- The IER P13 is now available. Enjoy! www.iersimulations.com/p13c-st...
The idea behind the P13c was to design the most technically realistic LMP car possible as an Assetto Corsa mod. And that required significant reworking of some of the Assetto Corsa physics systems, including aero, suspension, tyres, brakes and the cars electronic systems.
Last week I previewed the upcoming P13c Prototype Assetto Corsa mod by IER Simulations. The car generated quite a lot of interest, and speculation from the community, mainly due to the way in which IER have utilised the shaders mod to significantly revise the physics of Assetto Corsa in order to address some of the shortcomings of the unmodded sim. With such a significant reworking, there's a lot to discuss, so today's video is deep dive into the physics, systems and design philosophy of the P13c, as told by Jackson, the team lead from IER.
The planned release date for the Assetto Corsa mod this Sunday, the 20th of October.

Hey guys - the P13c is now available from the IER website. Enjoy!
www.iersimulations.com/p13c-store.html
To think a bunch of people just made these kind of things happen in their spare time just because they wanted to is astonishing. First there was the beginning of great car and track mods, then the content manager, then Sol and the Shaders Patch and now this. If people keep on having this much faith in AC this could become the greatest driving simulator there ever is. Just because of the sheer amount of people working together to create something truly astonishing. Keep up the great content, Chris! This was highly interesting to listen to. I'm defenitely going to follow this project much more until it's being released.
Thanks Julian. Yeah, the people power in the AC modding community is really something to behold. We're a very lucky community!
Chris Haye I’m just excitedly anticipating the “Game of the Year” version that comes with a guide of the mods that play best together and what order to download/install them in to play nicest with each other. A batch file of “Assetto Corsa: Redux” that just does it and works the first time would be awesome.
rF2
OMG I'm gonna be so happy when they start a SRS Season with this car
So much of this stuff can be over my head but he actually explained it so well I understood a fair amount of it. Thanks so much for providing the forum for this kind of thing. Very impressive.
Rewriting the rulebook indeed! Glad to see the car finally making public strides and its story getting told - however painful the experience of listening to a groggy, fuzzy-headed, jet-lagged Jackson may be. For those concerned, my ability to construct English sentences improves throughout the interview. Thanks for the video, Chris.
Haha! It's been a pleasure working on this project Jackson. And, for the record, nobody expects engineers to be able to speak English ;)
@@ChrisHaye Expect an IER video about something technical solely to prove I usually speak intelligibly.
Jackson P. Congrats Jackson and team on this amazing mod! For me it’s the greatest mod ever made! Please convert this to RF2, I like many others would gladly pay for this mod again to have it in RF2. RF2 has the best version of Le Mans in all sims and to have this car in RF2 at Le Mans would be sim Nirvana ! CH said there’s little to no chance of this happening, but I’d say it would be great business for you guys to make it happen. Thanks again and looking forward to buying your WIP cars too.
@@jamesleegte5753 Thank you for the compliments. RF2 will not be happening - it'd be a rearwards step in realism for us, which defeats the point of the P13 project.
If they can mod this and the graphics like they do it’s almost like they can build a whole new ac. Sometimes it’s a bit like they have the sourcecode when you look at how far they can go. It’s crazy, I love it! Thanks for the great video.
Yeah, it's mad just how far AC has come since Kunos stopped development! :)
Making AC a open source project would be a interesting, but highly unlikely, move from Kunos :D
There's the occasional rumour on Race Department and other forums that the CSP and Sol guys will (should) release their own ground up open source sim. We can dream.
@@bennobenji Well, a high-profile redditor on /r/simrally is working on their own rally sim (though I'm not sure if they're going to make it open-source or not), so those rumors aren't really too far-fetched. Though I do certainly doubt the authenticity of those rumors since there's nothing to back them up.
@@miko-nv9cl Sure. The threads I read were more along the wishful thinking line. I'm sure it can be done, just needs a well managed dedicated team of people. If guys can make cars like the one in the video then one has to assume that anything is possible. I'm a graphic designer and would be more than happy to contribute in any way I can.
