The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are stellar in hardware and design but already are unsupported with no Android 11 on the horizon. And that's ridiculous. At least the S10 and better will be getting 3 years of updates now... but why the S9 couldn't be included, perhaps we'll never know.

Watching this on S9+. Still stellar, except battery life. I got it from 10.2018. I don't see any actual reason to upgrade to the current S21/S21+ like at all, the ultra seems good but that size and price... nah. Most definatly will keep it for 1.6 years more until Samsung releases something that is worth my money, atleast an under the display camera, since I am not seeing the foldables to become affordable soon.
Regarding the pictures at night, I see you didn't touch the night mode of both the back and front camera. I did a direct comparison between my night mode and the IPhone 12. The S9+ is better. After they added night mode to the front camera it's night and day difference even at dim conditions.
For some reason the battery life is not realy good the last 2-3 months even with the optimisations I did. Pretty sure the battery itself is not degraded.
Also Samsung fixed the slow Face/Iris scanner unlock and it's really fast for the part half an year. It's much more secured than the S21 and at the same time as fast and WORKS WITH A MASK. There is also a sensitive 3D touch zone at the home button of the S9/S9+ using which you can unlock the phone from screen off just by pressing it harder.
Also there is the Bixby button which I've remaped at the very beginning to do many different functions. This is not an option anymore....
Also there is no burnin with mine at all.
PS: I am a really heavy user and I am using my phone as the primary work and pleasure device.

I'm not upgrading from my S9+ until Samsung gets rid off the holepunch. I don't mind the bezels, they're thin enough and give me something to hold on to when watching video. Also the iris scanner is great for these masks. Underrated feature that Samsung just removed from the S21 is mst. Lets you use samsung pay on old swipe card terminals that don't have Google Pay/Apple pay support. I'd hate to upgrade to the S21 and then have the S22 get rid of the holepunch (obviously not confirmed but hopefully they'll get the tech ready soon). Hoping they do it soon because my battery life on my S9+ has been terrible recently. I haven't been able to accurately measure screen on time because I charge 2-3 times a day. That being said its still a really good phone and i most likely would have waited 1 more year if not for the screen crack. It honestly may be the last real Samsung flagship that had everything you wanted (at the time) in a phone, but Cameras and Hz have improved now to where its starting to make the S9 feel older than it is. Still fast enough for most apps, great screen and feel in the hands makes it a good phone still today.

My wife and I bought these phones brand new, when the S9 was available. They work great for us, and do everything we need. We are very happy with them, and won't consider buying a new phone until these ones won't hold a charge very long. Currently, I charge mine overnight, and don't need to charge it the rest of the day, but then I don't spend all day on my phone either. Overall, we are very happy and don't look forward to getting rid of them any time soon.

Everything is stellar about it, I'm able to make the battery work, too, getting one day if not a day and a half out of it, I have the smaller S9 BTW, Exynos version. The only thing that I don't like is Samsung dropping support from it, it is absolutely shameful and why I won't buy a Samsung ever again. I upgraded to an S9 in 2018. It's been going strong, but I just upgraded bc I got it on a lease and it was up. I only had 2 issues, my fingerprint sensor became slightly damaged over the yrs despite being in a case, still usable but not great and the battery life which didn't start great was pretty diminished over time. It actually burns through battery even when the phone is idle, forget actually performing, but otherwise, it was still a great phone and even into 2021still felt current and modern.

Watching this in my Galaxy S9. I like this phone, great display, performs well, good camera (not so shocking as Pixel level, but if you are good at editing photos, you can have some nice photos) with Night Mode (which iPhones of this year don't have) and Scene Optimization, average battery life for a three year old phone backed up by fast wired & wireless charging and stereo speakers. The only thing I wish it had is an ultrawide camera, that's the only downside of this phone for me. So overall I recommend it!

I totally agree with you about the software support, it should have received Android 11. Good to know they're giving 3 years of support on newer devices, like Google does with their Pixel phones.
On a positive note, the S9/S9+ got One UI 2.1 and 2.5 and is not stuck on 2.0 (all are Android 10). The S8 is forever on One UI 1.0 (Android 9) and didn't even get 1.1 or 1.5. The S9 got a few months of extra support compared to their older devices, and I wouldn't have been surprised if it ended its life on One UI 2.0. The S9 was released in March 2018 and One UI 3.0 released in December 2020, so a bit over two and a half years of support.
Unfortunately, from what I've heard, if you have a snapdragon model of the S9/S9+ you can't flash a custom rom (like Android 11) because the bootloader is locked. It works on Exynos models, though.
Also wanted to mention that a lot of apps can run on their latest versions on old versions of Android. For example, Clash of Clans can run on Android 4.4 (2013) or higher, and iOS 10 (2016) or higher. iPhone's get more updates, so the older iOS versions lose support faster, I guess.

I bought one a couple of months after it released and I am still using it today! I a technical person but I don't use my phone much for taking pictures and posting on social media, I use it mainly just to browse the internet on the train and of course receive calls. In my opinion, if you are not too concerned with having the best camera on your phone then phones have basically become a commodity, there is almost no reason to buy a flagship phone anymore. A cheap one will probably cover 98% of your needs. I will use this phone until the battery has degraded to the point it can't last a full day with my usage pattern. I usually keep my screen brightness as low as possible mainly to conserve battery but I nice side effect is that I have no screen burn-in whatsoever after 4 years of use.
It's really a shame it only gets 2 years of software updates, but I have been getting security updates and there was one released in March 22. I really think that this should be regulated, a phone manufacturer should at least support a phone with security updates for 4 years, possibly even 6.

I basically destroyed my s9 screen and just threw it in the drawer. Now I use it as a grow tent nanny cam.

My S9 was my first non-iPhone smart phone. Typically around the 2 year mark for an iPhone, it seems outdated and you just want the newest model. This phone still seems very relevant, I may carry it 4 years

I loved the Samsung Galaxy S9, I had 1 from early 2019-late 2020 and tbh I never had any issues with it during its run. By late 2020 I was due for an upgrade and even though I probally couldve went another yr with the S9 I figured better to upgrade to Galaxy S20 before risking if the S9 would start to have issues as 2021 went on. But to date the S9 has been one of the best Android phone experiences so far(in addition to S20).

Very nice vid...thank you. Using my sg9+ with no issues since new. Still very snappy n looks new. Sooo wish it could get those newer updates, would like an android phone that offers updates for at least 5 years. Oh well. Am looking at the Blackshark or ROG if I upgrade cuz of Samsung update policy and screen size. I would really like a larger screen on my next phone, maybe even use a 7" tablet as my phone...is that possible? Well I'm a new subscriber and thanks again.

I’m sill using my S9. It’s solid and works great. I really do wish Samsung would support these longer than 2 years. I’m keeping mine till it stops getting security updates or dies. I do love this phone. I got better reception way up north in the middle of nowhere northern Minnesota close to Canada at -33 than my son did on his 2020 iPhone SE. Samsung is doing 3 years of updates on the better phone so I’ll probably do that or a Pixel.
