I love how although this is a funny skit it's also cosmically horrifying, no matter what the doctor does he cannot stop the dalek and actually contributes to their existence an immense amount

but to be fair the daleks could have had CLAWS instead of plungers so he does some good with them
The Doctor allowed their creation to continue as 4, saved a child Davros as 12, and now accidentally Bootstrap Paradox'd the name Dalek and contributed to the plunger lol

The original reason why they had a plunger instead of an actual claw cause a claw was the original design for the Daleks is because all they could afford on BBC was a sink plunger just a normal red and tan sink plunger but it was black and white so nobody would notice

It's quite interesting to see a younger Davros from before his accident, and the Dalek's plunger arm being an accident after the Doctor destroyed the original arm was hilarious!
Davros will no longer be portrayed in his support unit. This decision was taken to remove the negative portrayal between disability and evil.

I love the subtle Bootstrap Paradox. Doctor named the Daleks because he knew what they were called in the future. Davros was dismissive of the anagrams otherwise.

Just wish they used the original 1963 design and colors, but I get why they used the…ugly grey and black with unconvincing pupil.
It's even better when you consider that the sucker he grabbed was probably salvaged *from* a Dalek at some point and has just been lying around the TARDIS for years.

@@splat-trainproductions nah because that design canonically is one of the very late Dalek designs, whereas this design is canonically the first, as seen in Genesis of the Daleks
@@splat-trainproductions Well the grey Dalek is accurate to what we saw in Genesis which implies that design came first and the 1963 one happens in the Daleks' future.

I love how once the Doctor realizes what event he was interrupting, he knew that he had to reluctantly participate in the Dalek's development in order to prevent the established timeline from being disrupted.

A mate of mine who sadly isn't with us anymore loved the Tate Tennant duo, we watched nearly every episode together during that season and it is some of my fonedst memories of the DrWho series as well. I'm so happy to see they're back if only for charity, I just wish Mikey was still here to see it. I'll be watching this one for you buddy.

I’m in the exact same boat, my fiancé deeply loved Tennant’s doctor. My fiance had me watch every episode with him (from Eccleston to Smith’s)! He was said when David left, but Matt is my favourite doctor. When I had the chance to go to england I made a point to go to the shop for them. It was so cool! My fiancé passed away 2019, I wish he was here to see him back as the doctor! He would have been so happy! It makes me cry seeing David back!!!

Fun fact: Russell T Davies had originally written for a younger pre-Genesis Davros to be seen in Journey's End through flashbacks, but had to cut it from later drafts of the script due to an overlong runtime and to cut the budget. Nice to see Julian Bleach finally play out a scene as Kaled Davros!
I am a bit confused. I was under the impression that Davros was very much already blind and borged out when he started the Travelling Machine project. I mean, Timey-Wimey is as Timey-Wimey does, and he's every inch Davros in spats as he is in a Hoveround, but I feel like the Doctor would evert himself in surprise if he realized Davros made it that far into his timeline able to handle stairs.
I bet the Mark III has lift technology to deal with stairs since Davros probably still uses the things.
Thats a point actually. In Genesis he is in the chair. And his early Daleks are based on the chairs design. Hence all the kids in our infants school when Genesis was first broadcast thought that Davros was what was inside a Dalek and someone had taken the top part off. It took me ages to convince them it was a man, and he was the designer of the Daleks and the Daleks were what the race of men would become. Yes I was so into Doctor Who even at five years old. Maybe ol Davros was designing away and coming up with this...then he gets splattered in the rocket attack and builds his chair and life support and then continues with the work till Doctor 4 shows up to put a spanner in the works....and dynamite in the mutant lab....

I love how a Human Adult Davros is basically like some German mad scientist from WW2, makes perfect sense with the whole Dalek thing and the ‘supreme’ race. Absolutely top notch.

It can't be lore, because the Kaleds will move towards racial purity, including minority Kaleds with the wrong skin colour will be removed from Kaled society. Any prequal can't change what's established in "Genesis of the Daleks".

The idea of making it so the toilet plunger hand was always kind of an accident is such a genius way to address how ridiculous it is, and also brace an audience for a potential change to something more menacing and practical, while still retaining most of the Dalek's overall silhouette.

