@@Docthewrench those little tanks are shooting the equivalent of 250kg bombs, that can for sure heavily damage a battleship and even sink it.

When the Battleships POV in the second round was shown it made it clear as to why the sturmtigers were blocking shells. He was using pure HE at the time and hitting the 180mm plate on the sturmtiger.

I think this showed some of the limits of WT; even if a 12" or 14" shell doesn't penetrate, that tank is going to get launched into orbit from it. I noticed once you introduced ships with lots of AA guns, they fared much better, ie they can start to put a lot of rapid heavy fire (40mm cannon is no joke).
Yep I'd expect tanks to flip over just from the kinetic impact. No penetration means much of the kinetic energy of the shell is transferred directly to the sturms.
Those 14" shells weigh around 1,400 lb.
Agreed, and anyone inside a tank that is shoved that hard, that quickly, is gonna be mince from the sudden acceleration.

Its 11 inch rocket gun was strong enough to blast through 8 ft of concrete . So it has the firepower to blast through most things . The sturmtigers is basically a walking anti ship gun with a 3.5 mile shooting range
I think being able to fire into spawn in the round of chaos was a little unfair but this is maximum silliness and I love it
At the same time, that's a very Guardsman like moment. Spawn my tanks, so your corpses can form a wall for your brothers to hide behind!

The sheer amount of firepower from a battleship from WWII was most aptly displayed in the final round. I feel it was the most realistic.

Yeah people only think of the main guns, but forgot about the whole AA and auxiliary arsenal + the amount of HE they can carry to demolish an entire town
WT's damage model cannot accurately model the destructive force of a battleship's main armament. The kinetic energy alone from one of its HE shells can destroy any tank in game, even if it impacts armor plate that should on paper resist it's explosive force, nevermind the overpressure, the sheer kinetic energy would be enough to turn it into scrap.
Misses from BB guns were in reality known to throw tanks into the air, even from AP shells with small explosive filler charges.
@@Procrastinater that's also a problem for derp guns and arty calls. Any HE bigger than 150mm should make any tanks fear for their life, shake them around and break shit. But we only got a hit on direct hit that isn't exactly on the thinnest part of the tank
Which is why i always wanted bomb logic to be integrated for guns above certain caliber. They shake and flip tanks, destroy shit on near miss, and guarantees destruction within a radius

Whenever you see a battleship light up light up like a christmas tree, then a billion tracers come straight at you.
It was awesome to see the sheer volume of tracers being fired from the ships. Would be cool to see if the jagtiger could go against destroyers

Crazy, as a former World of Warships player learning the sheer scale difference between tanks and ships was mindblowing!
though for this challenge, I'd probably use my AVRE, you can basically artillery the ships from safety, and enough protection that anything that isnt a main battery should not hurt you.
Another thing I am impressed the game can handle the amount of firepower those ships put out!
I mean, if you want to do it that way, make it fair and let the ship engage from their optimal range as well, which is about 10km - 20km with their bi plane as reconnaissance unit......

16:10 is probably the best thing about ww2 battleships and cruisers, the sheer amount of lead it can throw at you when all its guns are in range.

About 32,000kg per minute on a full broadside from an Iowa class with all guns in fact. They are basically throwing a whole car worth of metal and high explosive at you every 2 seconds, even more if you also count the batteries on the other side of the ship
The AA from the warships was frighteningly deadly in that last round. So many tracers.

@@cideltacommand7169 I’m not a historian or a naval expert so take what I’m about to say with salt, anyway the uss Texas had a belt armour of 305mms of armour so let’s assume this atgm has 1000mms of rha penetration for simplicity now first I’m pretty sure the armour on a battleship is spaced which severely lowers the effectiveness of heat warheads plus after it goes through the belt it would have to get through a well protected barbette which is where I’m pretty sure the ammo would be stored plus there’s a lot of space whether it’s armour or air or anything in between there is a lot of space between the armour and the ammo making it very unlikely the heat would reach the magazine’s,
I would like to mention that I took a lot of assumptions and simplified it a lot since there are just so many variables and as I said I am not a expert of any sort and know very little relating to history the navy or the military but from what I know it would likely never make it to any of the magazines.