I'll check out the Reddit Sim Rally. Thanks!
I'm more than happy with AC where it is now though. It's beautiful and has a truly exceptional community of kind hearted people. If I work out how much it has cost per lap it must be fractions of a penny.
Probably the only part I don’t like about watching your videos is having to come up with new adjectives in the comments, lol. But I think the only one that fits in this case is brilliant.
You’ve done a fantastic job once again, Chris. I can’t wait to try it this Sunday. What a tremendous video this was.
And the thing I don't like about your comments Mike is that I have to come up with a response that isn't "you're too kind!"... It's a hard life :P
Jackson deserves a lot of credit for the video, and obviously the car. I just asked a few questions and let him talk :)
Now THIS is a mod, not some stolen asset from other games. Can't help but think about how great it is that these things are done out of hobby purposes/passion.
For sure. We're very lucky to have such a healthy and technically knowledgeable community of modders.
yeah but everything like this costs money, and I'd only really feel any guilt over stollen models, the physics depending on how in depth you want to go are actually pretty simple, so I usually modify everything I download anyways
honestly I really love this nerd talk a lot
Heh, it is what it is :)
I hear the price of the mod'll be a fiver or so. This mod easily looks to be far more worth than that.
Gonna drop $12 as if I were buying an iRacing car as that's truly the least this deserves. Can't wait to drive (and crash) it.
Glad to hear it dude. Hope you enjoy the car :)
A true “study level” mod. What an incredible car. Chris thanks for this great video. It’s not often we get a chance to hear what goes into the making of a mod like this. Listening to Jackson and then actually driving the car this morning gives a whole new level of appreciation to the driving experience.
Thanks! I've been trying to get a few people to make a video like this with me for a while, but no-one believed that anyone would be interested. Glad I proved them wrong on that one :)
being a huge AC nerd I found this extremely interesting. thanks!
Glad you found it interesting. It's great to be able to take a bit of a peek behind the curtain and see how it all works!
At this point they could almost repackage AC up with all the mods out there and sell it... Assetto Corsa: Swan Song Edition
Raging Beard PC only lol
Heh, yeah it's amazing how far things have progressed since Kunos finished their development cycle a couple of years ago.
hey cat since when can you play AC?
??
Thank you so much for making this video, Chris. It's great to be able to take a look 'under the skin' of your favourite sim and see where it does/doesn't quite line-up and makes you appreciate a well-made mod that much more. The P13c is not a car I'd be particularly interested in, but I'm considering buying it just out of appreciation for the work that went into it alone. The dedication of sim communities across the world and across the type of sims available is what's keeping me convinced you'd be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated group of people in the gaming space.
Thanks dude, though much of the credit goes to Jackson in this case, I just asked some questions and let him do all the hard work!
Nice format Chris, letting the modder explain what they've done themselves.
Yeah, I played around with a bit more involved presentation of the video, but I didn't think it needed me getting in the way in the end :P
I don't think I've ever watched a video I understood so little of and still enjoyed it. Definitively giving this a try tonight!
dude. that car is gonna be a LEGEND on AC
For sure. I think a lot of people are going to panic on their first lap, because the tyres and brakes have a very different behaviour, especially when they're stone cold. But once people get past the first couple of minutes, the car is super intuitive :)
Been waiting for this (the vid and the mod)! Nice to see the wait isn't but a couple more days! Thanks for another great video Chris!
I've been told Sunday is pretty firm :)
Can't wait to pick this up tomorrow. Sounds like an incredible effort
Someone get this guy a major-lucrative job offer or buyout. I'm looking at you, Kunos...
