Imagine if The Sims community cared this much about cheating. They’d all have an aneurysm.
Okay but the sims isn't a very good example 😑
Addi Addi How so?
@@alienillusi0n hard too explain with my limited vocab, but I'll try. Animal crossing is a real time based game. The sims is NOT. The sims gives you the ability too use cheats, which makes it not as big of a deal. I'm not saying time travelling in acnh is a big deal, but you get my point. Now as for acnh, Nintendo cant just GET RID of the ability too change time. Disaster would strike very quickly. The sims and animal crossing are not 2 too compare. They seem similar, but the gameplay is very different.
@@diagnosiis I mean. If you play the sims on PlayStation, having cheats on prevents you from getting achievements. Do you are somewhat discouraged from cheating
@@Squirmychair yall just ignore the comment I wrote about yours I was so ignorant and didnt know the difference between to & too
I told myself that I'd never time travel but when I needed to move ALL the buildings in my island(except the Able Sisters) I needed to time travel. I didn't want to stretch out almost 3 weeks to wait for each building to move...
I'm exactly In the same position. I've never played in Animal Crossing game before so I was just kind of bullshiting but when I realized that I wanted to take my Island seriously that meant I had to move everyone around and I'm having a hard enough time getting money as is so having to move everyone kind of sucks so I'm going to use a time travel method once just so I can get money to help me out with this
Yeah same, I’m really impatient haha.
Enjoy the game and never feel guilty for time travelling!!
@@carrolllynn4077 This, I mean once you get to the endgame(post k.k. slider) it's a sandbox game, you shape your island and make it exactly how you want, you can't do that until you get terraforming. Once you have it meticulously designing the entire island into the piece of art you want it to be is going to take a lot of time even if you time travel to accelerate the moving of buildings. The game world is a canvas to create your art on, if you want to do it extremely slowly or just relatively quickly but still slowly is artists choice in that sense to me.
Life With Astrid I tried creating tarantula island. I’m the guy who gave up because I kept getting stung.
“Time traveling works for those of us who have awkward life schedules that don’t meet up with the games time limits, but still want to enjoy the game.” Is an example I’ve heard that I appreciate. It bugs me that people get so hurt over such small thing
Exactly. I feel like there should be two categories of time-travelers - those that want to get ahead by blatantly abusing it, and those that just want to make up for lost time due to their game-inconvenient real-lives.
I think people should play the game however it will bring them more joy. I personally do not like time travel, and all I ask of people I know who do is to not spoil things that I haven't gotten yet or don't know about yet. I feel like both sides of this argument can get very testy and rude for sure.
I can some what understand the people who didn't catch all the fish in March. It started on the 20th and only had 10 days to catch every fish in March it's understandable the urges to get them however, since it is April, you have an entire month to catch every fish and bugs this month. I don't see this as an excuse to time travel 2 to 3 months ahead because you think you'll have an inconsistent schedule. You are human and you are not busy 24/7 of your life and there would be a free time on your hands where you have the time to play and catch what you need to do. I think this is the intention why Animal Crossing is this way. I caught all the fishes and bugs this month under a day and this game has no specific "day of the month" to catch these creatures. Even if you are busy with your schedule and etc. That doesn't hide the excuse to time travel since again, every fish and bugs can be caught under a day.
@@chronenojysk5107 nobody needs an excuse to time travel dude. Its a fucking video game that they spent their own money on they can do whatever they like. Why do you care so much if someone is "cheating" in a single player game anyways?
@@NoName-vh1nw They were just sharing their thoughts, I think. It might be you who is getting too up in arms over opinions.

Preed Reve RIGHT. I might just skip past the bunny day stuff because I’m trying to fish to make some money and to fill the museum and I pull an egg out of the water 2/3s of the time
J H just scare away size 3 fish, that’s the only egg size.
Use fish bait
I already got all egg sized fish so no problem here lol
Honestly if you want to its your game, just don't ruin others experience by posting that you're a dirty rotten cheat.
Animal crossing is one of those games that you can play however you want, and it doesn’t matter if you play it a different way than someone else
Piage Fabez Yeah. And I think that may be the reason Nintendo didn’t stop time travel besides for things like turnips. The game’s not about limiting people.
Not to mention that kids can't be awake at 10 pm to see a meteor shower, see Wisp or catch night bugs and fish. Time travel allows them to play the full game within their time frame.
@Suvidh Sudheer same
yeah i mean people buy it with their own money so-
I time travel some times. I don’t care how people play I just get annoyed when a know it all player lectures me about a game and says things like “your victory was hollow, you didn’t really have fun/ was satisfyed.”and let’s not forget “you only played yourself by ruining the game” 🙄....so? 1) how the hell of you know if I felt like I had fun or not? 2) it’s my game and I can play it how I want!
The answer is:
*drumroll*
The way you enjoy it, that's the way you should play.
If this game was 100% single player, sure, but online multiplayer is a huge factor in this title and cheating always tilts the scales towards those who do it.
You can’t time travel in online cause if you go to home page then you can’t I don’t play animal crossing and know nothing about it but pretty sure that’s how it works from playing other online games
SavatoEX too bad
SavatoEX it’s not really a competitive game so you can’t get an edge or really cheat.
It’s not meant to be competitive, yet for just about everyone playing, it is. That’s why people want to cheat and get a leg up on everyone else. All so they can brag about how awesome their island is on social media. Don’t think for a second that this game isn’t competitive.
The subtle flex when arlos editor caught an oarfish.
I used to tarantula trick to farm 624,000 bells (2 runs). I have 3 expanded rooms but no upper or lower floor. About 400,000 bells are left in my bank and now I think I should throw all of it away and farm legitimately :(

