This Chrysler Town and Country came into the shop on a tow truck. The customer states vehicle makes loud clicking grinding and banging noise, and the transmission does not go into gear. When they try to drive then engine starts and runs but only revs when they try to drive. There are warning lights on the dash as well. Using the scan tool, we looked into the fitted systems for trouble codes and found little direction as the DTC's were unrelated to the transmission or engine. We did find a tire pressure warning light on due to TPMS sensors not communicating. Using the lift, we raised and supported the visual for visual inspection. Placing the vehicle in drive with the engine running while raised on the lift, we found the problem! The van has some driveline damage including a torn CV Axle boot. The other axle didn't look as good! We found a CV joint was broken in half. The bearings in the cv axle were destroyed and the axle was no longer connected to it's shaft. The customer was contacted and quoted to replace both CV axle shafts.
The repair began by removing the wheels and tires, followed by the outer tie rod ends. The tie rod was easily disassembled with a hammer. The steering strut was then unbolted from the strut to avoid disassembly of the lower ball joint. This allowed removal of the CV Shaft without removing the steering knuckle. After the steering was disconnected, both CV axles were removed and we waited for parts to be delivered. The new Axles were compared to the original units to be sure the fitment was correct and were then installed into the transmission and the steering was reconnected.

Yeah New Hampshire is around 40° right now that's where I'm at crazy
Totally agree with you they have been getting longer I don't know kind of weird
But you are correct about that I've never seen the crankshaft just break like that that's a new one
I think it's just cuz you're a lot of them you do in fast forward like at the very end when you're doing the other wheel
Yeah hello here from Maryland. It's gonna be getting up into the 70s today so yup
If they don't know what the high beam indicator is they need their license revoked.
For sure. These kids nowadays are soooooo stupid, nothing surprises me anymore.
Not only that, they should remain indoors and not allowed out.
In Germany, it would likely happen.
Its done on purpose to bait the cops into stopping them so they can video them, hope that helps.👍
@@stevenleslie9711 Yes, My Mercedes has auto dimming, but for that to work, it means the high beams are always on. (but not activated). Driving, I can see that the high beams activate automatically, if the car's cameras or sensors does not pick up any oncoming headlights. Don't know what would happen if those sensors fail, though.
Thank you, I hate idiots running highbeams on and tailgating.
I turn my internal mirror to reflect their lights back at them. They either back off or turn their lights back to normal.
@@tmd63that doesn’t help when they are coming towards you
Also the eternal turn signal!!
@@tmd63 I used to have a hand-held spotlight that I would blast into my mirror to aim at the drivers who tailgated. I was a jerk, but I was also never rear-ended.
-
But the worst are the lifted trucks with those eyeball-burning blue headlights and constant high-beams.
I am sure that most people who lift their trucks do not then have their headlights re-aimed properly either.
Stop driving in the passing lane and you won't get tailgated
"Personally I blame the parents." Priceless banter Ray!
Hi Ray, 30, 45, 1hour, part 1 - 2 - 3, this is NO problems. I, and surely many others, enjoy these long videos. We get to see the whole process and how you solve problems along the way. I dislike videos of other people saying "now we're going to take this part out", and then cut the video and the part is out! Okay? HOW? So keep up the long videos 👍 Love from Norway 🇧🇻
I do believe that most viewers appreciate the longer videos and the work involved in editing them.
You don't speak for everyone, stop trying to.
@johnt.848 I said that I believe most viewers appreciate them. I didn't claim to speak for everyone. And I certainly don't claim to speak for someone who doesn't understand that distinction.
@@fartzinacan You inferred most, when I can counter that claim by stating I believe most viewers prefer the shorter 30 minute videos, without evidence. Do I have to dumb it down for you?
@@fartzinacan people just need to find something to argue about. dont mind the trolls.
@teflarkevlon1948 oh, that little guy? I'm not worried by that little guy.
I always enjoy watching Ray's videos. Short, long, two or more on the same repair always entertaining and educational. Love wife unit's videos as well. Keep up the good work
I went back and looked at your videos from some years ago and back then you did not go into the diagnoses and the repair in as much detail.
The fact that you are going into more detail has saved me a lot of time and money working on my own cars and trucks. Thanks for the great channel.
For a new shop, you have an amazing clientele list. Busiest shop I’ve ever seen in the first couple years of operation. Congratulations.
Pit Bull dogs are not banned in England but the XL Bully is. There have been a number of fatal attacks, so it makes sense.
