Putting in the scanners to read the tags costs millions and quite a bit of time... baggage handlers have to be retrained to place the luggage so the scanners can read them... it isn't a single camera scanner eithrer but multiple point. Then each baggage cart needs a hand scanner and training has to happen there. Plus it all had to integrate with their legacy flight scheduler. And that is JUST for baggage claims. Each airport thry service would have to be upgraded. This is a LONG fix. And that doesn't address their scheduling issues.

    A friend came up with a theory about the actions of corporate bosses. When you get the job, ask for your bonus and/or salary to be tied to the share price. Then implement staff cuts, service reductions, reduced benefits and some minor price increases. Nothing illegal. The market analysts love cost reductions (your profit goes up) and so the share price goes up. You make good bonuses.
    It will take a few years for your customers to notice or care. So after a couple of years, you leave before the company suffers the effects. The last good staff leave, customers abandon the company and the share price tanks. Customers are left stranded (sometimes literally) and investors lose a lot of money. But you’re in another job and can say “well, when I was in charge, everything was fine.”
    And repeat.

    We must take a step back and look at the big picture.
    Southwest is a low-cost airline. Low cost means low service and low wages hard press employees. Or more simply you get what you paid for!
    The Transportation Secretary job is not to help the Airline; his job is to protect the customers. The Secretary of Transportation protects the customers by strictly enforcing the existing Law. The Law says that Southwest must refund the customer for the cancelled flights, that Southwest must pay the hotel costs and meal costs for the customers affected by the cancelled flights, that Southwest must compensate the customers for delayed or lost luggage.
    This will cost an arm and a leg for Southwest. The Transportation Secretary must teach a lesson to airline companies. You have to assume the responsibility for your bad management.

      @jnewcomb Před rokem

      Actually, SW is only obliged to refund the cost of the cancelled flight. No food, no rentals, no hotels, no return flight through a competitor. This is what deregulation gets you. 👍

    Sure SW has their problems but their fleet size is much lower than Delta and American by 400 to 700 planes. Each of those had 12 to 17% cancellations daily. Did SW think of safety because of the size of their aircraft? Their fleet is 737's while the others have air buses and few 737's
