morning. Thank you for sharing.
10:08 you said you feed your pigs eggs. There is research that this actually inhibits them gaining weight because of something in the eggs.
Great channel!
Thanks @FernwehRanch
Hello Evan enjoyed your video have a great day.
You are so much more tanned now that you are “retired”. 🇨🇦❤️
Well watched your Video as always. Thanks and good luck everytime..~~
Looking Good. 😊
Love watching❤.
I know it's not your spreader but those 'distribution vanes' on the spreader plate are adjustable. They have a few different holes to change their angle. The manual shows you what way to move them if it's only throwing to one side or the other. Good work!
Great successes 👍👍👍
Looking good
I have the same power washer. Perfect for foam cannon car washing. I do have an adapter that I attach between drive and hose so I can use the more “standard” size connector. And I see you found a second universal truth - everything is a rake!
Karcher brand ?
We spread on ours CAN fertelizer or sometimes NPK 15-15-15 when he have left some from corn planting or sudangrass. For Soghum Sudangrass we are using urea and NPK mixed tougether and disc that in ground and after it regrow after week CAN over it
Great job
Evan like the video And have good day .
🍸 HAHA! When I first glanced at your thumbnail I thought that’s the biggest strawberry margarita I’ve ever seen 🍸
😂👁️ Eye Confusion
I put 7 Amur in my pond in fall 1989, they lived until late winter 2016. They all measured 34" long, did not measure girth, but they were close to 6" from eye to eye. They ate full grown cattails with no problem & consumed all but the brown at top of plant. Restocked Spring 2016, these are fully grown and 1/3 smaller & do not eat cattails, unless i cut & throw in pond. They do not have the appetite of the previous fish. Pond is only 1/4 acre @ 8' depth . I spray as much grass clipping into the water, every time i mow. It takes them a day or two to consume. Obviously genetics are involved, so you may need to add "a lot more Amur" to eradicate your substantial problem. Hope this helps & congrats to getting out of the rat race and doing your own thing. btw restocked as all originals died .
Thx
Good New job
GREAT VIDEO!! Thanks for the candid way you share your work style!! Just a note: I'm eager to see your work on a fueling station. Have you done this on a previous video or is it forthcoming?? Thanks for sharing!😀
Evan, pure Nitrogen is not the Solution for your Hayfields. Look for the Potassium and Phophorus content in the soil. Check it in the lab, so you can apply the right fertilizer in the right amount.
Hope you get some rain now, 1-2" to desolve and push that fertilizer into the ground ! We have dry summers here so we put some down in the fall after last cutting to encourage fall root growth.
Looking at this, knowing that there is almost a nitrogen ban overhere in the Netherlands due to environmental reasons. Crazy times. Great video once again.
Working on the dream
TFS
Place looks great. I like using a battery powered sawzall with a wood blade to cut roots. A lot less effort.
yea, am sure it would be. but that never occurred it me.
My wife said the spreader looked like a giant martini glass! Lol
Evan duckweed is an excellent source of nitrogen and it is free. Wish you could find a way to put it on your field
He has pumped it out before, Evan why not skim the surface of your pond while watering your pastures?
@@greggandjanetprice3851 That was hard work though when Evan removed it last time, Duckweed regenerates very quickly and it thrives in nitrogen rich water, so by taking it out you would be removing the excess nitrogen from the water.
Please seriously consider wearing a mask N 95 would be best, your lungs will thank you in the future you’re nurse wife should be able to show you what works best and is most comfortable. Enjoy the channel, keep on keeping on ,blessings to you and yours
I swear every time I see the thumbnail on this video it looks like you’re leaning on a giant strawberry margarita 😂 I had to come back in and say
A farmer's work is never done, no matter what type of farm he/she has. Crazy how the weather changes from year to year. You look busy and happy, which I am very thankful for and I hope any coming interruptions are minimal. Good for you.
Although I imagine that you did well at spreading, I wonder if when you are desiring to find out how much fertilizer is being put out, how evenly and how far, if you could try placing cut off containers (like cut off milk bottles/not real deep) spaced evenly out in a straight line and then drive perpendicular between them at the speed you want to go. Then you could check the containers to see how far the fertilizer is spread, the direction and how even it is. Wind is a factor as well. I have no experience, so have no right to suggest this, but I have seen it done by larger farms.
My husband even has problems putting fertilizer on the lawn. There is a foot wide by 6 inch deep area that he ended up burning off when he didn't check the spreader and he gets reminded of it whenever he walks out the door because it is right there. I'm really not complaining, because I know I would do a much poorer job. It is just the way life is.