I appreciated the blue light tutorial. You could offer an advanced course on "turning on headlights". It is amazing how many cars I drive up on at night with no tail lights on because they are using just their daytime running lights for night driving. (And they are driving 60 mph in the left hand lane, but that would be a graduate level course.)
👏👍
I learned to drive in Florida and went to college in Nebraska and I used to call NE the “drive slow on the left state”. Advantage of learning in FL was you learn to watch out for different driving styles because tourists come from locations with different driving practices and habits, which can often make you need to stay on your toes. Snowbirds with Quebec tags tended to be the worst overall in my experience - it was almost like they were sent south to enjoy the winter weather and save Canadian lives.
I was driving in heavy fog at night last month and came upon two separate vehicles with the daytime lights on and NO TAIL LIGHTS. Visibility was about 20 feet. Fun times!!!
what's next, "pressing the ignition button to start your car?"
Turn signals. When to use them and how to turn them off.
Ray, I've been a police officer for 38 years, and the number of people I've stopped for driving with their high beams on is staggering. This seems to have started just in the last year or two. These people legitimately do not even comprehend what high beams are, I try to explain it and they get this deer in the headlights look. They just don't understand what high beams are.
That is frightening John but I am not really surprised. Since there are so many people out there who don't take the time to learn what seems like basic things, it makes me wonder where they are putting all their mental effort.
Sheeple
Ray you’re correct we have banned American pitbulls in England but only after some tragic attacks involving children and adults.
The public mainly Agree with the bans and understand it’s often the owners to blame. Especially when the dog’s being used as an extension of the owners aggression.
Also, the thing was whipped up into a panic by some newspapers, as is custom since time immemorial.
It's the kind of people who typically get American pitbulls that are the problem.
Keep the longer format. I sit behind a computer all day but use to be a heavy diesel mechanic so living vicariously through you atm.
As a newly minted C-Tech I love the length of the videos I watch them like Educational Entertainment. You've helped me multiple times on a single video before so please don't cut out anything I could learn to help me better help the people in my area.
I LIKE THE LONG VIDEOS RAY!
Who else likes long videos???
OMG, thank you for the high beam PSA. One of my adult daughters, who went to a private driving school, didn't know how to toggle them. For a good while, she thought her lowbeam headlights had burned out because turning the knob twice resulted in highbeams coming on. 🤦🏻 I saw on another channel the lamenting of the loss of public education driver's ed courses that us Gen Xers and before had to take. The amount of bright lights here in AZ is a testament to that loss of education. Of course, I did turn it into a teaching moment.
They are letting the parents certify them in Texas!OMG!😱 I was going to teach my son but after him running over two curbs and turning the corner at 30 mph I said " I will pay for you to go to drivers ed school"😱😱
@@wallychambe1587 30 on a turn o.o
Ray, we want the longer videos, these videos are what i personally look forward to every morning, keep up the great content. 👍
He will upload long and short videos.
Ray, the reason I still watch this channel is because, regardless of the length of the video, you give enough attention to the details that are important for someone who may be about to attempt the same diagnostic and repair process....
On This Channel proper tech practices aren't only followed , they are taught as well.
You mean YOU and others with no life want long videos to fill in their boring and pointless days.
@@johnt.848 OPINIONATED MUCH?
Opinions are like Anuses , everyone has one and they all stink.
FYI Watching long videos doesn't take any sort of life from you....
but alwaya being in a hurry does....
I usually "watch" the channel while working under a vehicle and short videos mean I have to actually go to the next video more often.. alao, I DON'T LISTEN TO MUSIC.
I HAVE REPLACED IT WITH MOSTLY EDUCATIONAL AND INFORMATIVE VIDEOS being a TECH myself that includes The Great Ones like RAY to help me remember to always l follow the tech's best practices and to K.I.S.S. every problem before pulling out the big guns.
@@jojomorgan8556 yours might stink, so speak for yourself. Also yelling in your reply doesn't make you right. If you have time to watch videos while under a car "working" then you aren't giving that task the 100% it deserves, try harder. Long videos detract from other things we could and should be doing, as you have just proven.
I've been retired for 15 years..I like to start my days now with the latest video (I discovered Ray a little over a year ago). I like them all, especially the longer ones.
I've got the hat, 2 t-shirts and a coffee mug. Love it!!
Amazing watching repair jobs on vehicles that don't deal with the harsh north-east salt/winters. 13 year old vehicle looks like a 6 year old one up here.....jealous.
Same in the UK. High beams on a lot of vehicles. Thank you for highlighting the problem.