Thanks Chris for yet another great and interesting video, and thanks to IER for their efforts, I will be supporting them by paying for this car on Sunday and I hope that thanks to you publishing this video a lot of other people do the same, and IER will feel that their efforts will be worth it so that they carry on developing other cars and hopefully investigate other cool new features to keep AC growing into not just the sim we all love, but also the best sim out there , and with this on-going development from all the modders it will endure well into the future, this can only be good news and bodes well for all of us sim enthusiasts! :D
Thanks Charles. Though a lot of the credit goes to Jackson for this video. I too am still impressed just how much 'juice' the modding community is managing to squeeze out of Assetto Corsa!
Wow this sounds so amazing! I can't wait to put this masterpiece on the track!
There's a lot of depth to it. Learning how the tyres and brakes behave makes for an interesting first lap or two, but once you understand what it's all about, it's really intuitive!
Absolutely amazing! Granted, I only understood a fraction of what was being discussed, but still.
Haha, yeah, this one definitely isn't light on the technical details. :)
This was a fantastic vid my man!!
Thanks dude, though most of the credit goes to Jackson for this one :)
I’ve bought it and it’s incredible! CH please convince Jackson to convert to RF2. Best AC mod of all time! Prototypes are my favourite car to drive and this is easily the best LMP ever made! Thanks for promoting this and raising awareness, I’m so happy driving this beast ! Thank you
Thanks James - I wouldn't hold your breath on an RF2 conversion. I did mention the possibility when we first started talking about making these videos, and the response wasn't all that favourable. :P
This was really informative. Thank you!
Thanks for watching dude :)
This is going to be spectacular!
Really can't wait to try this car!
It's a good'un!
I'm looking forward to trying it, Ideal for a long Sunday.
Splendid insight. Thanks for that.
Awesome insider information. Thank you.
Thanks for watching Jon :)
Chris Haye Having been deeply involved with sportscar racing for the last 20 years, which included 9 x 24 Hours of Le Mans, I appreciate your depth of technical knowledge.
Bought it cus of this video :) Going to have to get your setup crib sheet and the pesky suspension spreadsheet loaded up now!
This is brilliant!!!
Amazing content...fascinating technical stuff. Just let your friends who aren't simracers get a taste of this next time they say "all you do is play video games."
Friends? Haha!
As I had been wondering and based on what Jackson noted, this is a concept LMP based on circa 2013 car? Interesting stuff Chris, thanks!
It would serve well to google the cars in the 2013 ALMS season :)
Is this based on the ARX 03C?
Yes indeed it it is
I'm hyped man
That has been fucking GREAT!! Thank you!
SOLD!
If this guy isn't working for rf2, Kunos or iRacing like tomorrow.... They messed up.
I have no idea what he's talking about and I probably won't buy this mod but I'm super impressed.
So...technically...most of these mods could be applied to the vanilla cars?
Not without individually redoing each of them. As I've said in these comments a few times, the P13 uses nearly 200 physics files versus the 50 or so of Kunos content. The amount of work involved is significantly greater.
Do the cars have running lights in the back ? Looks like only the brake lights worked..just something i noticed great job on this mod a whole new level going into the physics and all. ..mad respect!
Running lights shown in the first shot :)
Ok i missed that great work
if kunos can open up and work with all the amazing people in the modding community then they could make ac2 the absolute top of the line sim for a long time.
First again! Keep up the great vids
Thanks dude :)
I hope Race Room Racing take note and raise their game, competition in the sim world is a good thing
Is this something you could do to all the cars in game with a copy and paste of files or would you have to go into each car individually?
Very much a manual process that's completely car specific. The P13 uses nearly 200 files for the physics, while your typical mod car (or Kunos car) uses about 50.
@@jacksonp.928 I wish i had the patience and know how to do anything like that..love most everything about ac but with this it prob makes it like rf2 which is my fav maybe even better.?
Plan on doing any other cars or updating existing content in ac? Excited to try it out
@@ericcline9146 We'll see. Nothing to the scope of the P13 in the near future, but we have a free Ferrari GT3 in the works.
Very interesting listen so many thanks for that. I truly wish we could get a link to the mod on RD, I would then be able to use her in some events.
