DaYan TengYun M In Depth Review (feat. JRCuber)

This is our in-depth review of the DaYan TengYun M, DaYan's most recent 3x3 release. Unlike the rather underwhelming releases DaYan has recently released, the TengYun garnered a great deal more positive feedback. This factory magnetized puzzle is lightweight, compact, and features a super soft and cushy feel, setting it apart from just about every other cube on the market.
Despite this unique feel, we had to do quite a bit to prepare the puzzle for good solving conditions. We wiped out the lube, changed the springs, and then re-lubricated the puzzle to slow it down a little (Angstrom Compound X, Traxxas recommended). After set up, Phil discovered that it was suitable as a main cube for him!
We hope that this release encourages DaYan to continue improving its designs!

The tengyun is perfect for people with controlled turning. That’s why Phil likes it. But Chris’s turning style is more aggressive so it wouldn’t work for him

Cactus Cubing the filmed solves were different from the recorded avg of 100 but it’s still interesting to get a better single in the couple of filmed solves instead of the 100.
We don't film our averages of 100. Too much data. We just film about 20-25 solves to cover our VO and do the averages of 100 separate.

You have to appriciate their honesty. Even though talking badly about some of about the cubes they sell is going to hurt the sales, they still do it because they care about the consumer. Thanks guys!

i got this cube yesterday and was hoping for an OH main...got a 3x3 and OH main out of it, was SO not expecting that, i only wish the magnets were abit stronger for TH

Hey, I just wanted to say that I love that you show the tester's average of 100 on both cubes. It really helps to see how good or bad a cube is compared to their mains. I hope you guys never stop doing this although an average of 100 sounds a bit extreme.
I love this cube, especially for OH. It's buttery smooth and pleasantly quiet.
This has become my main over the Gan 356 X. It's underrated by most reviewers and definitely worth trying out.

I literally dropped 4 seconds when I switched from weilong wrm 2021 to the tengyun. It is a bit wonky for two handed. But still works
This video just shows that anyone who’s willing to actually set up a cube properly will find MUCH better results than literally everyone else

Which springs are you referring to as "thinner"? One is shorter than the other..
The stickerless zhanchi was my first speedcube, I believe. I just ordered the tengyun, hopefully it's at least on par or better than my gans 356s v2 from a few years ago. I'm not fast though, so I'm not sure if it will be great for me.

I'm going to buy one just because of how quiet these cubes are. The 2x2 was a big hit with me so I'll give the 3x3a shot next. But yes I had the same problem with the 2x2. Very loose. I had to set up the dayan 2x2 but once set up it was great.
Hey I just bought this. I think it would be really useful in this video or on your website to rank/describe how the different spring sets compare to each other (both the extra sets and the ones that come installed in the cube).

Okay so Im thinking that Tengyun must have taken your feedback. Mine was significantly less lubed than all the reviews suggest. And after trying all 3 spring sets Im pretty sure the OOTB installed ones are the stronger ones you mentioned. The "thinner" alt ones were definitely the loosest. Still not sure between the fatter ones and the OOTB stock ones.

I may be wrong, but for JR Cuber's stats, shouldn't his standard deviation on the TengYun(1.38) be coloured green instead of his standard deviation on the Gan 356 X (1.46) as you want a lower standard deviation?

I think that one is called EJF2L, where you can skip oll by reorienting one corner in its slot.

Personally for me the default springs are fine and i probably will not change the springs, but I have a lighter more accurate turning style. Currently its my main over the gts3.

Because we don't film our average of 100s. We film a separate amount of solves to overlay on top of our voiceovers later.

What does standard deviation mean?
It refers to the consistency of your solves. Lower number means more consistent.