Plus, nothing wrong with a comical little feature.
I don’t think they will change it, nor that they should, it’s far too iconic now.
But also, it’s always been kind of an accident in real life too! It WAS supposed to be a claw with which the Daleks could grab stuff, in the original design. Except they couldn’t do it, by lack of means and time, and so they plugged a plunger in the Dalek as a last minute resort and called it a day. And then it became legendary. Like, this episode is just an in-universe reenactment of the real life story and it’s BRILLIANT!!

The Kaleds are on a path to racial purity and anyone eventually regarded as a minority racial Kaled, like darker skin, will be removed during the ongoing war with the blond Thals on Skaro. RTD is messing with official canon just for the sake of it because he believes he not offending wheelchair users!

You can definitely hear it in Tennant's voice, having done two seasons of Good Omens... He's still channeling a bit of Crowley's sass and tone.

Tbh, I never watched Good Omens (I got put off from it because the fandom made it all about shipping, and that's exactly what pulled me away from Supernatural), so it just feels like the same old, very missed Tenth Doc to me 😅

The plunger is actually capable of grabbing onto anything and never letting go. A Dalek once crushed a man's head with its suction power. It's a funny skit lol but Davros legit had a hard on thinking of the engineering posibilites that a murder plunger provides

I remember the first time I saw one back with the 9th Doctor. I was baffled by how ridiculous it looked. I remember thinking, "how can these ridiculous things be any sort of threat to the Doctor? They can't even handle stairs!" Then it came upon stairs and hovered, and I was like, "oh. I see they thought of that."

And as far as the Doctor being gay, well, just cope. 14 did say he was a billion years old and that leaves a lot of time for exploration.

Not that it was recent - this takes place way in the past.
This scene takes place in the FAR past for the Daleks. I wouldn't call it "recent" relative to other Davros appearances lol. Remember, the Doctor is a time traveler.

Absolute rubbish not funny at all. Goes against everything in genesis of the daleks
I know a lot of fans have complained about the able bodied Davros but I think he was brilliant. As a stand alone sketch this was RTD giving fans a gift, the opportunity to see Davros before he became disfigured. Remembering "Genesis" from 1st broadcast the Authentic Kaled uniform was a joy & with Julian Bleech playing the role I instantly bought into this being Davros. Great how the Doctor is responsible not only for the name but a sophisticated claw arm being replaced with a plunger!
No complaints from me. It's fair to reason he wasn't *always* stuck in that wheelchair thing.

Nothing to complain about, it's long established that he mutated his body across various explosions and cell donations to keep the Daleks going.
It's just people finding something to complain about for the sake of finding something to complain about. I haven't an issue with it, I think it's a great take on it and gives a great opportunity for a new path for Davros' story to go down.
No one complained about this. What we're complaining about is Russell's decision to completely ditch classic Davros
David Tenant's unbond energy is clearly the fit for Doctor Who. It's hard to imagine anyone else as him. While the last few were good, they unmatching in many charismatic ways.
Every Dr had their own personality
Tbf, 11 was literally the embodiment of the doctor even if he wasn't the most popular. Not to mention that 12 had the older more serious vibe that the doctor can't exist without.
@@EmiWi honestly i don't think there's been a bad nuwho doctor actor yet. nine is my personal underdog favorite doctor, and of course john hurt is john hurt. i haven't seen most of jodie's run so i may find myself wrong about her, but from what i've seen and heard she largely did the best she could with subpar material no?

60 seconds of 14 and already you can feel he has a different persona to 10. Well played Tennant, brilliant. 😁
There's an aspect of Thirteen's in Fourteen's mannerisms, particularly Thirteen's friendliness. The way he calls the guy a new friend doesn't feel like something Ten would say to a stranger, but something Thirteen would.
It is interesting now that we are in a post-13 era, we can now look back more objectively on her personality, persona, etc, and can now say how future doctors are influenced by her, rather than simply saying she is a copy of 10 and 11. I binge watched the 3 seasons, so time crunched a bit for me and I didn't notice these changes as drastically as if I had watched the 13th doctor live, but she really came into her own character and it is actually quite a cool character! I wasn't a fan of Jodie's over-animating of the doctor's mannerisms (sonic screwdriver for example) in the first season, but the actress found her stride and I love the 13th doctor's personality now! I do wonder if maybe the writing is better than we give it credit for and will only find out as time progresses, but regardless of the writing and everything else, the 13th doctor herself was a great doctor. Excited to see the 14th doctor's mixture of 10 and 13! (and experiences from between)
10 grown up a little, with all of 11, 12, and 13's experiences. Remembering how they looked at his "vanity issues", and also now not dealing with the weight of destroying gallifrey since he can now remember saving it. Along with going back. He's still 10 at heart but a bit of a changed man with time. And all of that is already coming through in this short video
Image if Tennant got to keep his Scottish accent this time since 10 and 14 are meant to be separate incarnations. Wouldn't exactly have been the first time the Doctor went Scottish lol