Is it just me or do weeds in acnh look kinda good--xd
Malumute Dawgs they do!! Especially for that wild nature vibe, I don’t time travel but I put weeds in certain places to make the flowers look more interesting
That's the beauty of the game. The game looks so good that even weeds look amazing.
Apsolutly right!!!! I'm thinking about keeping weeds in certain areas
i like the clovers but thats pretty much it (although i do have this part in the middle of my island where i let weeds grow out so i can get them for DIYs and ngl that part looks pretty good)
I mean me too-
Nintendo said themselves to “enjoy the game at your own pace”
I know right!
exactly-
My own pace, is fast paced. And Nintendo should support that
Thank you!
My pace is "GRIND GRIND GRIND. FAST. FAST. FAST. TIME SKIP TIME SKIP TIME SKIP." And if youre mad about it then cry. Its my world. You dont have to let it bother you

Note: Turnips only spoil when you travel *back* in time. Wouldn’t risk it though.

Odyssey Central holy shit. Hi odyssey central I’m a fan of your channel
I had a friend who had turnips selling at 583 at his island. Since I was on Sunday I was able to make multiple trips going to his island making almost two million a trip
I think the major problem is that shops and villagers follow real life schedules, so if you work a 9-5 job or are in school, you have to wait until the weekend to do anything. And because the game follows real time, once the villagers are all asleep all you can do is farm, which removes most of the charm of the game and just isn’t very fun. I found the early bird and night owl in New Leaf really useful but that wasn’t available from the start.
I admit it, I do time travel- it just makes it more enjoyable for me because I’m impatient lol...I think people should play the game however they want as long as it makes the game more enjoyable. I honestly think people overthink it, the point of the game is to enjoy yourself and relax. Just my personal opinion though! :))
Hi! Dont you get banned because TT?
I’m playing the game legit, but these eggs are getting in my nerves specially the Water ones 😤
Saaame. I just want this event to stop its so tacky and I want to go back to normal 😭 the cherry blossoms are beautiful but these eggs are just annoying
The latest update lowered the spawn rate of water and sky eggs 🙃
The shape of the fish is always the same if it's an egg and you can bypass the eggs completeley with bait. Bait always gives you real fish.
Exactly
You can also vaguely guess if it’s an egg if it’s a size 3 fish
Mostly, I save time travel for when I feel like I'm "done" with the game, which typically occurs a few years after getting the game. I didn't cheat in New Leaf until about two months before New Horizons came out, and that was mostly just time travelling to get the shops open when I woke up too early. My most egregious cheat was skipping a month to get to spring because I was so. tired. of. snow.
But I'm all for letting people play a game the way they get the most enjoyment out of it.
I agree completely! I played the gamecube version a ton when I was a kid, and after playing legitimately for a while and having multiple town resets, I decided to start time skipping, earn a bunch of money on turnips, give myself the NES games via action replay, etc.
And it was a blast! But it would have soured the game if I did it early on.
Host when i time traveled in new leaf (it was when i had just started) i traveled to every holiday, just because i wanted to see what would happen. when i came back i had been mayor for more than a year and i still only had a tent lmao-
Same here.
You can’t cheat in a game where there is no winning or losing, and the “whole point of the game” is to play however you want
Why
A "game" would imply that you can either win, or lose. Exactly how do you do either of those in AC? The closest thing I can think of to "losing" in AC is getting stung by a Tarantula or Scorpion, and even then, all it does is reset you to the dock or your house.
I caught my 3 fish/bugs fair and square, why the fuck should I wait a whole week to get my model made?
You can cheat because the game does have and end and that's when you want it too also the game is meant to be played daily so if your skipping days it ruins what your meant to do
bindi it says to gain advantage and you do gain advantages when you skip sooooo
bindi building faster better villagers is another thing
I wish the Pokémon community cared this much about cheating.

When we think time travel is cheating, we don't realize that there are some people who modify the game to generate bells and furniture and sell them online for real money. I feel that time traveling in comparison is far less cheating now...

This is different from buying most decent DLC's, since they unlock more content, and you can't trade it in accidentally for in game currency (most of the time).

I often feel tempted to time travel but then I remember that the whole 'my home is a tent'-phase of the game was over before I knew it & I wanna enjoy every aspect of it to its fullest. Also, it's just nice to have something to look forward to. Even if it's something small and insignificant such as a new structure in a game.
undercoverduck agree. Also I thought the tent phase of the game would last longer.
Yeah seriously, I never time travel and I was out of my tent by day 2.
I wish there was a scout tent followed by the normal tent in the game. Anything to make the tent phase last longer. The glowing tent and island aesthetic is so comfy, it's a shame it lasted all of 48 hours. (real time)

