- In the late 19th century, a group of brave women working at the Bryant and May match factory in east London decided to take a stand against poor treatment from their employers. With the help of a woman named Annie Besant, and against all the odds, the Matchgirls won several concessions - and inspired future workers to discover the power to improve working conditions.

We all need to know this sort of history. Workers who work together in solidarity are the main limit on business who will do what is cheapest for business. Trade unions can bring democracy to the work place.
Not sure the Rights are taken for granted much because we should have always had them, but I agree we should know the story and who we should thank
The best Channel ❤
Great video Luke! We are a charitable organisation raising funds for a statue to honour the Matchgirls and their victorious 1888 Strike
Great cause - and here's their website! www.matchgirls1888.org
Wonderful!

A unique, informative channel with great humour.
Absolutely delighted to subscribe. Love the emails with info told in an engaging way. Can’t wait to see the channel grow.
After watching Enola Holmes 2 I watched a couple of videos about the match girls strike and yours was the best! 👍🏻❤️
Hey! I was just gonna mention Enola Holmes 2 as well! 😁
We use this channel as a fantastic home education resource for our ten year old twins Trinity and Aphrodite! So engaging -they watch these with enthusiasm!Thank you 😊
That's great to hear, Sarah! They're very welcome to the Radical History Channel family! Perhaps they'll have some topic ideas of their own at some point?
Thank you !I’m sure they would love to give you some ideas we have a rich history in our home town of Frome! We are currently finding out about are local contemporaries of the Luddites who rioted and tried to burn the new looms in our town centre- but were herded into the back yard of the pub I work in now and arrested by forty musket wielding special constables! The girls are trying to get some other children to join in a re-enactment with them! 😊
@@sarahgooding7785 That re-enactment plan sounds amazingly fun!! Do consider sharing a video on the Radical History Facebook group! (search 'radical history' on Facebook - I don't run it but it's a great community of interested people!)
who's here after enola Holmes lol
You miss out how thr factory owners and Annie Besaant were both fabians and more, I did a doc on this and I'd happily debate you as you're algorithmicly booted to misdirect the public
