    MKBHD is already pretty tame when it comes to criticism by CZcams standards. Blaming a reviewer for a failing company is like blaming the weatherman for the hurricane

      @WHALEx3 Před 12 dny +74

      He hasn't been tame. I'm mostly upset about what happened to Fisker, a company really dedicated to sustainability. He's holding start ups to the same standards as mega corps, and the start ups have to deal with the biggest name in tech outright rejecting their product. I don't expect new companies to create products as good as something Apple or Google makes, so I'm more forgiving when a company that has a great cause doesn't get it right the first time.
      I don't blame him for sharing his opinion, but there isn't even a chance for these companies to improve. It just makes me feel sad.

      Seriously though, this is ridiculous. Constructive criticism of decent products yields good products, and negative reviews of trash helps prevent people from accidentally buying trash (and funding the production of even more trash). The entire point of a free market is supposed to be that companies compete for business by making good products and services, and they *should* die if they're bad, that's the point. And a critical requirement for that process to work properly is that buyers need good information about the products and services so they can accurately pick the best option, otherwise it all just falls apart and we all wind up with junk.

      @bosstowndynamics5488 Před 2 dny

      Negative reviews can in theory break a company but that should *never* be a part of the thought process when writing that review. If the product is good, it will get good reviews, if it's bad then the company is going to wind up hurting sooner or later anyway, and tricking people into buying it as some kind of bad charity action just costs a lot of buyers time and money. If the company goes down it's their fault for a bad product/service/business model.
      The only caveat there is that this assumes an honest review. A *dishonest* and negative review of a small up and coming business that's not got a lot of coverage could be rough, but these situations are going to be very rare, and even the haters don't think Marques is lying that these things are bad

      @@bosstowndynamics5488 Sure, so tell me, what qualification do I need to say if something is good or bad? Do I need for example a masters in technology with a few years of quality control under my belt? Or can I just be some popular person who likes to scratch plastic and then tell you the product is cheap and nasty? I mean he is sitting in a tesla cybertruck, and you think his opinion should carry weight? wake up. None and I mean none of his reviews have gone through anything approaching an academic review of the product. I would expect 1st year students to review products better. He is a popular person telling you if he likes something or not. This does not equal an honest review of a product, more an honest opinion of the product.

    • @bosstowndynamics5488
      @bosstowndynamics5488 Před dnem

      @@geroutathat I'm pretty sure "whether or not you're sitting in a Cybertruck" would be a pretty bad qualification to judge a reviewer by. I don't know why you're acting as if I'm the one demanding qualifications when you're the one proclaiming that Marques' opinion is wrong because he disagreed with you. A reviewer doesn't necessarily require qualifications because different reviewers approach things from different perspectives. Marques certainly doesn't because he's reviewing the user experience, and the main qualification for telling people what it's like to use a device is having used it, which he has. If he was reviewing some scientific equipment you would want him to be a researcher in a relevant field, if he was reviewing a professional camera you would want him to be a photographer, but he doesn't do those things and doesn't claim to speak authoritatively on those subjects. What he does is review consumer electronics, it really shouldn't come as a surprise that being a frequent and broad user of consumer electronics is the best way to have a solid base to review new electronics.
      Reviews also really aren't as high stakes in most cases as the naysayers are making out. If 5 reviewers assess a product and only Marques gives a bad review, his review isn't going to kill it. The products in question died because they suck, and the fact they suck is why *lots* of reviewers gave them bad reviews. The only causative effect is that they died slightly faster than they would have otherwise, but in the process those reviews saved potentially thousands of people from buying junk and wasting their money.

      Exactly, we, both the product designers and the consumer want the product to succeed. Who wouldn't want a brand new piece of tech that changes the world in a way that was completely unimagined. But if the product doesn't deliver its promised features, we don't as consumers owe it to company to stick up for it after failures and pamper it like a child. It's a ruthless world out there. And if one bad review, however notable that maybe, crashes your company, then maybe the foundations weren't so solid in the first place.

Maybe some small stuff like the response time of requests, but even then, they knew it would be like this from their own testing, obviously. They either can't or don't want to do much about it. They still decided to release their product like this, including the much more fundamental things flaws.

    mkbhd has reached the point where he's hit the mr beast syndrome and people are getting mad at him for not having cured cancer or solved world peace yet

      Unfortunately any time you say anything negative people will act as if you personally hurt them.

      There is a bit of nuance to that, I've been seeing the Mr beast didn't do enough rage is seemingly misplaced "why is this NEEDED. Why must the rich solve our problems, why are they not solved by those who are paid to?" Rage tbh

    If you don't want bad reviews, don't make bad products.
    The only reason I watch MKBHD is because of the level of trust for the honesty I have. Keep it up.

      If a channel is large enough, they could theoretically shut down a good product.
      Sometimes a sort of prototype will get better.
      In case of the last video:
      Calling something „the worst product ever?“ as a clickbait title - yeah that can be seen as unfair.
      Otherwise I am completely on the side of your argument.
      Companies need to develop good products for good reviews.

      @@antman767390% of the titles on YT are click bait, because that's what's needed nowadays to be in YTs algorithm. Never judge a video by the title or thumbnail, you actually need to watch it.
