Easier to follow this tutorial: Yes. Easier to learn Max vs Blender: Not really, probably about the same difficulty. I do suggest that if you have any intentions to get a job in this field, learn a 3D program in addition to blender (Max, Maya, C4D) Although blender can produce good results it is not as respected in the animation industry.
I am just getting into 3D modelling, and had a LOT of troubles rendering a saber correctly in Blender. TBH, it was my first project :D Would you say that this is easier to use versus Blender?

I think Max and C4D are the way to go, Max is better for modeling stuff, Cinema 4D is good for 3D motion graphic.
