  • Welcome to the final part of this sim racing setup guide. This video details how I built a setup for the Audi R8 GT3 car in Assetto Corsa, thereby putting into practice some of the things I’ve talked about over the last 11 videos. This series of videos is intended to give beginners an overview of how to set up a car in any of the modern racing sims.
Throughout all 12 videos, I have been describing in detail the various aspects of car setup and how to bring all of them together to build a car setup.
The first 10 videos explain the ins and outs of each setup area, trying to explain the how and the why. Then, video 11 starts to bring everything together and talk through the process of building a setup. Finally, I’ve included video 12 as a case study of an Assetto Corsa setup that I created for the Audi R8 GT3.
If you're watching this video at the time it goes live, I plan to have all 13 parts uploaded within the next week. If you want to skip to any specific sections of the Sim Racing Setup Guide you can do so using the following links:

Hopefully this guide will be useful for those looking to improve their understanding of setups in iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Rfactor, Project Cars, RaceRoom etc. If you have anything to add, please leave a comment, and if it’s helpful to others, then I’ll pin I to the top of the page.

This series should be made mandatory for every new sim racer to watch! As a new one myself I found it very helpful to get a grip of an otherwise quite unappealing subject to approach on your own. Very well done!

YES! Another group of videos, with “general” advice (obviously all cars would be different) for how to set up for: Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Monaco, Suzuka, Interlagos, Brands Hatch, Watkins Glen, Bathurst, LeMans, etc
There’s a tiny little bit of work for you to get your teeth into Chris Haye, hehe 😀

Yes please! A couple more case studies with different cars / tracks / issues would make this already awesome series even better.
Thanks for the excellent videos, which have to a large extent de-mystified setup, and already an an impact on my lap times and (more importantly) enjoyment.

As a younger man i have messed around on racing games for years. Now as a older guy and have free time i have decided to explore Sim racing.
I think most that dabble in online racing whether like me it was grand tourism and Forza, we rely on finding or buying set ups from others. As you mention, those set ups that are so good for them, maybe not so good for me.
I really thank you for putting all that time in to making this series, as i know feel i have some clue in how to go about things. Great stuff.

It's been a year and a few months on from the original release date of these tutorials and boy, am I glad I found them. I don't play Assetto Corsa (yet) or any of the super-serious sim racing games but I do play a lot of F1 2019. I used to always want to adjust the different settings of all of the parts, and I know my way a bit around cars so I figured out what some of the stuff does, but having it explained to me so well in video form helped me out a LOT. It's crazy how much your lap times can improve when you deviate from the stock settings the game gives you! Thank you a lot for this series, it's mind-boggling why this series isn't more popular!

I’m taking part in a Gran Turismo Sport tournament and in two weeks is gonna be the first date that we are allowed to actually tune up the cars. I came to CZcams for some video on how to set up a car properly and found a whole playlist created by an amazing human being. Thanks a lot this really helped me understand many on the things I was confused about. Like dampers, gears,LSD and anti roll bars.

  • @JReaLBiz86

I've enjoyed every bit of this guide. I made myself a setup cheat sheet not long ago and I've found plenty of utilities to help me understand the components over the years. This guide brings it all together. Every part is well explained, and to go as far as to do a setup video explaining your setup/thought process shows you really have a passion not only for sim racing, but in helping others get better at what they should be doing and what they should be thinking about when testing. You've helped me make some adjustments to my approach, and I'll be more comfortable in feeling I'm adjusting something for the right reason.
A setup depends on the driver and the track as much as it does the car. A different driving style could mean different adjustments need to be made, but due to curbs or bumps or temperature in the track surface it may be better to choose another component to get a similar result. I understand that better now that I've watched this playlist, and that's only a small part of the knowledge you dropped. I'm just happy I've learned something from this community, I never thought I'd get so much value back from this hobby I love. Thanks again for your amazing content!

Thanks a lot for making this series, even if I’m 3 years late to the party. I’ve seen these values quite a bit in games like Forza, and while it’s commendable that Forza tries to explain them at all the explanations blurred together to me. Now that I’m dipping my toe into proper sims (which I’ve owned for years), those setup screens seem much less intimidating. Capping the series off with an example from start to finish was just icing on the cake. Fantastic series overall, and I’m sure I’ll come back to it after Fanatec finally ships my wheel

Well Done Video Series I've watched most and will watch the rest. You have a talent for educational videos I'll say that. The thing on setups for a beginner being a beginner myself is don't listen to people who say setting up a car is for final .10 differences in speed. I just started with IRacing a month or so ago and I know EVERY car I've been in at the least needed tire pressure and camber adjustments for good heavy breaking on any track. Default setups under heavy breaking always sends me into a spin. few clicks here and there and the car feels like its planted. I'm currently testing my understeer situation and loved the advice to break down the turn into parts. Excellent advice. I'm still trying to train myself to properly differentiate those changes in feel.

I use raceroom because it is free. I found this racing sim on your other CZcams video. I use competitions, so I can see my results on the leaderboards. I am happy I found your channel, and knowing this knowledge helps me drive any car I use, to it limits. I come from America. Great series of videos! I tried and failed to make a guide like that several times already. So I know how hard it is to not mess up when trying to convey the mountain of extremely tangled minefield of a knowledge that are setups in such simple short form. Really impressed by how it turned out, and the positive response you got, Kudos!
Seeing as it is the end, some nitpicks to consider in the future come to mind:
    - front and rear ARBs are interchangeable, there is zero difference* between softening front arb and stiffening rear. And while I must say that it "sounds right" to use front ARB to balance corner entry, there is no reason not to use rear ABR there and vice versa.
    - You say that rebound should be > bump but never note that in cases where damper stiffness is shown in "clicks" this difference can already be present in the clicks. So a newbie could double down on it with clicks, creating extreme difference.
As always there's more, but i understand the scope of the video and you are doing brilliant job at it, so im going to cut it and let people enjoy your content. :) Cheers!
    * - We could find some extreme cases where it's not true, but in principle both ARBs influence the same one variable: "roll stiffness difference between front and rear axle", which is responsible for load distribution and therefore grip balance.

Still the same Chris video quality as the first video ...just perfection , from wording to introduction explanation and tone .There very little we can do to help him except one " minor " thing .Patreon ... how we Chris friends must do ; helping him with this project /dream/ mmmh job ? Hobby ...honestly whenever I jump into one of you video I'm always Hypnotized wether is a job or just a well made content. Chris Haye .What else? :) ( probably copypasta a media).

Setups are still a dark art to me, but you have helped shine a little light on them. I'm not good enough yet to be able to identify what to adjust to get a car stable for me, but hopefully I can start to use your tips in the future. My main issue is confidence in the front end of most cars I drive. It feels vague in nearly every car I get into. This could be my wheel (Logitech DFGT) and if it is then I'm stuck with it as I can't afford better LOL. Or, it could be just me as a driver, which I'm more inclined to believe :)

That was really good and I loved the final video really tied everything up. However (and it might just be me wishing for more videos in this series because it was that amazing) but perhaps another car track combo case study would be nice. However as is the series was still super useful and I will definitely be referring to it in future

Great series, looking forward to working with that cheat sheet. Side note, I really wish Assetto Corsa would let you practice a single section over and over.
