Few little details I caught. Some of the escaping ghosts during the third act were modeled after the toys and designs from "The Real Ghostbusters", Ivo Shandor was the big bad in the video game, written by Dan and Harold as a sorta sequel to the first two movies, the zombie in the diner was sculpted to look like the taxi driver in the montage of the first movie, the mini staypuffed man that melted on the barbeque gave a thumbs up like the T800 in T2 and the three marshmallow men burning in Ecto-1 at the end of the movie were made to look like the original when his face got melted

There are so many callbacks to the original movie, and I love how the soundtrack is almost identical to the original movies score. AND THE ORIGINAL GHOSTBUSTER ACTORS COME BACK FOR THE MOVIE!! They all played their characters so well, I was overjoyed to see them play those roles again. And Phoebe acts just like Egon Spengler, and Podcast is kinda like Ray and the whole movie is just AMAZING!!!! I am definitely going to see again as soon as possible. If you stayed for the credits, there is a song with words "ghost never leave a haunted house." It was co-written and performed by McKenna Grace, aka Phoebe Spengler. Didn't sound like her and sounded like a much older person, but that just shows how talented she really is. She plays 12 in the movie, and is now 15. She was awesome in the movie Gifted and she was great on Young Sheldon where she played a girl who was smarter than Sheldon. She's been in a LOT of things already, and always does a great job. Making him a ghost and not speak really helped sell the "realism" of him being there. And the hero shot of the four original 'Busters in action was perfect!

The actual sound design of the cyclotron in Phoebe’s repaired pack also has a slight unstable “flutter” to it, on the first test with Podcast, which is appropriate as it was a 30 year old pack and it’s possible some of the parts that were replaced may not be in perfect shape (or Phoebe put them in wrong or not fully seated, but still, not bad for a first time fix on a piece of hardware she never worked on before)
The flutter appears to be gone in the next scenes, indicating that she probably tweaked it a bit or found good repair parts.

Still trying to figure out whether or not you like this movie. I noticed a whole lot of shade being thrown at it. I haven't seen it yet. Spoilers don't bother me. I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless because I like the cast. I think it'll be fun to see the kids discovering all of this stuff for the first time. What I will say is that some of the things that you refer to as callbacks I think are actually organic and necessary because it takes place in the same world, the same timeline and we are in the House of one of the original characters. So I think it's only natural that when he moved out the country he brought these items with him, including the proton packs, the suits, and the car. All of these things that we are referring to as callbacks you could say for any sequel. Because they are sequels and take place in the same world and our continuations of the same story. So naturally some of these same elements will be there. As far as the similar plot point, I can be on board with those and I can see why you might have an issue if all they did was recycle the story from the first movie. There is a difference between recycling a story and continuing a story. I will be curious to see if they get rid of Gozer once and for all, that's including the story from the first one.

    • @misterdarwin

There is an easter egg you might have missed, in the background of one scene it shows the theater, on the movies that it is showing it says "cannibal girls" which was a movie that Ivan Reitman directed, the original director of ghostbusters.

I think my favorite part of this movie is that it was NOT set in NYC. It carries the story forward with new places and characters, but with very strong ties to the original. So well done for a sequel. The Fan Service was absolutely necessary to tie them together, which is where GB 2016 went so wrong.

I actually got to see this movie on my Birthday (Nov 18th). What an awesome present from my girlfriend....a dinner and a movie. I loved the "For Harold" at the end of the movie. The end credits had quite a few cameos....like Sigorney Weaver, Ronda Rousey. This movie was a true sequel to the originals. Too bad Harold didn't get to be in the movie. This was the closest thing we get to see to an original reunion. Very well done.

We knew the mom was Egon's daughter because they said she inherited it from her late father, (assuming we knew it was Egon in the opening). The only thing that didn't make sense was that Egon didn't get trap with all the other ghosts.

You missed one Easter Egg that I noticed: early in the movie we see Phoebe and Podcast standing outside of the town's theatre, and the movie on the marquee is CANNIBAL GIRLS, directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Eugene Levy. In G.B. II, there's a scene outside of a New York cinema where that same movie is listed on the marquee, when a woman's fur coat comes to life and runs off down the street!

There's some dialogue used in the movie that has a callback to deleted scenes from the original movies. Phoebe's mother talks about burning down the place for insurance money, while Peter in a deleted scene in the original ghostbusters talks about burning down the firehouse for money is one example.

Fun fact: In Ghostbusters 2, the team uses the Car the Ecto 1A, an updated version of the classic ecto 1(they are 2 seperate cars) and on the side of the vehicle, was a phone number. JL5 2020. This was the original release date for afterlife before being pushed back, July 5th, 2020.