Thanks for taking time to show us everything and explain what you're doing and why. As for the long videos, sometimes time takes time. In fact time takes time all the time!
Yes, until we find a way around it, time is a constant and positive-linear dimension.
😂😂😂😂😂
I love the LONG videos. More details. More information. More entertainment. Well worth my time.
3:49 THANK YOU for public service announcement I really appreciate that.
“They are not gonna not fix it right?”
Famous last words 😂
Dude, you are spot on with the High Beam renegades; they're right up there with the Left Lane hogs, the no-signal lane changers (you'd think Audis, Mercedes, and BMWs would at least come with turn indicators as standard equipment, but by my calculations that doesn't seem to be the case), and here in the Great White North (from the same family no doubt); the SnowBank driving no-clean-snow-off-car projectile launcher drivers!
South Dakota here, two weeks ago we were -24 degrees with a wind chill factor of -45 degrees. About 4 days ago the weather jumped up to the 40s, which is about equivalent to 70 degrees there, very comfortable and nice. Next week we’re looking at 54 degrees which is summer conditions. Although we still have snow on the ground, because during the week of freezing temperatures all the snow turned to ice.
Longer time is because you are explaining more about each step of your repairs. Your productions are really helping some of the guys and gals out there who need the tutoring.
i've seen axles broken like that. the customer always tries to say that there was no warning...but the fact is that this doesn't happen without it making noise for a long time.
You are not only a great mechanic , the video's you make are all " how To " videos . I feel I could take on some of these jobs by following the Video. Do not forget to have yourself a great day. All the best from the UK.
I love the longer videos!
Me too. I love the super long ones. They're really relaxing to watch
Your video lengths are fine Sir. They are in depth and impart much knowledge to those who watch and love them, like myself !
I've noticed that since you have become a business owner, your videos have increased in time quite a bit. I for one, truly appreciate the videos you have been creating as of late, due to the fact that you have been very in depth with your description of what it is you are doing and why. I find your videos very entertaining, as well as extremely instructional and ask that you please continue down this path of "Instructional Repair Videos". As always Ray, we will support you no matter what you decide to do. After all Bro, we are just like a good shop dog.....Loyal As Hell!!!!
Don't listen to the naysayers Ray. We love the longer vigias with more detailed repairs, commentary and comedy, especially with the skits and guest appearances (wif unit, Dave etc) lol. Even though I know how to do most of the stuff you do, I still watch looking for tips, tricks and different methods to improve and learn about new things (like the 3.6L oil cooler job)..... Because one never stops learning!
Keep being Awesome!
I can relate. Don't put your high beams on just because! You're suppose to use them when you're having a hard time seeing the road. Even the manual for the car says when to use them.
Ray, I don't think any of us mind long videos. I love watching them because A) I'm not a car person, I just follow the instructions in the manual in terms of fluid exchanges and B) Every video you upload teaches me a little bit extra, hopefully, enough to not get ripped out. I learned the difference between coolant leaks vs oil leaks, when both get combined and leak, how to do a quick check if my brakes pads are ok or if I need new ones, take care of a part that only has surface rust that I can clean with anti-rust agents with a wire brush and then "paint" them with an anti-rust coating, among many things that I'm willing to recognize "I don't have the skillset for this, I'll take it to a mechanic to get it fixed".
Just my humble opinion. You have a gift to explain something I would find complex in a simple way, and I'm a moron!
Wow, that's some brutal front end work. Bravo!
..fast going there, Ray. The Caravans are among the easiest cars to change the driveshafts.. I always but a good dab of grease on the inner and outer splines to aid the shaft sliding in and also to hinder corrosion making possible future dissasembly a hard task, especially where roads are salted in winter..
I think the length of video is related to the freedom to record without fear of catching other employees, customers or random pedestrians. You're also doing more work, better work, and having an overall more enjoyable time while doing it.
I can only speak for myself, but I enjoy the longer videos. I would not even be upset if you decided to only put out a video every two days, if they were two or more hours long! They don't even need to be highly edited, just strap a goPro to your hat and go ham!
It’s 5:12am and 53° F here in the U.K.
Morning Ray.👋🏼
6:38am currently and 23f here in Narvik
Buffalo, New York here, we got dumped on with over 70” of snow and had single digit temps with wind chills well below zero and wind gusts up to 70mph causing extreme whiteouts at times. It was like this for a week straight for us and being right off Lake Erie which was not frozen the storms just kept dumping snow on us. Now this week it has been raining and combined with temps close 40, now we’ve had really bad flooding and road closures all over from creek and rivers over flowing.