"It's your game. You play it how you like." Mr. Resetti would beg to differ.
As someone new to AC, I was VERY confused by how far people were on Twitter and CZcams and definitely thought I was doing something wrong. Like... why does my island still look pretty much deserted while some people have full fledged cities going on? Am I seriously missing something? Then I realized time traveling was a thing, and just went back to focusing on my island and ignoring what other people were doing.
Yea, the weird bragging cheaters have done has actually ruined the social media aspect of ACNH that was so great before it came out. So I pretty much tuned all social AC content out, except for posts specifically from my FB no time traveling group.
And here I am don’t know what to do with my island with a hot terraforming...
Edit: I don’t know why I said hot..?
thats how you do it.
its pretty funny how its all old veteran 'experienced' players who are cheating lol. posting to twitter immediately also just means they were seeking instant gratification. Im all about the 'it aint much but its honest work' route
Tristan Neal I have to actively ignore what people do on Twitter most of the time because so much cheating is going on. It's so hard to just find people who are playing the game without duping or TTing
This reminds me of a time in New Leaf when I visited a dream town. In it, nearly every square was covered in golden roses! Of course, me, being new to Animal Crossing at the time, thought that this person's town was legit. And this started my journey to turning my town gold! It wasn't until recently that I even considered the fact that it might be fake, but after 5 years, I've covered around 30-40% of my town in black roses, so I got pretty far, I think! Not sure how relevant to the video this is, but thought I'd share anyway!
That's awesome tho
Good luck on your quest

