The Doctor, his granddaughter Susan, and his future wife, River Song, face an unimaginable threat in the climax of Doctor Who - Once and Future, released today from Big Finish Productions.
All anniversary parties must come to an end. Once and Future has been an epic 60th birthday adventure; a rollercoaster ride for the Doctor, his companions, friends and enemies, as he’s lurched from one body to another after being struck by a degeneration gun during the Time War.
But which Doctor was shot with it? Was it the War Doctor (Jonathan Carley)? The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann)? The Fourth (Tom Baker)? And who was responsible for this diabolical device resulting in our favourite Time Lord shifting through his different incarnations at pace?
Answers will be provided as the Doctor, River (Alex Kingston) and Susan (Carole Ann Ford) visit the Union.

The Doctor responds to a distress call from his granddaughter, Susan, taking him to the Diamond Array: a huge multidimensional space station. Once there, his instability increases, as the Fourth and Eighth Doctors discover the Array’s terrible purpose.
Meanwhile, River Song has made a deadly alliance to try to save her husband. And the truth about the Doctor’s degeneration will finally be revealed.
As exclusively revealed in Doctor Who Magazine issue 597, the Union is portrayed by actress Maureen O’Brien, better known to Doctor Who fans as 1960s companion, Vicki (a part she is set to recreate in 2024’s Fugitive of the Daleks).
Of working with her TV predecessor, Maureen O’Brien said: “Carole Ann [Ford] came on my very first day of rehearsal on Doctor Who to wish me well, which I was very touched by. Since those very early days, this is the first time we've ever worked together. We've hardly ever met -just in passing - but to actually work together is extraordinary, and very nice.”
Carole Ann Ford added: “That's the thing about Doctor Who, you just never really say goodbye to anyone because you always seem to bump into each other again and it's always a great pleasure. It's a wonderful thing, this series - it brings people together.”
Producer David Richardson said: “After six different stories, and six different Doctors, we enter the endgame… Matt Fitton’s mind has been working on overdrive to deliver this huge finale with its reveals and secrets and beautiful moments aplenty. You might need a lie down after listening to the last half of it!
“And with so much story to tell, it is a bumper episode that runs at a whopping 73 minutes. A massive audio movie for Doctor Who’s massive 60th anniversary!”

An epilogue to the Doctor Who - Once and Future series, entitled The Final Act, will be released in November 2024.

I do like that the TARDIS also goes through degeneration just as The Doctor does. Really showing that symbiotic relationship between them.

This is SUCH a good series! My fave since Gallifrey. Big Finish has never been stronger, just wish their marketing was better. Sooo many fans STILL don't know about these spectacular gems

This will actually be their second meeting. River spent some time as a teacher at Coal Hill in 1963.
"Step"-Grandmother?? Timey wimey Sweetie! Anythings possible. Wouldn't surprise me if River is Grandmother. Unless there is story I've not yet heard that debunks that.
@@petermilne2470common consensus is that Susan's nan was the Doctor's first wife- Patience but she debuted in the wilderness years so like no straight crystal clear answers with different takes between the VNA & VMA books from the 1st half of the Wilderness Years or the EDAs & more specifically PDAs from the 2nd half.
But who knows since the Doctor's timeline is constantly changing based on a expanded universe book called Unnatural History (has the doctor remembering multiple origins and events in life & all being true just changing back and forth), it's possible River may be Susan's biological granny at one point in the future

I can't wait to hear how it all ends, especially with my two favourite Doctors in the lead.
I'm still amazed at how well Carol Anne Ford can slip back into Susan's voice.
It's a good conclusion, the answer to the big question is really good and makes sense who is behind it.

Great series! And a few surprise incarnations pop up throw out this story. Having modern characters interact with classic characters is such a joy. The enemy behind all this was satisfying and interesting and they nailed the first doctor like never before!!!

You can download the audio files directly from your account on the website onto a computer and then burn the files onto your own CDs. That's how I cope 😅 especially since I don't always want to depend on having enough space on my phone for all the stories.

Definitely my favorite of of Once and Future. Granted, I'm completely biased cuz I love River and I love how Big Finish has continued Susan's story, but I don't care. I love the family dynamics at play throughout this chapter in the story. Well done, Matt Fitton!

I kinda guessed who the Union was early on into listening, but quite enjoyed it. I liked the mention of Jim the Fish too.

Didnt see the twist(s) coming but in hindsight it all made sense, could easily be recency bias but geniunally think that part 7 is the best of the lot as an anniversary story (waiting for the Coda before i decide how I feel on Once And Future as a whole).
Curious about the Coda due next November though and how itll play out but all part of the fun, heres to going the long way round on slow path of 13 months to November 2024

The problem is the classic doctors are all too old to do all the running around on screen any more so something like this would have been impossible for the show
@@vanimapermai Only thing they can really do on the show with the classic Doctors is to introduce them as new incarnations of the Curator and thus elevate them to the status of "old favourites", such as BF have already done with the Sixth and the Eleventh besides the Fourth Doctor.
@@BEE-oz7yd well, before I commented on this video, I travelled forwards in time and bought the producers an expensive dinner, and I suggested that they show me the episode first.

When the TV 60th looks to be ignoring 90% of the shows history, big finish, as per usual, is here to deliver.
I enjoyed this series and was very happy with the conclusion (which was nice after the appalling conclusion to the unbound doctor of war), it wrapped everything up nicely, gave a satisfying answer and ended well.
My only complaint is that it would have been nice to have 13 as well would have loved to hear river and Susan react to them and it was a bit weird considering that 10, 11 and 12 were there, they just felt a bit absent.
The series as a whole though has been great, so many aspects of the franchises history, even an unbound doctor. Not to mention some of the interesting pairings, like 6 and jackie Tyler. I'm glad we got an actual celebration of the shows history for the 60th anniversary, as what we're getting on the TV seems to be more of an RTD celebration.

River? I've downloaded it but this trailer has me anxious and overwhelmed. Is this the finale to Once and Future? I think I remember reading that Jo Martin was going to be in it. Was the Fugitive Doctor scrapped from the story?
@@slateoffate9812 That's just a rumour. There's an epilogue, a Coda, The Final Act, coming November next year, that has stuff that hasn't been seen on TV just yet. We don't know what it is

The clothes probably don't change all the time as well, but BF primarily focuses on the audible experience, the trailers are merely accessories and serve as stylistic rather than definite representation of what goes on within the story.
The one time where they completely relied on the visual medium and make no mention of it whatsoever in the audio drama was when the Eighth Doctor changed his Wild Bill costume to a blue leather jacket in Dark Eyes.

Who's Eleven?
They're a timelord who's incarnations all exist at the same time in the same body, each with different personalities and it has driven them insane.
That's the short answer anyway. They have a long backstory.

@@iain9757 Why do you think there's anything wrong with him, the story was produced and pressed, then stashed. And it features the long-awaited re-encounter two fan favourites. It would also have been the first time for the Doctor to show up in the adult-oriented Torchwood setting.

Also this is doctor who, if you wanted continuity then you came to the wrong franchise, the show hasn't had a proper continuity for around 50 years or more and it has constantly been changing and contracting itself.