As a naval player I'm not sure if these battleships had additional limitations but I feel like a better battleship player could have survived longer and eliminated more targets. Was entertaining to watch however
I think it would be cool if all 3 vehicle types were in the same battle. But ships can only be a few miles away and instead of arty you just ask a ship to hit a certain part of the map instead of artillery coming from nowhere. This may be a dumb idea but I think it would be cool for a event just to see if it could work
If you have real players in the ships, they are absolutely going to ignore the arty calls and instead spread as much mayhem as they please until they run out of ammo

I’m surprised I didn’t see any Object 279s in the final round, their hull and shapes would have made them a bit more difficult to knock out, especially with the rather ludicrous armor values one would have from an elevated position.
any of modern MBTs will have much better protection, due to composites etc
@@user-pw1oh2mw6q except for the fact that these shells often will cause overpressure because they’re either HE shells or armor piercing with huge amount of explosive filler, most MBTs would find themselves overwhelmed pretty fast and probably killed pretty fast thanks to overpressure hitting weak roof armor on their hulls or just side armor, I chose the 279 as something that would do well because it lacks any real weak roof armor for the hull along its frontal arc and is extremely blast resistant against explosives like bombs and High Explosive shells.

Another channel had a desert map along the coast. And almost of the group were in naval support. I believe that they chose battleships. And a few were in vehicles to spot for the ships. Oh, such marvelous fun was had!
The ship doesn't have to be stuck in the coastal waters that would be quite different

Main battery shells nonpenning on a tank is such a great demonstration of how broken volumetric is.
Watching a volley of battleship main gun shells coming towards you looks utterly terrifying!
I also believe that if a 15 inch AP shell hit a sturmtiger on the front it would simply go through the entire thing and just leave a mangled wreck.

For the curious, 380mm is 14.9in or approximately 15in. The Sturmtigers are basically launching rocket propelled battleship-grade shells on target (albeit a smaller round than those from battleships).
I'd imagine ground and naval aren't in the same normal game mode because blue water ships can stand off outside the range of almost any ground vehicle's ordinance and hammer them with their main guns. Also, very few ground vehicles have ordinance that can penetrate the side armor of blue water ships, so damage would have to be starting fires and possibly disabling guns via penetrating turret armor.
No way a 3-4” gun is gonna make a dent in the turret armor of a major warship.

I have an idea, could be neat but mayb not. Try taking the U.S.S Alaska vs a bunch of reserve bi planes, or some lower tier aircraft. The Alaska has CRAZY amounts of AA so it might make an interesting fight
Might aswell recreate the Bismarck incident.
When the map called "Explore Alaska" would pop up in the custom battles tab, I would take my M4A3 (105) Sherman there and sit on the beach just to shoot at the naval ships that were camping by the back of the map and they would be so angry with me because I kept blowing their wheelhouse up with heat shells. I even exploded an ammo room once on a ship with a very lucky AP shell placement.
Try 105 Sherman's next!
Chaos probably would have not ended so poorly for the Tanks if they were given time to prepare and also had multiple respawn locations.
The funny thing was is that there is multiple spawn locations near the same spot and I mentioned to people there was but I think some were having too much fun spawning in the same spot

Makes me wish there was a possibility to use ships as a red pawn in ground rb similar to planes just with higher costs and only on maps with water
more modern smaller ships could be used in a ground v air v naval game mode
I think I would have chosen the M1A2 as it has good penetration and is one of the best spalling apsfds in the game as well as good mobility and a laser rangefinder if it was allowed

I remember beating a lower rank bluewater warship in what was basically a duel on a custom server in my Soviet twin 25mm AA Milk Truck.

I'd like to point out that the scharnhorst was not a battleship. It was a pocket battleship, meaning that it had slightly smaller guns and much less armor in exchange for more speed. That might have been why they died first in rounds 2/3.
i think i would have gone with the Swedish rocket car. i think i could move fast enough to do some good damage, only if the limited ammo was not an issue

i personally would've taken my object 279, as it has the firepower of some heavy cruisers, good reload aswell as the armor to bounce a full volley of battleship rounds
Maybe he hase more the firepower of a light cruiser than heavy cruiser, and I don't think he can make bounce a full volley, maybe some shell but not all

I'm pretty sure with the AA fire alone from the battleships, even MBTs and heavy tanks would literally have their armor eaten away with the sheer volume of projectiles.