Can you not race modes from outside of RD in the RD clubs then? I could have sworn I have seen RD events using the RSS stuff in the past. Though, that could be my imagination :P
@@ChrisHaye I truly wish I could Chris..RSS did put up a link on RD so all was good ...I am sure we would generate interest and sales for the modder.
@@craigdunkley RD now requires commission (which would add up to 25% loss per sale for us with normal expenses included) and the signing of a contract I'd have to lie on (others have apparently done the latter already), so I took a pass.
@@jacksonp.928 That is a darn shame, but understandable, I obviously was not aware of the 25%
I purchased this mod with the hope of borrowing a few ideas to fix the suspension of a road car I'd like to improve in-game, but all the .ini files are garbled! Is this by design or are the data.acd extraction techniques I'm using wrong?
I know this is an old video, but I really hope the car talking in this video gets a hired by Kunos!!
Have yall seen the way the car bounces rolling onto bumps? I haven't seen anything as realistic as that yet. I really need to try this mod. I dont even have assetto corsa. This car has a lot of potential to become a staple for this team. Im really excited for this project to come full circle. And if these changes are better than the original,--- man please make a game yourselves guys lol. I'm sorry for hyping this up so much. I personally love this specific car. Everything he says feels like he knows what he's talking about. Ok I'm done.
Jimmy broadbent, Please try this mod.
... and now he has :)

Heh, beat me to it :)
@@LilSki3 many thanks ;)
Need more prototypes challenge ls
Hmmm....dont know what I have done wrong? I have the newest Shaders Patch version 205 and I installed it like the manuals show. In my car library I can find and click on the car but when I wanna start a session it says Race csncelled or Game crashed?? Can anyone help me??
Okey I managed it myself;) everything works now. Really great car and a pleasure to drive
I am over the moon to see development like this . Kunos made a big mistake moving on AC Competizione. They should have hired a focus group consisting of the makers of the shaders patch, IER Simulations and Race Sim Studios to officially revamp the Sim and sell it as an full game price dlc
what irl model its based?
Will the wing angles be animated so I can see the wing change as I change setups? Same with the tire textures?
Yes, no
So the tires won't change but wings will?
So this is definitely not a real life prototype.... But if it was would it be the HPD ARX-03c? Or something else?
I mean, it sure does look similar :)
What is the real life name of this car?
Can anyone help me installing these kind of mods.. shaders etc?
Download content manager and buy a licence, then download Sol from race department and follow the install instructions carefully.
I’ve installed several hundreds of mods over the past years.. I’m having trouble with this one for some reason..
Make sure you install the version of the shaders mod that comes bundled with the car download.
Ok that’s something I did not do. I noticed content selections I didn’t recognize. In other words I couldn’t find matches in the folders locations to drag and drop
Biggest problem with these Amazing mods are, Who will we race with?
Club or league racing only really. But, that's the only place you're likely to get good racing in AC these days anyway, outside of SRS of course.
Next step for Ilya: Modding the rF2 tyre model into AC. 🤣
God, no, please god no, noooooooooooooo.
Why no?
@@ArchOfficial Because tires would finally make sense in AC?
I would love to have the force feedback from rF2. AC FFB feels like being served wet cardboard after playing rF2.
@@Logan912 AC tires are probably the overall most accurate tire in sims if we ignore the kerb of death and assume we don't have tire manufacturer's internal data. Unless you have *all* of the data like a manufacturer, then rFactor (1), not 2, is more accurate. Hell, F1 teams run rFactor Pro because they can plug in their tire stuff, and nowadays it's Assetto Corsa Pro, but just for the graphics and UI I'm told.
You've never devved a tire for rFactor 2 nor for Assetto Corsa nor for a pacejka sim like rFactor 1, so you don't know and you'll just parrot what you've heard. Just trust me. Even if rFactor 2's model is the 'most advanced' or whatever doesn't mean there's anything in rFactor 2 that's accurate inherently.
Honestly when well they just cut the middel man and just make their own game?
