Totally, it I guess that’s what made them great musicians man, they were talented in a way that just dominated most of the population. True musical geniuses.
@@esspeecy Well that was the whole point of people getting into synths - you could sound great with very little musical knowhow or ability... Vince Clarke, Human League etc.. all very humble beginnings - they sure found a niche though. Some of the early human league stuff u can just tell they have no idea on song structure, typical composition approaches for instance - but it sure gave us some fun tunes :)
This was such a brilliant song, coming before full sequencing could be achieved with the ease it can be done today o a home computer. This song sounds free 40 years on.
It would Be nice if you could make the (chauffeur) sequence because he used the same set up for that also. He actually had a Space echo Roland For the reverb.
The flute-like lead part was played on the Jupiter 8. However, the arpeggio part that I am playing above was sequenced by Nick Rhodes on a Roland SH-2 with the CSQ-100 sequencer.
@@CraigScottFrost - you are wrong. Nick used exactly the SH-2 and CSQ-100 for "Save a Prayer". The Jupiter 4 was used for the first album. The Jupiter 8 and SH-2 was RIO. czcams.com/video/Bkq6a0hHof0/video.html
@@EnochLight You're correct on the gear for this song, but the arpeggiation in Rio is Jupiter 4 and Nick has said in interview that duplicating that sound requires a JP-4 as nothing else sounds exactly the same.
@@EnochLight The Jupiter 4 and the Jupiter 8, both where used in Rio album, the arpegiator in Rio was a Jupiter 4 and the arpegiator in Hungry like a wolf was a Jupiter 8, yes Nick Rhodes use a lot the JP-8 on that album but also use the Prophet 5 and many others including the SH-02.
@@EnochLight Thanks for this! Love how you have video of Nick actually saying exactly what he used for the song (the SH-2) and people on here are still claiming "fake news." LOL.
Original was a Roland Space/Echo Chorus unit I believe. Most any chorus will get you close, and I use the Space Echo setting on my Boss DD-500. Dead-on.
Hi Mark, It's just a stock delay plug-in pro-tools. I didn't put much thought into it, and as someone pointed out, it's really that not close what DD used on the original.
I don’t know who said what? But as a Duran Fan all my life. I’m very sure Nick with Andy’s help used both these instruments! Actually they came up with this together with Andy playing guitar! Nick did use these two for that sequence on save a prayer.
What new hardware synths would you recommend for new wave 80s retro stuff and why? I have an Elektron Analog 4, Microkorg and Moog Sub 37 right now and not sure if these can do the trick with the same settings or not.
I would recommend Dave Smith's Prophet 6 or the OB6. Both are great, but I use the Prophet 6 all the time! ... I love it's integration with Omnisphere and Luftrum designed a soundest which I think are fantastic for 80's retro stuff.
I owned an SH-2 for 17 years, I must say of the circa 30+ synths I've owned since 1984 it was actually one of the least impressive and is IMHO really overrated
Nick Rhodes is highly underrated he created this sound back in the 80s when he was barely in his 20s.
And without any substantial musical training too if I remember correctly
Look at Arcadia, the sounds he came up with back then. Very textured and lush

Underrtated??? What do you mean underrated? He is the sound of Duran Duran. I mean, Duran Duran. Then who is NOT underrated to you?

Indeed. You should check out Roger Waters from 1972 in the recording studio for On the Run
Masterpiece. Wow. No idea how you did this
He used subtractive synthesis. Just that.
It's exactly that. Right to the portamento at the end of the song. Well done ! :)
Synths and their programmers are amazing!
Damnnn.. an effext unit with portamento that's simpl, awsome
Spot on. Brilliant recreation 👏
🤯🤯🤯 So amazing.... Music is essential to the soul ☯️♥️🎶🎵🎧🎛️🎚️🎹🪩
Great recreation. Always wanted me a SH2 (or 09) since forever.
Had one, blew a fuse after a couple of days. Caveat Emptor about the old hard to repair stuff. Save yourself alot of trouble and get a new model
a victory of love
EXCELLENT VIDEO THANKS FOR SHARING IT
1:35 my favorite part
Exactly! The echo makes it come to life.
The greatest hits
Beautiful! ❤️

amazing stuff!
the original sound came from the Jupiter 8 but the SH-2 do the job, in reality he used the SH2 !!!cool

@@dklotz that's why the sound is exactly the same , thanks for the info.
@@dklotzyou mean Nick does your sequencing for you? Lucky guy!
Nailed it !
its around 3 synths layered, this is the one panned to the right
Wow cool! 👌
Nice
Awesome
niiiiiiiiiiice
Very Nicely done
This what Nick actually used to create the sequence!

great riff x
Something is not right with the delay.
Cool
👏👏👏🎶muito bom cara você explicou tudo sem falar um a palavra interessante 🎹🎹
nice job!!
Please more Reverb.
1:34 Would you mind to explain the FX part, please? Obviously you are adding a "delayed" Signal to get the final sound. Thanks in advance.

oooh thats a nice looking mixer, whats the brand?
it's a controller Euphonix MC MIX
what are you adjusting at 1:34?
I’m adding a delay
@@dklotz OK thank you
so fuckin good
David when you raise the slider on the controller. What is that spread of sound? In other words what is the effects that sweeten the arp?

What is the synth that plays the melody lead?
David Case, a Roland Jupiter 8, I believe.

Castlevania 🤔
O corte da nota precisa de uma cauda maior e o Delay está no tempo errado teria que ser Delay de Colcheia Pontuada ! de resto está top !
te pasaste de delay amigo
Não vi nada!!!?
Not quite
Too much SHORT. WHY?
wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy toooooooooooooooooo much delayyyyyyyyyyy