I've been quite happy with the longer format videos. It's one of the reasons I watch your content; you actually include all the details explaining what you're doing and why.
Keep up the great work m8!
Ray , your videos are very informative and interesting, thank you for sharing them with us. As far as I'm concerned you make them as long
as you like. Those with a short attention span are in the minority, I feel shore. Stay well stay safe. Greetings to the wife unit.
Thank you for using your air impact wrench, the sound is ASMR for us old boys.
Eric O from South Main Auto uses exclusively air tools and makes great videos as a suggestion
🤦🏻
I hope the customer appreciates the fact that he/she got away with a cheap (potentially car scrap) repair.
Note: You have the aptitude to make a video entertaining.
RE: hi-beam indicator: I've always wondered if people made that mistake, but then I always think "people CAN'T be that stupid"....then I remember I work in IT and they, in fact, totally CAN be.
I HATE driving my car and usually opt for the SUV lately at night because of the number of idiots with high-beam/insanely bright lights. It's also always fun when I meet a jacked up truck with insane lights...and then I flash my hi-beams, and then they respond by MELTING MY CORNEAS with their actual high-beams. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, but headlights are getting insane/insanely dangerous.
My son is a physician. As part of his residency, they were actually encouraged to watch "House" and try to follow and speculate over the storyline. I've got to say as a mechanic wannabe, I have learned a lot from just watching your videos and trying to speculate how things come apart. Your videos have become longer, possibly because you do so much in real time rather than high speed camera work. I think one of the masters of mechanics is Faye Hadley, her videos are much shorter as she does high speed edits over mundane stuff like zapping bolts out. She doesn't have the color comments or as much instruction as you so that's the trade off. Eric O is similar in time as so much is real time. Keep up the videos and I'll learn automotive from the 3 of you.
One of the very first episodes of House has them performing an emergency 'tracheotomy' by cutting through the larynx (read: vocal chords). In real life, you can guess what that would mean. Suffice it to say: Don't believe everything you see. Failure to think critically is a big reason why people do.
Phenomena, do do do do. 2 days of rain and pea soup fog, mid 30's H/L's Wauconda.
Same in the mitten state!!!
Thanks for bringing attention to the high beam issue...much needed.
I used to run an auto parts store. People came in all of the time needing headlight bulbs. When I would ask ask high or low beam, they had no clue. You would be amazed at the blank looks they would give me.
Yes Ray, in the UK some breeds of dog that are recognised as abnormally dangerous have been banned for decades because of repeated attacks on people and animals. Pitbulls are on the list and justifiably so because they have been specifically bred for aggression. American Bullys have recently been added too. I am classed as a right wing voter and I resist unnecessary government intervention but in this case I 100% agree with the multi government (of all types) legislation.
But UK hasn't banned Muslims? Sheesh
I always take the strut bolts out. Just mark the front edge of the strut on the spindle and put it back in the same place if their is adjustability. I used to work at the Subaru factory in Lafayette Indiana and we put a glob of grease on that c clip on the inboard joint and it will slide in with ease. Great video have a great day as always
Ray, you have really gotten better at your judgement of socket sizes! 😂
Rainman Ray's Driving School now in session. Thank you many need to see that (we all need to share this with someone we know).
Hi Ray, I sometimes have to wait till the weekend to catch some of the longer videos but that’s not a criticism! I just don’t always have time to watch on the day they’re posted 🤷♂️ always worth waiting for. Keep doing what you’re doing. You can’t please everyone 🤷♂️👍
Hey you brought back the Brake Clean Sound effects!! Nice.
"assault wrench...banned in England" rolling on the floor laughing!!!
High beams, low beams. High beams low beams LOL. Teach the masses Ray. Thank you.
We thank you for the PSA.
I started my own repair shop a few years back and I use your videos to help me get it done quick and properly awesome...
Longer vids are fine, they make nice ones to sit down and watch
Knew immediately what the problem was when you put the van into gear Ray. Had a little Buick Skylark do it to me when I was in my 20s. Was driving along, made a horrid noise from the front end, then wouldn't go any longer and made that same exact noise when pressing the accelerator. Broken CV shaft. Wasn't my car, so didn't know there were issues with it like that. Found out the hard way, lol.
I’m not complaining I love you long videos. I learn a lot and makes my job a little easier when I have to do my own.
I turn the blue light on because it looks pretty.
Now when I see that rare oncoming driver who dims the brights before it becomes a problem, I see a Rain Man viewer.
I like the longer videos.... opens beer after work!!!