(TLDR at the end, as well as a conclusion for a more thought out tldr)
My experience with time travelling has been all over the place.
I've played two games, new leaf and new horizons.
In new leaf at first i NEVER time traveled, this was easier because it was back in high school when i had a good schedule, i could play after school, in between classes, or whatever. I lived like this for a long time and i think honestly as someone whose played with TT in many different forms, this is the best one (or the next one i will mention)
Then when i started to have a less normal schedule i found that my shops and things were never open, i was only available to play games REALLY late so even if i just collected stuff i wouldn't be awake, or around, to sell them when the shops were open. This was when i went into a form of time travelling that i support and encourage especially for people who have different life schedules, I would have my time set to about 6 hours in the past so that when i was on at say midnight, it would still be 6pm, that way i could still go to the shops and such even though it was so late. I find this sort of time travelling not really immersion breaking, its fine and i don't think really ruins anything, if anything it helps those people who might not be on a typical schedule as others, like if you work late or have things to do all day and can only really play past 10pm when everything is closed.
Now in NH i've done multiple different types of TT
I TT'd the first day i got it to skip to the second day so i could open my airport as me and my girlfriend desperately wanted to see each other and such so i honestly think something like that is fine. I think them locking the social aspect of the game behind a 24 hour time wall wasn't wise or needed, especially right now with all the social isolation going on people just wanna connect as much as possible.
After awhile of playing normally, i had everything without time travelling (other than that first day)
I had everything unlocked and upgraded, from nooks shop to the museum, all the new villagers and the able shop, even my house was fully upgraded, i even officially had terraforming.
This was where i think i messed up.
I purchased NFC cards to get the villagers into my town that i wanted (this isn't the mistake, i think this is fine if people really want this kind of play style)
The mistake i made was once i found out you had to invite every amiibo to your town 3 days in a row i ended up breaking and doing it all at once by time travelling.
I didn't really see the harm at the time, i wanted my villagers that i payed for and i figured i had everything anyways so i went for it.
The reason i feel like this was a mistake was because i didn't get the satisfaction of getting each villager, it was just one day i had these 10 villagers and the next day i had all my dream villagers at once.
It broke a certain feeling of immersion and i feel like i didn't get to bond with my animals if i had done it day by day. I think if there wasn't a 3 day wait for each villager i wouldn't have done this, if it was one day or even just two i might not have done it but the 3 day wait was agonizing.
This was kinda where the dam sorta broke? a bit ago me and my friends got into stalk market stuff, we'd buy from whichever friend had the best price that sunday, and then search the turnip websites and discords for a 500+ price, and then wait in a queue with tons of people to try and get in to sell.
This is all well and good, no time travelling just a lot of waiting and frustration, especially for someone like me who has spotty internet.
The issue with all this was that a lot of places charge an entrance fee or various things from money, to NMT to gold nuggets, and this was on top of the problem that half the time we'd join queues on the website and wait over an hour only for the island to close down and we'd be stuck looking for a new place (this happened to me about 5 times one day, it broke my spirit, especially because i basically do nothing while waiting because i don't wanna queue in and have my inventory full of things and scramble to empty it and run to the airport and such since they can kick you from the queue)
This was where my friend suggested us time travelling to make money for our own little community.
I set my game back to Sunday, and trapped daisy in a small area near my airport, and then another person in our group TT'd until they found a price for 500+ and we would go from my island to theirs over and over.
At the end i ended up with 40 million which i split 50/50 with my girlfriend who wasn't available to do it.
This i think ruined a lot of things about this game for me and i high key regret it so much.
I no longer catch bugs or fish without much intention like trying to find certain ones to donate or make into models with flick.
I don't need to even buy turnips anymore or bother with anything that is money worth.
Thats a huge drive of the game after all, making money.
I had finished upgrading my house already so now i just sit with my 20mil in my abd and just use it to buy clothing/furniture.
Its not too terrible as i spend a lot of time decorating my town and breeding flowers or visiting my friends, i just worry about what will happen once i have all the flowers i want, my towns the way i want it, and my friends play it less and less.
But i know other people with different experiences
For example, my girlfriend time traveled a lot to gain money because to her, the making money part was not what she enjoys about AC, she likes dressing up, decorating, and everything. She's wearing something new every time i see her, and she enjoys moving her rooms around and finding every cute possible item.
and my sister stayed back in march when it ended because she cares so much about the critterpiedia she wanted a string fish and she couldn't catch one even though she had been trying about 10 times longer then i had before i caught 2, she felt this was fine and never broke her immersion because for her, the completion of things like that are what drives her in game.
In conclusion, I think over use of time travelling is going to ruin the game for you, in most cases. I think TTing to say, have a different time then you are actually in (like 6 hours in the past) so you can have shops open if you work all day and can only play really late, or perhaps if you missed something you find really important that wont be back in game for months or possible a year, i think thats okay. Its in small doses and sometimes life gets in the way and prevents us from participating in things on a specific day (like bunny day or the fishing tourney, ect.ect.)
I think once you push past this is when it becomes less and less fun and "ruins" the game for you.
I honestly think i might try giving away some of my money to friends who weren't involved in our insider trading because if i just go back to having like 1 mil in my bank like before maybe i will go back to enjoying everything a bit more?
TLDR: Little to no TTing is the best as someone whose tried every form, but at the end of the day no one is stopping you especially if its making you enjoy the game that much more. It's your 60 bucks at the end of the day, do with it what you will.
@@notbindi i totally understand what you mean, and as i said in my comment, i even know people myself like my girlfriend who tt and enjoy that experience. Like is AC a game made to be played in small increments over months and years? yeah, but does that mean you cant figure out different ways to play it? of course not. I think most of the time tt can ruin the game for people, many of my friends who all tt say that it takes a certain... magic away from them, but they still do it and stuff. Im a HUGE completionist when it comes to games, and ac is no exception, i enjoy every aspect of the game, fishing and collecting things yes, but also the decorating and customization of my island is probably my favourite.
I personally try and do as little tt as i can now but i still partake once in awhile, especially if i dont do something in a specific time (or that time i stayed on the same day as my friend tt for days trying to get her villager to ask to move so i could steal him) i dont think tt is inherently evil, i just think its very possibly going to ruin fun for people and is kinda hard to go back on it once you start, unless you wipe your file or get rid of every item to gained from tt.
all in all i think its mostly a coin toss, i will never look down on people who tt, i think others who do are kinda ridiculous cause its a fucking game and people can play it anyway they want, its not like its a fps game where people "hacking" (i say hacking loosely cause i dont really think tt is hacking but you know what i mean) can ruin the game when you're doing PVP, but AC is a singleplayer (with social aspects) and you tting to get that cute mom sweater isnt going to affect anyone else other then maybe make others jealous that you're badass enough to tt to get it :P
anyways, i hope you're having a good day, its after midnight which is the worst time for me to rant about time travelling in a game lol i just keep going in circles.
Tbh this comment is a great read
Great points! And yes, def play the game how you want!
Holy heck, I regret clicking that "Show more..." button. You wrote a whole dissertation here. I hope they give you the PhD.
@@AntonyTheQ haha yeah, sorry about that. Guess i just have a lot of feelings about TT. I shall try and seek out the PhD in animal crossing time travelling!
As a person who tries to time travel in absolute moderation, let me give my 2 cents on the first of your problems:
*Not enough time:*
As a person who I assume has played animal crossing a lot, you should understand this one even more.
I wake up every day at 5-6am for work, and come home by 2-4pm and have to be in bed by about 10.
There are bugs and fish that are rare and spawn at 9pm, or 6am. Due to my schedule I have little time to actually catch these things. You can day "day off" but if youre telling me I have to dedicate a day off to be up and spend it trying to catch something when I could do it other wise when I just get home from work and am relaxing... that kind of cold. Now, due to this event, and seasonal DIY's and materials this has come even more to the forefront. Its not always about TT'ing months, but sometimes just a few hours. Just to place the clock a bit in a better spot to enjoy the game you want to.
I agree that it does take out some of the fun when you speed run all the months to catch every bug and fish and all the furnitire and just be done with a game that should take a year or more in just a few weeks. Thats a fair arguement and its also why I dont want to personally TT. Though, some people bought AC to play now, not forever. They want to beat and shelf it, and if thats what they want who are we to argue.
Personally, the only time I TT'd was because I wanted to move some houses and I couldnt really get a feel for what i wanted to terraform or place so I moved 6 houses or so just to be able to open the canvas. Otherwise, I'd have to have been active and waited a week before I could even start thinking about what I was gonna Teraform. That isnt cheating the game, I literally didnt even buy from shops just checked in on villagers to ensure they werent leaving, and when people want to TT like that I feel like it shouldnt be considered an issue.
Why are there only 7 likes.
Hard agree
This makes me think of how differently I play games now from when I was a kid.
As a kid, animal crossing time traveling was fun because playing god was more fun for me and seeing how boundaries in the game worked and what I could push. Now I find the difficulty of "oh shit i missed the stringfish! Gotta remember it next year" More fun.
Same thing with sims 2, id always use motherlode and had fun playing god and making the biggest home. Now I like starting from like 200 dollars. I'd say I like that the option is there, since it caters to different ways people enjoy playing. Coming from someone who has played in both ways over the years.
Exactly! Plus the Gamecube wasn't connected to the internet to sync with the actual time. We had to manually enter it and change it for time changes etc.
This is the best comment of the year
I was basically goin to say this but saw this post and you basically said it exactly.
I can relate, as a child I time traveled all the time! Now, I don't do it and actually want to play the game through. However I time traveled to get out of this egg event because it was so annoying! But time traveled back, thankfully they released an update that lowered the spawn rate of eggs
I’ve been time traveling in animal crossing since i played the game cube version and I will continue to play it that way. That’s how I like to play it and I don’t feel bad about it 🤷🏻♂️
And you shouldn’t, it’s not “harming” people when you “cheat” in animal crossing so play it however you like... personally I time travelled in city folk and ended up hating that game because of it so just be aware that you may end up souring your experience other than that play however you want
You shouldn't feel bad about it, its not harming anybody else. Who cares if you TT an hour or a year? I used to TT but for now I'm not :p
It’s just another way to play the game. I time traveled to get my house done so I didn’t have to wait a day. Time traveling is just how I like to play to. The game is better for me when I do that.
The important question is “did you have fun”? Yes? *Then who gives a sh*t how you played it*