I don't know why "fans" are going on about how Davros can walk, when it was established the Daleks used to be Kaleds (humanoid) or Dals (maybe a settlement of the same species if it helps with headcanon) before and he was gravely injured before the advent of final product with mutant inside and had the bottom half readily aviable to operate. If anything I think this shows how deadly Davros always was before and after his deformation, he was shown walking albeit as a child before.
The funniest part about this is that Davros actually likes the plunger 🪠 😂
Well, would you look at that. The Doctor interfered with the Daleks' creation in such a way that they were made less dangerous. He finally fulfilled the mission set for him by the Time Lords in Genesis of the Daleks.
I properly cackled at the ending. Something about the cinematography and Davros' utter bemusement giving way to approval, backed by the swelling choir, just got me.

I think the some of the actors filmed it at different times which is why it a bit disjointed but... I like it.
It’s the way the music gets all dark and the choir rises that you think Davros is about to LOSE his shit and then it calms down and he is like “I like it…” I was laughing

@@tandemyeti2515 Facts aren't pessimism. The show tanked after Smith. Capaldi was ok.... but otherwise it just went so far down hill so fast. Jodi's doctor sucked. I could barely make it through, the writing was so bad, the stories were bland, the visuals were over saturated. It all just sucked.
But then we get this and the specials with Tenant and Tate... The doctor Donna. The most Iconic duo. And then they'll be gone.... And I've watched all of Sex Education and I just don't see Ncuti Gatwa being a good doctor....But maybe he'll surprise. Tenant and Smith are real character actors. They MAKE the role their own and bring a real personality to it. You can see it too with David in Good omens and Matt in the House of the Dragon. They MADE the role. Doctor who was amazing because of those two being so good and having such long runs. So we'll get the good doctor back for a few episodes and then it'll likely be trash again that fades from my memory instead of episodes I desperately crave seeing every week and monologues I can't help but memorize and constantly quote and feel a rush of adrenaline and power every time. I didn't get that from Capaldi or Jodi except for 1 or 2 scenes with Capaldi.

They said that Davros is a prime example of using disfigurements and disability to communicate a character as evil or amoral. Scarred, eyepatch-wearing Bond villains are a played out and, yes, harmful stereotype. This is a kid's show, how you portray vulnerable groups matters.
If it WEREN'T for that association, it'd be great to have a disabled character play a villain role. But look no further than the Hayes Code to see we have a long history of making minorities into villains for the sole purpose of making them seem morally reprehensible.
When you get RIGHT down to it, seriously, examine why Davros was originally conceived as disfigured and disabled. Was it for inclusivity, or was it to make him scary and imposing? I bet I know your answer.

so true, but taking one of the most loved doctors does seem like a lazy move, they could easily write the doctor with someone new if they just put more effort in it and have a emotional filter for the character instead of (insert comedic relief here).

I like how Davros looks mad when he's actually thinking about soft robotics and how much more effective it could be then a claw.
Instead of a hydraulic-mechanical action, he can integrate a nano-matrix to the plunger to not only extract elements, but act as a rapid-response pneumatic.

Technically he didn't, the TARDIS did since its controls were locked up at the time. Read Liberation of the Daleks for more details. I'm curious how he managed to leave though since it's controls were technically locked up. Might have just used some other sort of control.

Man has no social skills but is goddamn intelligent. You think he is about to blow a gasket at seeing the plunger and the choir picks up as if he is going to start having the poor intern killed, then it stops and he likes it and it’s all kosher. Man doesn’t know how to NOT put others on edge. Could’ve just said he liked it but had to stare ominously for 10 seconds.
This skit provides so much lore and could set up a potential future young Davros storyline, whilst also being incredibly funny. Russell T Davies story writing is just absolutely brilliant

I must admit that adaptable muti-claw makes the Dalek way scarier, but that serves more as an update for a future design. I love seeing the Doctor's reaction to when and where he is. It's understandable because he's not supposed be on Skarro yet. I was slightly surprised to see a Davros before his prosthetics and dalekanium wheelchair.