My husband and I enjoy the longer videos normally as soon as he comes in from work we sit down and watch your fabulous content so keep up the good work
The longer the better! Love the information provided and is inspiring me to work on more of my car. Keep rocking Ray!
Long videos are great. I enjoy seeing the details of the tear down and install.
Ooh boy!!
Grandma is out , doing hole shots!!!
In the minivan!!
Watching you over the last few years has given me the confidence to work on these newer cars some . I am old an school Navy mechanic when computers were still in the hands of their creators . LOL Going to attempt a thermostat change and radiator flush on our 2004 Chevy Venture soon here . Wish me luck !! Best to you and you family Sir and Thank You .
I think you’re right about the people driving around with their brights on and not knowing it. I also believe part of the problem a lot of people are buying LED bulbs with the highest Luman output imaginable and some don’t have the right light output or even a cut off line. They just shoot light all over the place especially depending on the housing. I have definitely noticed a lot more blinders out there.
Fantastic ray! You did it again! Thanks!!!
40 Degrees here in Denver, but for the Mile High City in January, that's SUPER warm!
When the polar Vortex hit, on the last day, it was actually colder in Denver than it was in Antarctica!!!
I had to laugh when I saw that broken axle. Stellantis strikes [out] again.🤣
I love the long videos! There is so much to learn in the videos. It’s hard to complain about that. Keep it up! 😀
THANK YOU!! For the high beam explanation to the folks driving around with them always on.
Absolutely love your video explaining what high beams do and the on and off was hilarious. Felt like you were trying to teach some kids how to operate a light switch. 😂 if you don’t know that blue light is a high beam light then you shouldn’t be driving
I really enjoy the long videos. Keep up the awesome work. I watch daily and its part of my morning routine.
Dont care if its 20 min or an hour and 20. I enjoy the daily Ray video. Your entertaining. Pay no mind to the REEEE people.
I initially thought this video was referring to the 3.6L V6 engine breaking in two. We have several Caravans at work that have many miles on them, however well maintained, with these engines and never a problem with the vehicles.
Ray, don't worry about the length of your videos. Since you started using the 4K HDR camera, I can't get enough of your videos on my 77" HDR TV. What a treat seeing everything so super sharp and super bright in full living color. It really improves the presentation dramatically. Very few people put out anything close to the quality of your videos, both in content and the beauty of the 4K HDR. Actually none of the channels I subscribe to offer this level of video quality. Everything is so easy to see. I used to watch your videos on my 1080P computer monitor. Not anymore. Great work as always in this episode. The customers will be thrilled to learn the tranny is fine and the repair was less serious.
Much needed PSA about high beams. Thanks Ray!
I’m in SW Washington. We are back to “norm” temps and rain. Last week was poop tho!
I absolutely love your longer videos that’s just more education we get keep up the great content you’re killing it
THANK YOU!!!!! for showing the difference with HIGH BEAMS and Low Beams while driving... I see that all the time.. Keep up the GOOD PSAs.
Just drove across the mid-west, temps dropped to -6 to -12. Horrible weather, multiple cars, trucks, semi’s jackknifed, rolled over, lots of ice and snow. I’m glad we made it home safely.
Love that you are awake, Ray. watching you in N Z.
Thanks for the explanation of the high beam indicator. A lot of people seem to always run high beams, even in fog.
Thank you for amending use of circumnavigation. Further correction are available. Re headlight woes, check out height of even low beam when being faced or tailed by monstrous truck.
Hey Ray, it snowed last night and cold this morning, but it is sunny and warmer, about 36 here in Wyoming right now.
It’s a blast watching your videos
There is no way of having too much of a good thing, love the videos keep them coming what ever length they are.
i kind of like the longer videos, they aren't boring and i just find them entertaining and informative.
Hey Ray. It's warmer in Toronto today than it was in Treasure Island last Saturday!
It is now high 30's here in Michigan and like 3 days of rain. We had almost a foot of snow a week ago. Now I can see some green grass in the front lawn.
Currently it’s -40f in Fairbanks Alaska… wish its was 82 here! Love your videos keep it up
Southern Minnesota. 2 weeks ago, -10°F. Today +36°F. No snow left.
Ray thank you so very much for addressing the Hi beam issue. Up here in Massachusetts, I see it multiple times every night driving to work. Keep up the great content.
Unusually nice this afternoon in SW Ontario, with sunshine and 41 F. Had rain overnight and sidewalks are mostly clear, which made for a nice walk.
There isn’t anyone watching YOUR videos who needs the high beam message but lord knows there are enough (fill in the blank)s that need that message.