Doesn't bother me when people time travel, but yeah when you post your screenshots of a fully upgraded house and colorful tools 2 days after release on Twitter, that is when I get annoyed. Scrolling down my timeline only to have visual spoilers instantly injected into my brain. Maybe hold off for a week or two.
Especially annoying when you post time travel spoilers to Twitter a few days after release and then cherry pick angry replies to whine about how the animal crossing community is toxic (Alpharad)

The only time I felt I needed to "cheat" was when I was showing my friend what makes the game fun. I handed my Switch to him and he messed around a bit, but the daily chores were already done and all stores were closed, it was hard to show him what makes the game fun when there isn't a lot to look at. Danielle Taylor just use nook miles tickets and travel to other islands and hit rocks there.
Traveling to other islands from the Nook Miles ticket. Also, dig two holes to prevent the player from moving back. Neat tip to save iron: customizing tools resets the damage back to zero. Think of it as repairing the tools so they last longer.

I did it in the Gamecube version.
Time travelling affects my game because people are advertising turnip prices and I feel like i just got scammed bc they keep going back to that date and farm tickets then I don’t feel like I deserve them
I think everyone can play however they want, but it is true that time traveling kills a big part of the essence of the game. I mean it is not wrong to want a fast paced pregression, but by doing that those people end up missing an experience, something the developers dedicated a lot of passion and time. I wouldn't recommend time traveling at all, but if anyone does it's alright.

He literally just said you should play it how you like it and he spent the video trying to fend off people getting triggered. Yet here we go.
I don’t think people realize even with time travel things take absolutely forever to accomplish. Except in the cases of new materials, you don’t jump to the next day and get something immediately. Most people time travel because they want to keep playing, or collect everything. ITS NOT A CHORE AND SHOULDN’T BE A CHORE TO PLAY. I hate that view of DAILY CHORES. We play animal crossing to build a community, not endlessly walk around an island chopping trees. Play how you want stop telling others what’s wrong and right. You do you, but just know when you post about cheating a line is being crossed. 😂😂😂😂 You can’t cheat at a game if you can’t actually win.

I don’t believe it’s cheating. People play how they want. Some people just feel the urge to get things done faster, like me. Langsworth yeah I agree. None of the egg stuff I appealing to me at all. What makes it worse is how 80% of the fish are now eggs and with the trees and rocks it makes it harder to farm materials

I feel like New Horizons is the most indifferent Nintendo has felt about time travelers and item duplicators. The idea behind New Horizons was escaping to your own island paradise and shaping your deserted island into whatever paradise YOU had in mind. Whether you time traveled to make an elaborate tropical vacation home or played the game one day at a time, it's completely up to you.
Even if it feels like you've done everything there is to do, the game acts as a vacation escape from reality whenever you want. Some people don't want to escape to a tropical island every day, and that's okay. Just go back to it whenever the mood strikes you.
Literally the most wholesome comment I've ever read in my life. 10/10
They pretty clearly have stated their opinion on item dupes. They patched that out on the 1st of April.
Apollo Mercier yeah i agree with you. I also agree with the original comment except for the part about nintendo being the most lax it ever has about this stuff. In previous games, you'd be prompted to check the date and time, and changing it was within 2 clicks. That option is not in new horizons because they are trying to discourage people from time traveling.

Bowl o’ fruit Damn somehow deep down I always knew Nintendo would be that greedy but I didn’t want to believe it myself!
I agree with some of this, even being a time traveller myself
they designed the game to be slow progress, and I can respect that. I never wanna skip too far (say, seasons) because then it DOES feel like im cheating the system, but for getting rid of villagers, keeping shops open, etc? I dont see why it's such a big deal
My experience with time travel is a little different. I waited till I completed the "main story campaign" basically I waited till I got 3 stars. I feel like the late game content in this game kinda sucks, and I got pretty bored and the best way to continue enjoying the game I spent my money on was time traveling so that I could speed certain things up. It allowed me to maintain having fun without riuning the experience. I got about 100 ish hours before I ever time traveled.
I was the same. I started playing in March, and I first started time traveling in the summer when I wanted to elaborately terraform my island. It also cost a lot of money, so my brother and I did the turnip trick by time traveling. By that point, I just got sick of grinding for bells. But I still enjoyed the creative aspects and checking out the new content Nintendo kept adding.

