Sadly, Jason "Jay" McCarthy (aka Magicgeezer) died in 2017 aged 47, but he left us with a fantastic storehouse of YT testcard goodies for us to enjoy and, for that, I'll always be grateful to him. The opening (and mistitled) track 'Kung Fu Try' (by The Orchestra of Polish Radio and Television in Katowice; in Polish: "Orkiestra Rozrywkowa PRiTV W Katowicach" ), is a very, _very_ difficult library track to beat. Who knew they could funk with the best of them in turn-of-the-80s Jaruzelski's Poland? (My thanks to a man calling himself Lord Thames on specialist forum for a lot of this information.)
I remembered a bbc2 test card tape which was aired from 1976 until about late 1977. It featured jazz funk soul music, which included the THEME FROM SHAFT!
Le Retour de Borsolino had Theme From Shaft on it. It ran on BBC2 from December 1975 to August 1977, the longest running of the 5 BBC2 "vocal tapes." Bill Bailey was on BBC1 from late 1976 to November 1977. That one had T.S.O.P on it. Both those tunes (though a different version of "Shaft") were on Channel 4's "Almost Together" tape in 1982.
Kung Flute starts at 0.43 and ends at 1.02.30. To avoid seeing the preceding continuity, quickly click or press STOP at start of video, then click or press 0:43. Then to avoid hearing the followng tone after end of tape, click or press STOP at 1.02.30. Please check timer. --- END OF TAPE ---
Two years later some tracks tunes and songs were repeated as a starter tunes and songs of Water Mountain as the Falklands tape on both channels hopping occured in May 1982 on BBC1 & BBC2,also on BBC2 from May 1982 to January 1984 plus BBC1 from May 1982 to February 1985 was replaced the temporary tape Sombrero from February 1985 to August 1985 and lasts for six months.
I think the Falklands tapes delayed the Sombrero tape why it only was only in service for 6 months. But back then Mon Bijou and Water Mountain (track also on this) just seemed like other tapes of music to enjoy listening to if you didn't realise the significance of them being in service back then.
Thanks for sharing this. This is great! Are those the re-recordings of the classical numbers (Water Mountain, Shadow Line, Warsaw Reverie), which you used? I bought the CD and I've quite warmed to them.
Thank you M.G for upolading this tape is fantastic called Kung Flute published by the People's Author's Agency of Poland Orchestra.BBC2 6 April 1980 to 16 May 1984 here's the first four of the tunes songs tracks listed:-1. We Love BBC 2 TV Test Card and Ceefx

Kung Flute - BBC2 - 1980-1984
Last song at 59:33 was some serious Funky Banger.
Needed its name badly!
These commercials peppering the video are ridiculous. I have no wish to buy anything from these commercials.
Some of these tracks you can buy digitally on itunes etc
Hi could you please do more BBC 2 Television Wide-screen Test Card with music if you do not mind
I think that this music went in service in 1980 - and was eventually replaced by "Stratovarious", in May, 1984.
Yes, forty years ago, when i started my final year at junior school.
Kung Flute was better than Stratovarious.
Such a shame that this and Samba Bamba made way for Stratovarious and Sport.
@@dvidclapperton I liked Sport very much but i didnt like Stratovarious!
@@davepage8080 Stratovarious must have been by ULTRAVOX or Tubeway Army blokes.

I remember the double line BBC2 logo in use on Test Card F from late 1984.
@Graham Pearson
But sadly by then this tape had gone. Never to be heard again, until now.

Who are these vocalists singing "dooby dooby daba daby da" in some of these tunes?
The track at 21m30s is amazing! Any idea of name? Keep up your good work!
African Holiday by Walter Rizzati on the album "Manhattan"
Still available from the site "Beat Records dot it"

At 12:52 is a jazzed up classical track. It doesn't sound classical on here.
Magic Mountain sounds like the theme tune to ET The Extra Terrestrial! 😊
