The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have always been some of my favorite Androids, definitely sad to see them already 2 software versions behind. But still, the phones feel premium, and that display is as gorgeous as ever.

You should review the Galaxy S8 Active... It's the best phone I've ever used. Practically indestructible. It also has a 4000 milliamp battery. Not a full review as it's identical to the other models. I'm STILL using it. I use Nova launcher and Dex when I'm mobile.

I miss my S8. It's my very first android phone and I always enjoyed how it perfectly fitted with my hands cause mine are small. Lost it when I made a few cracks on it from dropping and water accidentally went inside. Didn't bother to fix it anymore as my father replaced it with S9+ purple which I'm currently using now. This feels rather nostalgic. Missing S8 and my father who died last year from Covid.. have a great day anyway if you're reading this. :)

Me too. Put mine in a case I ordered before the phone got in the moment I opened it and put on a screen protector that's still on it that kinda needs to be replaced but still works, and even cut out a rectangle from a glass screen protector from my old phone and put it over the camera and fingerprint thing I never use so even the parts on the back that the case doesn't protect are still like new. Battery is really good too for a 4 year old phone, gets me through the day no problem and if I had to guess I would say it's at about 75-80% of original capacity. My only complaint is that the curved screen means no tempered glass screen protectors, only kinda good plastic ones. I hate curved screens and corners and I'm glad Samsung has moved more towards flat screen again and corners that are 99% square, they went too far with the rounding of the s8 that year and then realized lots of people didn't like it and it wasn't as functional.

I think since the s6 they still deliver security patches for about four years. But the s7 received a security patch in September 2020. So depending if there happens to be a major issue then you could see the s8 still receiving security patches for 4-5 years or any time between that. After the first two years I think they move their security patches quarterly. Starting with the Galaxy s10 line they are supposed to get three major OS updates. I don't care for major OS updates so as long as the phone is secure then fours years of support is pretty good to me. I had Note 4 until it died in 2019. Even then I think the display was amazing in 2019. Samsung does make one of the best displays on the market.

I bought my phone the same month within the same week of hitting the market.
It was the 1st time I ever researched, including all the phones on the market. for me and my needs it was the best Bang for my buck.
That 1st week in April when the phone hit the market I made the purchase.
It really stood the test of time for the whole 4 years I owned it. Only recently in the last month have I noticed the software where the reliability time start to break down.
    I think 4 years it came down to a $1.23 a day
For me that's an unbelievable deal.
I'd say if you're desperate yeah get the phone but set your money aside for something new. If you're like me the financial impact was better to buy the phone outright and do a prepaid plan.

I actually just upgraded from an S8 to an S21 one week ago. I have to say, the speed difference is very noticeable. Also, the battery is much better, lasting over 5 hours of screen on time (maybe even 6 if you push it), while my S8 maxed out at like 3.5 hours. It is much better overall. My S8 served me well though. I had it since October 2017 and it served me pretty well. As someone with an interest in software, it bummed me out that it didn't get Android 10 while my previous iPhone 6S still gets updated. I'm glad Samsung is promising 3 years of updates now. My S8 served me well though. It was decently fast, but did hang at times. I loved still having a headphone jack. I loved having a Pro mode on the camera to flex my night star shots that iPhones couldn't take. There was a lot I loved about my S8, but it was getting about time for an upgrade, and I'm happy I decided to get the S21. Despite the lack of a headphone jack, plastic back, and 1080p screen, it is a much better phone overall in pretty much every way apart from what I mentioned (but honestly the 1080p and plastic back I am fine with since I can't really tell the difference). It is way faster and not having to charge my battery before bed is nice, plus I'm interested to see what the 3 cameras can do, and I like the in screen fingerprint scanner. I would not recommend people to buy the S8 now, but it was a great phone for what it lasted me for. That's much of what made me stick with Samsung. I still have my S8, and it is quite a difference, but it is still an okay phone and was a great phone 4 years ago.

I actually think that most of these older Samsung phones, even the S7 to some extent, can be completely rejuvenated with a custom ROM. The hardware on the S8 and the aforementioned S7 is pretty similar, and they both have gorgeous displays and tons of features. They're all just being held back by their garbage no-good software support. I'd imagine this being a pretty sensible decision if you need good hardware at a cheap price.

Just upgraded to Galaxy S21 from S8. So glad to have found this video. In the hand, the S8 feels more premium and is impressive.
My S8s battery was horrific at some point but randomly improved which allowed me to keep going a few more years. I had horrible burn in as well and the screen coating was essentially gone so every touch left a streak.
I was shocked how unimpressed I was by the S21 compared to S8. So he's right to say that if you have a usable S8, an upgrade isn't entirely necessary.
On S21, I'm not particularly impressed with the camera although it is of course better than the S8. It just isn't as smooth to use as on iphone.
The battery for the first few days was really bad but got quite good after a bit.
The screen colors looked odd to me for a while.. Kinda low contrast. Perhaps the burn in from the S8 affected my brain 😏 I'm used to the new screen now and it's fine.
The speed, just as a new flagship should be, is shockingly great. Especially with the higher refresh rate.
Fingerprint reader was not working well for a while. It seems to have improved with an update or I learned to get it right?
And the biggest surprise was the improvement in speaker capability.
Took forever to remove all the extra garbage that comes along with a Samsung phone and make it feel fresh. That was most upsetting of all.
But now all is well. Happy about the speed, super fast charging, and having some of the perks of Android 11. I had no idea that automatic dark and light mode would be so appreciated!