I work 7 days a week, during the day, and I sleep at night. So what I do is jump forward or backward a few hours here and there so I can catch the bugs and fish I'd otherwise miss because of my schedule. Like when I'm playing in the morning during my coffee time, I'll roll the clock back a couple hours so I can catch a snapping turtle. In the evening, I'll roll it back again so I can get the late morning to mid afternoon stuff, like the Madagascar Moth. Other than that, I don't do any time hopping. I want to collect all the critters, and I plan on doing it as legitimately as possible. But if I didn't do a bit of time jumping, there's a lot I'd miss out on.
That seems pretty alright I'd say
That's probably not the kind of 'cheating' he is referring to, I mean, in a game like this you still should be able to experience everything, but not rush it I'd say.
That's exactly how I play. As Arlo says, if you want to skip ahead or behind to get something you missed, more power to you. The most exploitable ways to cheat the system for bells in ACNH namely, tarantula islands, could have been done almost as soon as you got the game. And you suffer no "repercussions" for doing so.
Oh and if you have an extra Switch you can "cheat" that way too. Nintendo can discourage cheating all they want. But no matter what they do, how many people they ban for hacking, or whatever new repercussions they add to the table for non-"pure" AC players, people will still find a way to "cheat the system" even if it means using a different switch and resetting until they get the most popular villagers then trading them for bells or Nook Miles Tickets. What i'm saying is, unless Nintendo is willing to ban everyone who even remotely touches their switch clock, doing anti cheat mesures will only turn off impatient people from the game.
SupaSqueegeePlays if you work 7 days a week sounds like you need to a find a better job.
@@inlinechris No 7 days a week is the way to get paid a decent amount
I only use time travel for things that take ages such as kicking certain villagers out
I know that no one is going to see this, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents. This has obviously been the biggest Animal Crossing release and it's brought in a massive amount of new players. Nowadays, with social media being so prevalent and internet connection speeds allowing for easier online play, the community has exploded from being as niche and quiet as it used to be.
There were a lot less things to do in the older games, and I feel like people understood AC was more of a slow burn game; something to take your time with. If you wanted to time travel before, it literally affected no one. There were always the goals of completing your museum, holiday events, achieving a perfect town, and trying to acquire certain items and villagers, but things were more limited. With the implementation of crafting, NM rewards, terraforming, and incredibly expanded storage, it's become a more goal-oriented game, instead of just a sim.
My introduction to AC was City Folk for the Wii. I don't remember how or why we ended up getting it, but I honestly never put that much time into it. My mom was hooked, though. She played for probably about ten years. She would literally play every single day, she had multiple towns because she would either run out of things to do and start a new one, or start immensely disliking something about how her town generated after realizing it was an annoyance hundreds of hours down the road. She would time travel, but it literally affected no one but her, because she loved working towards a perfect town.
You can't change Animal Crossing time mechanics. I feel it lives and dies by the real-time clock, because that's how the series was designed. It's what sets it apart. For example, I could never get into Harvest Moon because the clock is accelerated and if you miss out on events or objectives tied to the fictional calendar, you're just SOL and have to start a new game or just live with it.
I'm literally sitting on the fence when it comes to time travel in Animal Crossing. It's how some people like to play. With massive social media presence nowadays, it can ruin a lot of surprises for people and can give them a fear of missing out. I think the main thing it ruins is not letting newcomers learn and enjoy the game at their own pace. I want them to understand that you don't HAVE TO speed through the game. You don't HAVE TO get every recipe, item, bug, etc. right away. You don't HAVE TO have every objective completed in a single month. Animal Crossing is meant to be a bridge into a second life and played over a fairly long period of time, but I feel like New Horizons has become competitive in the way that we compete with each other in real life. I don't blame time travel. I blame social media.

I'm getting my own Nintendo Switch soon with Animal Crossing and it revolves around time travel.
I haven't really seen this opinion made here yet, so I want to share incase others feel the same way!
I play Animal Crossing for the design aspect of it. The fact that you can now terraform is absolutly game changing to me, and has offered me so many different possibilities. I often will have a different Island layout every 4-5 weeks, and TT does enable me to accomplish this faster (I can move houses, shops out of the way quicker so I have a blank canvas). I love that these DIYs make items so much more precious, because seeing people react to these items theyve never seen before is amazing. The cuteness and the ability to select villagers based on whatever theme I decide for my island also appeals to me, I have always enjoyed being able to customise Animal Crossing whichever way I want, and thats why I personally Time Travel, and I think others might feel the same way too! Again, this is just a choice, and I love seeing how excited my friend was recently to finally get Nooks Cranny, but for me the game is about creating these unique islands with creative ideas! But play however you want!
I do some light time traveling. Being an essential worker, if I played legitimately I would only be able to play Animal Crossing while everyone is asleep, all the stores are closed and I'd never see the island during the day.
On the "perfect for people with little time" aspect. I have had times where I can play video games for 4-5 hours at a time, but only every week or two. This makes games like animal crossing unappealing, because I don't have the capability to play them daily. So I can understand people in that situation time traveling.
Exactly. Plus, some people only end up being free at certain time of the day like at night, so it just makes sense to time travel so you aren't constantly staring at moths and tarantulas every time you boot up the game.
Common misconception. You can play once every couple weeks. Doesn't need to be played daily.
@@RandomPerson-gt1jt Or just have the clock set back a few hours. No need to skip ahead to get all the shops unlocked, make billions of bells and duplicate items. Not that you mentioned them, but just saying. In that situation, just set ur time just a few hours back.
This precisely. During vacation time I have plenty of free time, but on a daily basis, even dedicating one hour to a game like AC is a lot of time and a lot of energy. As someone who works long hours and also tries to juggle an eventful life at the same time, I don't have much space for long games aside from breaks or vacations. Having come off of vacation right now I'm forced to drop the game permanently, or at least for months, and had I not time travelled, I would've never seen all the game has to offer
General Grievous Bro, make the time 💪