YOU definitely need to TEST your hay grazer feed if you put nitrogen on it!!!!! we turned some cattle in to a pasture that had some johnson grass in it once. a big steer ran out and took one bite and DROPPED from the prussic acid in it!! the nitrogen in the feed can be just as deadly especially when stressed
Agree about the pressure washer, bought one about 8 years ago, dont know how I got along without it.
Thanks for sharing,, always enjoy your videos..👍
Duckweed makes awesome compost. Just saying!
Evan, how can you do duck and turkey chores without the required flip flops?
Get a good start on that farmers tan!
Did you have a soil test? May not need any N looks like one of my hay fields. I had a compaction problem .
The pressure washer comes in handy. Is it gas or battery, I couldnt see?
I wonder if it would kill 2 birds with one stone if you cleaned the fertilizer container in a grass area. That way, that area would get water and fertilizer and improve the soil and grass in that area? The stone driveway doesn't need any encouragement to grow things, LOL
Did I miss the video when you did soil testing to know what the fields needed? I hear duckweed is a good nutrient/ fertilizer? You could clean some of the pond and try putting the duckweed out somewhere on your property and see what happens?
Hi, how's your garden doing?
I missed what names Rebecca gave the pigs this year, can you tell me please? Thank you.
We will try to share it in an upcoming video.
Did you do soil test before applying the fertilizer? You may need something other than nitrogen to grow good quality hay.
yes, we did a soil test. And we added potash in the spring.
Get an air boat for the duck weed and blow it to somewhere you can pick it up🤷
Spreading fertilizer made me think about your livestock shed and all that gravel in there. You’re going to accumulate quite a bit of manure in there this winter and will likely end up spreading quite a bit of gravel on your fields.. maybe something to get prepared for.
👍👍👍
Put some tilapia in your pond. They will die off in the cold IL winter. Plus there a good eating fish
Thanks 👍
👏👏
I thought when u talked to Pete from "Just a Few Acres" he had a cure for your duck weed
He was being sarcastic, I probably shouldn't have put it in the video. Several people thought he was being serious. We didn't come up with a solution.
Just a word of advice may want to invest in a mattock if you have to bust many more roots, saves your axe from the dirt
If you have alot of legumes in the hay field you probably didn't need urea ,you probably/may have been better putting phosphorus and potash on it.
Hope you get some rain so that urea doesn't dissipate on you.
Tilapia might help with the duck weed
Sorry, I'm no expert but I don't understand how spreading just urea is going to rebuild/regenerate your soil. Wouldn't manure/compost be better? It might take longer but in the long run you'd have stronger soil.
Its not to rebuild or regenerate the soil. Its a pelletized fertilizer. It adds nitrogen to the soil in a slower release as rain falls it breaks down the pellets to feed nitrogen into the soil to help green up the grass/feed on the field. It doesnt really do anything for the soil, its more for the plants growing in the soil. Since its pelletized it takes longer to get into the soil, sorta like a time release. If too much urea is put on an area in to high a percentage with grass or other plants it can actually kill out or 'burn' the plants and cause the opposite of what you want to happen. Pelletized fertilizer is helpful in that it is slower to absorb and release into the soil for the plants to uptake it through their roots.
Understood, but every time you take off a crop of hay you remove far more than just some nitrogen. You rob the soil, making it that much poorer for future crops. Better to build the soil than deplete it.
Good luck on the fencing, but after watching you work, I know that it will be done right.
leave the nitrogen and get super phosphate did you do a soil test and grass test for the nitrogen needs
💖💖💖💖🙏
My golf course superintendent uses a spreader that has a tube underneath. It moves back and forth like the tail of a dog.
Have you seen the wild baby duck since it went to the pond
Duck weeds good for your chickens and ducks
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤
They are so good BUT TOO SHORT 😢
We the next video, building fence, is going to be a long one.
What happened to your dogs..? Haven’t seen them in A while…
When they are out they need you full attention, or they get bored and get themselves in trouble. So I can't have them running around while I work on projects. But they are fine.
I would be interested to hear if the nitrogen makes a difference in those 6 acres of hay fields.
This is the first time I have putting down nitrogen. So I am interest to see the results as well.
Looks great. Hope everything goes well at the dentist.
I had to Fillings that broke off. Now I have to go back and get them fixed.
@@CountryViewAcres sorry to hear that. Take care of them before they start hurting.
@@CountryViewAcres Yuck. Sorry.
I was thinking about putting some nitrogen on my hay fields, I don't have a spreader also a little more than three thousand pounds, so if I do it I will probably have to use a spreader buggy. Lots of work coming with the fencing, good luck with it. Have a great evening!