I used to upgrade every year. I haven't upgraded since my S8 in 2017. It still works perfectly, looks great. Too be fair I'm tech savvy and used to sell, diagnose, and repair, cellphones as well as other electronics, so I may know more about optimizing and maintaining it. Still running on same battery. Holds charge with my level of use for a few days. The camera's pro mode is amazing. I use it to take photos of stars. True, The auto mode is not great for lowlight. Though higher megapixel , It wasn't as nice as the Carl Zeiss Camera in the Nokia 928 Windows Phone released 4 years prior that I also owned. The camera does have burst mode but my nieces move too fast indoors to catch more than a blur on the S8, Something the 928 managed flawlessly. It also has built in wireless charging, which saves you from needing to replace a damaged cable or charge port. I don't experience any lag during use and like he said it's water resistant. The only thing that bugged me a bit at time of purchase was that it didn't have expandable memory. In the end it didn't matter because I could easily transfer my photos to my pc once a year. Built in Bluetooth, NFC, mobile hotspot, tethering, & wifi calling. Easily connect to car stereo, headset, wireless payment etc. My first smartphone was the Iphone 4s (I dropped this in Iced Tea and killed it), Then the Galaxy S4 & Nokia 928 for work, Followed by this. Don't regret buying it.

I had the A8 which I chose over the S8 (no curved screen, better battery, no BIXBY button). A great phone actually, but the internal of 32GB kept filling up. My external 128 was mostly music and photos so little room there. Gave it to my wife and now have 128GB SE20 FE. She loves the A8, yes it's stuck on Android 9, but security updates keep coming.

I still use an S8+ and my wife uses an S8. We both agree that it still feels like a modern phone and never lets us down unless you let the internal memory fill up too much. Other then that it still works great as a daily driver.

I love mine. Don't want to upgrade, but the battery is really struggling. I am a fan of the edge curves and the size is just right. Have had a Galaxy since the very 1st one and had decided on the S21 ultra until I saw how big it is and am in two minds now. Wish Samsung had the same specs in a smaller model.

I'm using S8+ since its launch. Only now upgrading to Z flip 3. From my experience I would say its much better than most mid range phones overall as it was built as a flagship there's no cost cutting in it, the screen can compete with even today's flagship S21 Ultra(which you will never find on mid range phones) and camera is awesome as well still great for Instagram. I had Issues with s4 after 3-4 years in terms of software but I don't notice such thing on my S8 at all, I'd say it will still work great for more than 2 years. If you are looking at mid range price, S8 is an awesome deal too!.

I've had my S8 for over 3 years. Battery still lasts all day with no problem. It also has the burn in imprint of the keyboard but you don't see it when looking at pictures or watching videos, so it doesn't bother me any. I cracked the screen a few months ago, but it's still working fine, and I'm too cheap to spend the amount of money it would take to upgrade to something I like better.
I've repaired older cell phones; this one's a bit more intimidating, but I might just take a shot at replacing the screen myself

It also seems that the snapdragon 888 is an issue with all manufacturers branded phones are overheating and the other processor the s21 has isnt that crash hot either.

bought my S8 2017 around when it came out spent so much money on it I remember telling myself that this phone better last me for life 😂 its still my phone to this day only had 2 screen replacements and 1 battery replacement during the 4 years I've had it and functionality wise still works great, the only thing that's kind of annoying is it doesn't seem like I'm getting security patches all that frequently anymore but honestly I can't see myself upgrading until the software on this phone is so out of date that it just doesn't work properly anymore or security becomes a risk.. other than that will stay loyal to this phone

Happy S8 user here. I have no plans to upgrade to a newer phone for at least a few years anyway.
It still performs well with any task I use it for. Fortunately, I do not have screen burn in as I am not
constantly looking at it like most people do and also probably because it has always lived in Samsung's
Galaxy S8 LED Wallet Case so when the case is closed, the AMOLED screen is completely off.
Also, I still get a full day's usage out of my S8's rather small capacity battery, probably because I am not
constantly looking at it like most people do as most people, these days, live on their phones..
I bought it new and will never again pay that much for a mobile phone so if and when I upgrade, it will
most likely be to a used S10.

I'm finally moving away from my cracked S8 that I used every day until now. It now has a battery that I wouldn't trust as far as I would throw it. I couldn't even trust my battery to last 3 hours by the end.
Just bought my first iPhone, the 13 Pro. Looking forward to the phenomenal camera, fantastic new battery, and cheapest official battery replacement in the market.