Personally, I do not like time traveling. I like how I can go at my own pace with finishing everything. I love the feeling of being excited to wake up in the morning for a new store. I feel like I can wait for things. Plus, if I finished the game quick and time travelled, I'd be fine with the game. I'd just be so bored! I would want to reset. But I understand people who do it for different reasons, like one of my friends only time travels to help people who need bells.
Not saying I have an issue with time traveling but to help people with bells is kinda silly. I made 2 million bells in two weeks by just playing the game naturally. And I haven’t hit 100 hours yet

@@jasynthetic7975 - Yeah... although Arlo made a pretty good point:

Well yeah, that's kinda messed up; Because it could get in the way of other people's experience.
@Arakaneï its a game and not drug relapse you can fight the temptation
The real answer is that it is in fact cheating, just like using instant save and loads on emulators where you shouldn't be able to in the original games. Or using "cheat codes".
Accepting that doesn't mean that you refute this way of playing. As even the developers sometimes accept and encourage it (GTA)
You just accept the fact. Other than that, it doesn't matter.
Yeah but then they flex their stuff online and I’m just like, how are you proud of something you didn’t get the legitimate way? But well that’s their problem haha
honestly i feel like huge acnh youtubers add to this problem. Some of them have amazing islands without TT-ing, and people wanna be like them. But then when people start TT-ing because they wanna be like their fav youtuber, the youtubers act like the just committed an awful crime. I always got discouraged when i watch those big youtubers, because they have amazing islands somehow without cheating.
THEN I REALIZED THAT THEY CAN GET GIFTS FROM SUBSCRIBERS IN THE MAIL AND I TELL YOU I WAS TICKED CAUSE THEY R GETTING LIKE 30 GIFTS A DAY, and they are calling US cheaters (also btw this isn't directed toward u, i'm talking about the youtubers directly based on animal crossing)
My biggest issue with time travelers is that it completely destroys the multiplayer economy for the game. Non time traveled items are worth much less than time traveled items, many resources that are rarer to obtain without time travel become much less of an accomplishment with time travel, and inflation hits hard due to near infinite bells and nook miles with various time travel exploits.
I think that's my takeaway. If you are playing the game but never trade online or post videos - play how you want. But I trade online and the time travelers and dup-glitches dominate the market. One prominent CZcamsr went to his friends island to pick up millions of bells and I feel real disdain for them.

So all I am saying is really don’t down others who did not have the time to enjoy the game when it came out but still want the diy and are just trying to play catch-up.
Hot take; people only ever care about the logistics of time travelling when the game is first released because of pretty screenshots and completed museum tours (within 2 days of the game being released), and seeing that makes you feel like garbage because YOU haven't made that progress yet. Give it two months and no one will care again, because those screenshots and tours sting less
Edit: People in the replies might wanna relearn the lesson Animal Crossing teaches the player... the lesson being to chill out 😂😂😂
Exactly thank you
Exactly! It's as harmless and well accepted as shouting spoilers in a lineup to see a movie!
Wait... that's not acceptable. So why is this? AC is not exactly plot heavy, but there are elements to it I would have *loved* to discover on my own. But instead people were shouting about them on all corners of the internet.
No not really
@@TriddyYT honestly, that goes for every game... it's easier to just avoid animal crossing content at all cost.
People getting jelly over houses and stuff you're exactly right
I only time travel to earlier in the day. I've been working 1 to 10 almost every day (Walmart) and with all this coronavirus stress, my sleep schedule has been off for a while.
Yah I did the same, usually I only play after 10 PM so I just set my clock back a few hours permanently so Nook’s Cranny wouldn’t be perpetually closed
I feel you 1-10 shift walmart here to animal crossing is the one thing stopping me from going insane at work its relaxing and while I'm working I'm thinking what I wanna do when I get home
I feel you I work in the pharmacy for my Walmart and things have been crazy lately having to work several days in a row with long shifts because no one wants to come to work at my store.
Thank you guys for your work! Grocery workers are so much more important than people realize, especially now. Stay safe out there
This is time travel I can get behind
I love your energy, keep up the enthusiastic content!
I don’t time travel. But as a night shift nurse and busy mom of 3 , I could potentially see myself going back in time if I missed something special. Love this game.
The real answer is "who cares"
As long as they can't screw other people's games it's their own experience to ruin or improve however they want
Man the keyword here for me is "improve." It's real weird to me that most people seem to automatically assume that the game is best played in real-time.... yet we're talking about a game that locks you to a single music track (outdoors that is) for about the first week of play give-or-take, among other serious limitations for the first 1-3 weeks (many more limitations than the last few games in the series, if not even the Gamecube version). I dunno if this is a hot take or not, but that early "building the town" phase of the game felt really half-baked to me, and I would've been seriously disappointed to be stuck in it for so long had time-travel not been an option.
@@gogglebrains you're completely right. I skipped a day once during the early game just because it was so damn boring and the museum was taking forever to open. only time ive time traveled so far. The pace is pretty off at first, but once you upgrade the Resident Services Building things pick up tremendously and i have a lot to do now. Also, the music track decision is baffling. And i just wanted that damn track to shut off at one point. I was honestly confused as to how Nintendo got away with making a game with one music track lol... thank goodness that changes. But poor decision to torture players with the same track for a whole week. Enjoying the game a lot. Needs some additional QoL fixes here and there, and the loading for online is silly, but fun game for my first animal crossing.
Yea people can cheat on their island if they like, but we dont have to play with the impatient children who do this either. An individual time traveling on their island hurts no one else, but all the social media and online trading is absolutely ruined by the cheaters. So its definitely right to call them out as cheaters, and hope Nintendo just locks any AC online activity to the official clock.
@@Mr-Pulse my guy, it's animal crossing, why do you care what people post about their island on social media?
If that bothers you so much then maybe the other people aren't the problem
In my opinion, I rather not, since it wouldn't feel the same