Nider's voice calling Davros was a nice touch.

Holy crapola is it a hoot to see Tenant back in the driver seat. You can tell he's missed being the Doctor.
Yes. Pretty stupid of him to leave in the first place. He was still very young and should have done a couple more full seasons. He had plenty of time to do other roles still. Its not like he has had worldwide success since. He went to America and his tv show failed there (Rex is not my Lawyer) and his film remake of Fright Night did not do well either. He ended up back here doing more kitchen sink dramas like that one where he played a serial killer and then his role as that demon in Good Omens, which he played EXACTLY like Doctor Who with the same accent and manner and even some of the lines and phrases he used! Still he is a huge fan of the show and always gives 110% unlike Whitaker that hated the classic era and had nothing but contempt and ignorance for it. She just turned up said the lines and went home and it showed onscreen. Worst performance as the Doctor I have ever seen in the worst era of the show with the lowest ratings and popularity of the 2005 - era....it says a lot.
@@Simon-xc5oy bruh lmao david tennant is a critically acclaimed tv and stage actor (outside of doctor who and good omens he's most known for jessica jones and broadchurch) and is one of the most well known british actors today??? one cancelled tv show and a mid movie (which frankly, he stole the show there as just a side character) is nothing when you look at the rest of his filmography. and tbh i think you need to watch good omens again if you think he played crowley even remotely similar to the tenth doctor, his physicality and attitude and tone of voice are completely different (if you want a comparison, watch the clip of crowley in the burning bookshop and compare it to the doctor watching the master die in his arms. similar element of "losing your centuries-old close friend", but they're completely different characters and performances). he left doctor who at a really good time with RTD and i would take his three seasons of quality over it being drawn-out and extended past its time.
i can't say anything about whittaker, since i've never watched her seasons past a few clips, but even in this 5-minute special i recognized tennant reflecting some of her doctor's mannerisms. clearly the two actors are friends and have a ton of respect for each other and their work.
I agree with some of this. But Tennant did leave too early in my view. He wanted to break America and get bigger roles and as an actor I cant blame him for that. But it never took off for him there as he wanted, not because he was bad, it just never happened. He has been in a lot of other things since, but did not get the big American break. Neither did Matt Smith or Martine McCutcheon after Love Actually. Yet Karen Gillan did and made the most of it with Guardians and Jumanji...such is the acting game.....

You'd think that they would give him a more impressive reintroduction. That dialogue should have been combed over 20 more times.

@@goodspell2705 series 1 has such a low budget with Chris but they made it work, you can see they put more budget into certain areas and episodes but it was fun. Old Who operated with a shoe string though but it has this charm to it for that too.
I see that the Doctor forgot that he was there at the creation of the Daleks back in his Tom Baker days (story Genesis of the Daleks). The Doctor had the chance to kill off the Dalek race before it could become a menace, and he couldn't commit genocide of even of that monster race.
Imagine you name your own enemy before it knew you were it's enemy AND that you improved upon its ridiculous design before production started AND you gave it the most terrifying catch phrase ever: EXTERMINATE
To anyone complaining that this somehow "makes a mockery out of Doctor Who", this is just a skit for charity ("Children in Need", it's a big thing here in the UK). The actual show won't be this "loose". That said, this does provide a good insight into the excellent general quality of the writing we can expect, and for that this is an amazingly optimistic preview.
They should go watch _The Curse of Fatal Death._ Now *THAT* makes a mockery of _Doctor Who_ (in the most loving, hilarious way).

That was incredible. We see how the Doctor first meets the Dalek and where the plunger came from. This still has it's comedy and Mawaan Razwan was a great guest star 😀.
I hate to be “that person”, but the First Doctor was the first Doctor to meet the Daleks. That was when he didn’t know what they were or capable of. The Daleks were primitive and needed a metal floor to power them. They could be disabled by insulating them. This Fourteenth Doctor knows the Daleks all too well and this is much much later in his relative timeline.