Get RF2, you dont need to do anything ;)
Sorry dude, no VR no Subscribe. I am not a Flat-Earth racer
OMG! Os this a video about criticizing what's wrong with Kunos physic's values?? Well, how can you say something is wrong without even proving your point? Not a good thing at all, I guess the physics for this mod is way off reality then.
Hey Kunos..
How about giving this guy a call eh? Yes, your engineers/coders may have more experience and knowledge but he seems like he actually cares about his work.
I'm just saying..give him a call or send him a get well card..ANYTHING!
Heh, there's no doubt that Jackson and the team really car about what they're doing. But, I have to say the same is tru of the Kunos guys, they live and breathe this stuff. Sometimes it's hard to see that with larger businesses because, well, they're businesses.
Chris Haye O, yeah definitely true.
I would just like to see someone like this get a job offer or be recognized in a way (which is what you did, and that's why I like your channel) the amount of detail he went into its just crazy hard to code and very time consuming.
I was unaware he was working with a team. I thought he done by himself. I just know how hard or is to compete with these bigger companies. In the last 3 years I've noticed that alot of sim racing hardware companies (mostly selling hardware mods) ask way to much for their products. I especially noticed this right away with one company selling a T3PA/Pro load cell conversion for almost $200 USD, and I recognized the components they used were from a Chinese company I had dealt with before. So, I asked them to give me a price on a bulk buy for the main pieces and very quickly noticed that not only was it overly priced but way worse than that, and not to mention alot of buyers of this kit complained about it's price and how poorly the kit performed for that price. So, I thought can I make a kit that is massively cheaper and also perform like a Fanatec V1-V2 clubsport brake? (Without the brake feeling like your pushing against a load cell brick wall, without any travel or modulation, or adjustability like the expensive kit?) So, I built a load cell prototype with a hydraulic shock w/adjustable spring tension and overall brake travel adjustability and found I could do this for way less and also be better all around, cause a LC kit that cost about the same as a full Fanatec CSL pedal kit makes no sense at all.
My point is that I get the feeling that some of these companies are just in sim racing for the money before the "bubble pops" and they don't realize their crazy overpriced products are what's gonna kill this sport and I would really hate to see that happen. The best parts of sim racing and the community I find is done by the people for the people, but when your like myself just trying to get your small company off the ground and sell the exact same thing the big cats are selling only cheaper and sometimes better, it's damn near impossible to get any kind of support especially when you're starting at the bottom. So, when I see any group of people or one person trying to improve sim racing with passion being the driving force and not greed, I just want to tell everyone about that person and what it is they're doing. I guess in trying to get financial help to try and get my many ideas out there to help the community, especially the younger ones who don't have alot of money to improve their gear.
I've found this dark underbelly of this business and alot of it is from some of the biggest names in this business. I've repaired so many wheel bases from a company (who's not Fanatec wink*) that simply put their customers through the ringer when trying to get their wheel repaired..
Not answering emails for 8 months. Taking over a year to get their wheel repaired, being charged $85 for a psu cable, major Quality control oversights etc etc.. if their gonna charge these rediculous prices than they better be borderline perfect and have good customer service cause it's simply not fair to make a few bucks trying to save someone else from spending hundreds $$$.
So, again I would love to see more people of the sim racing community who are passionate about this and want to see it live a long life in controlof these..
Basically I think it would be awesome to see these guys get job offers cause let's just be honest ACC pulled some shady promises and let some pretty major issues slip through the cracks on their official release.
Now, I don't own ACC cause I can't afford it, but it doesn't take much searching on steam or forums to see people are pissed about that release and some of the things they did. Will they fix it eventually? Of course I'm sure they will, but you can't take people's money and pull stuff like that and not expect them to trust you again, and that's what kills these companies and I don't wanna see that and neither does anyone else.
I just realized how long this is I'm terribly sorry =( guess I'm just venting. I'm sure theirs a point to my ramblings I hope, and that I got to my point eventually.
Anyway. Take care and btw your videos are just terrific and I really love the fact that you give people like this exposure. You have no idea how much it helps this sport.