Quick correction: the turnips only spoil if you *rewind* time; any forward travel is fair game so long as you don't hit the next Sunday (which would spoil turnips without time travel anyway).
Not sure if you point this out later or whether there's already a billion people who have said the same thing, but I think it's worth noting.

Previous games had turnips spoil no matter which way you time traveled. But because new horizons doesn't have the in game option to change time, the rules have changed a bit and it's only when you go back for some reason.
@@sage7516 Nah, New Leaf turnip didn't spoil when traveling forward either.
@@Zehmaskedman oh, chock it up to my memory, I could've sworn they did lol
Thanks god, today I travel to yesterday to get the turnips and then I fix the date to today. It's good to know that I don't have to travel back again 😅
My switch began to malfunction when I was already about a month into the game, around April. Since Animal Crossing didn’t support save transfer, I got a Switch Lite and accepted that I would lose most of my progress (I traded my furniture between the towns, but I couldn’t get back my home loan or town layout). So I set the game clock to March 20 on my new island, and began time traveling at will. When the clock got to the current day, I stopped. It was just to make up for what I lost.
The only "cheat" I've done is transfer a ton of stuff onto my friend's island temporarily because I got a new switch and don't want to lose my stuff.
in short: is it cheating
yes
is it wrong because of that
no
have fun
How is it cheating? You just skip time to make it go faster. It doesn’t make the game less of a grind it just gets rid of the waiting an entire day for something. Getting money is still such a pain even if you do time travel. What’s the difference if people who don’t time travel are still further and doing more than someone who does?
How is it cheating when there is no competition and nothing to win

chloro like I said I agree with arlo it ain’t wrong there’s no harm play the game how you want I couldn’t care have fun
Pokesnipegaming I understood that part but you still classified it as cheating.
Arlo: “Just enjoy the game you want to.”
The Media: Arlo says that anyone who time travels in ACNH is a big stinky person while burning down the homes of time travelers
Imagine This Is Real. Just Imagine.
(meanwhile i'm 12 years old. for real, burning down a kid's house. a 3 story apartment place. that means everyone in there is now homeless.)
Win Cla what sir (*´ー`*)
Not the media, people. Even in this comment section people are rushing to their own defense
I feel bad for Doc Brown.
More like just you saying that..
I time travel when I want to get villagers in or if I’m desperate to get an incline or bridge done because maybe I won’t like it and I want to change it again and if something is going to take a day to rebuild like nook’s cranny or the museum. I don’t think I’ll ever run out of things to do because I’m always finding areas of my island to renovate. It’s going to take forever to collect items too, and I really like finding new items and finding places on my island to use them. I do kind of exploit the turnip prices, but to a limit. If I feel like I have enough money, I don’t do turnips. I always try to have around 6-7M bells so I can demolish and move or buy anything I want at any given time and I also like to help out friends and give money away too. I want to show off my island even though I time travel because it’s a way to show off my creativity and share ideas and I really like how my island is coming along, so why not??
Plus, nintendo is giving us a lottttt of new content pretty much every month or so, so don’t worry about us time travelers running out of things to do :)
I only time travel when I miss something, like a birthday or an event. Or when it's the end of the season and I haven't gotten all the seasonal DIYs yet.
Okay, so here’s the thing. I work retail, I don’t have a lot of time to play every single day and sometimes when I do have time it’s midnight, the shops are closed and I can’t do certain things. Sometimes I’m so exhausted I can’t even be bothered to turn on my switch. So yes, I cheat sometimes because I occasionally don’t have it in me to play. I don’t go forward in time, I don’t break the game with my traveling, I just play days I missed because it’s very unappealing to me that I can’t get my daily miles because I worked for the whole day and when I got home I don’t even have the energy to eat dinner, let alone play animal crossing. I understand why some people are against it, I hope people understand why I do it.
And you aren't a bad person for doing it, you can play it however you want. Don't let other people tell you otherwise.
If you want just set the clock in reverese. Set the time to AM and play the game like that :v you xan get the full extent of the game without time travelling.
yeah that makes sense. i respect that.
To be fair you have until 5 am to get your daily miles :) since the next “day” doesn’t start until 5 but I get the being too tired to bother part trust me. Retail sucks life out of ya
Why do you play though if you clearly do not have the time for it?
Yep, for me, time traveling spoils the point of looking forward to what you have to do the next day.
I just think how it really doesn’t matter because I see reasons why u would time travel and why u think it’s cheating but also if u do time travel I feel like it’s less fun and that’s literally the reason it connects to your weather and time because the game wants you to have fun and feel like u can go outside since we can’t really go outside
I've time traveled like two days at all. Just when I had some extra time to play and wanted to enjoy it a little more. Some days I don't get to play much, and so it's nice to bunch stuff together when I have the time.
