in my opinion, music is a universal language, wars should never happen,if those responsible for those wars listened more to music then we might all live in a better place..
Damn, coming back to this version after a decade, and I'm still blasted away how neat Stevies and Stigns voices harmonize. And the band is so damn tight. Loving it
That transition at 4:54 was ridiculous. that transition from roxanne back to higher ground tho.....speechless Stevie wonder singing the chorus of Roxanne almost got me in tears
The man's innocent childlike humility is so endearing. Keeps screaming STING like he's the biggest fan. So self effacing. And Sting too you can see his joy in performing on the same stage as this legend.
Sting fucking killed it here! Ive never been a fan of his voice but he slayed it on this night. His voice sounds fucking metallic and raw here. Dope asf.
Man! Stevie Wonder is one artiste whose voice has stayed the same and has even gotten better with age. What range! What power! No signs of aging at all. Hats Off!
Metric modulation! They use the quarter triplet hits in the solo section to bring the time back to a shuffle feel. Tempo didn't really change... just the feel.
Debbie emerson Emerson No, The Police changed key on a bunch of songs on their reunion tour so Sting wouldn't have to sing so high. Even on the early tours, he would get terrible laryngitis because he couldn't hit those notes without hurting himself night after night.
On my way to work, listening on my earphones, and I almost had to stop, such was the kick. It was just as if Roxanne a Wonder and not a Sting song. Tears? You bet it. We are so lucky to enjoy them both, as today. May they live forever. Music is the fucking best!
I know you posted this two years ago, but it's an interesting thought. Sting is probably underrated at bass playing. He does his....Sting thing. I'm no authority, but I feel like I've heard reggae, ska, jazz, and even straight ahead rock. If it is something where Sting is running things, he can strap on that bass, do his "Sting thing" and make the song work to his strengths. I've never really felt sorry for Sting until this Stevie groove kicked in and for the first time, no room (at first) for sting thing. All I could think as I heard Stevie's bass player was "poor sting, his bass playing is not built for this life. He knew and it looked he knew the core of the song, but some six string bass playing monster is just casually killing it off stage
The way he can phrase vocally while playing an entirely different part on the bass is awesome. I sound like a retard if I even try to talk while playing, much less sing. What talent on this track.
Watching Stevie Wonder perform brings me to tears because I've never seen anyone else perform with such heart, passion, and joy. For him, it is ALL about the music and sharing that amazing feeling with the whole world.
Sting did a GREAT job. It is a challenge for ANY bassist to keep up with this song; Higher Ground is not for the faint at heart. Bless Sting for the job he did, he was awesome. Glad to see him sing/play Roxanne, too! Nicely done!
@@pman272 Ding, ding, ding. Not taking away from Sting (great player in his own right), but all the signature slides and funk weren't from Sting's axe.
Micheal Jackson, prince,Whitney all gone. If Steve was not with us, we would feel empty.with all respect to other artists. Sting is so great and lovely artist. When steve leaves this earth, the world will be silent for a while
WOW! That middle section with the triplet lick to get back to higher ground was very cool and then the ending? Only the best can pull these kind of tricks on ya! Sort of unreal man! Love you Stevie and Sting!! Great arrangement and super musicianship!
I can’t explain how much I love hearing these guys play together!! They’re all so gel’d together, everything’s tight and I love how Stanley Randolph (Drummer) holds everything together!! His playing is so tasteful! I don’t know how he does it but his placement and timing is impeccable!!! Not forgetting to mention that Stevie Wonder and Sting on a stage together. Magic!
@Kasper Kleine Tank Yeah, but Stevie doesn't want to do the basic rehearsal stuff. He wants to come in and be ready to perform. That's the job of a music director - get the band ready.
@Kasper Kleine Tank This hasn't anything to do with "having the greater say". The musical director is responsible for who plays what. I guess Stevie is the boss of the entire endeavor. But that just means that he delegates this task to the musical director.
I'd say Sting definitely remembers his jazz roots. Exemplary generosity, musicianship, and recognition by both Sting and Stevie. Two legends growing each others' stature.
Fili2009able Nathan Watts! Stevie's one and only bass player from the get...nobody can hold it down but Nathan! solid and they are locked and nobody has the combination but them, and they can't unlock it if they tried! Go back to any year, any performance of any song, even the same song, always effortless and the songs breathe and grow as time goes on.....I love you Stevie, with all my heart and soul.....and Nate, you keep on keepin' on brother. God Bless you both with many, many, many more years of playing together.
Tremendous backup band. I've been lucky enough to have seen both of these geniuses live in my lifetime and as impressive as Sting's backup is, having 22 of the most talented people playing on one stage as Stevie has is just breathless.
My God ...................without words................................Sting Bass...............Sting voice.................and Stevie..........................
I would’ve LOVED to have seen this performance live. What an extraordinary collaboration between both iconic’s. Excellent sound and energy! I also want to give 💯 hands down to all the session musicians who were absolute flawless with sound, timing and dedication. Thank you thank you!

I agree too.
I was able to regain myself by listening to this.
Thanks.
That was ridiculously complex. Amazing talent from Stevie, Sting and every band member. So special.
Sting isn't playing until Roxanne

So wonderful colors and rythms coming from there. And Stenely Randolph gives it unbelievable power.

That was soooooo freakin' BAD-ASS!!! Sting and Stevie Wonder... two legends right there!

Sting fucking killed it here! Ive never been a fan of his voice but he slayed it on this night. His voice sounds fucking metallic and raw here. Dope asf.
Sting has always had such a distinct and unique voice. And of course the one and only Stevie.

Stevie's drummer holds it together. Bloody awesome how he can change tempo on a dime.
I saw two drummers.
^ Stevie’s Percussion Section!
doing count in for percussion..well trying to as I'm learning drums atm..great drumming

A real bad ass drummer.
Holy shit Stevie's singing on Roxanne's chrous was spectacular.

As a bassplayer to watch Sting playing (on his songs) off-beat, in the opposite moment I would touch the string, drives me crazy every time. So great!
I know you posted this two years ago, but it's an interesting thought. Sting is probably underrated at bass playing.

Sting is a perfectionist. Even though he looks like he's having a great time, I'm sure he was cursing himself afterwards.
The way he can phrase vocally while playing an entirely different part on the bass is awesome. I sound like a retard if I even try to talk while playing, much less sing. What talent on this track.
Its so cute when Stevie says sorry for forgetting to come in with the 'Put on the red light' backing vocal. 02:50
GOD GAVE US TWO MEGA LEGENDS THANK U GOD
Stevie's band is so tight, that their SWEAT falls off of them in time...

He's never seen anyone like that either though...
Luca Nogara its been almost proven that he fakes being blind though lol
He said it in Sir Duke
I first saw SW live in ‘81. 41 years ago. He’s still my go to guy. 1000 years from now, he will still be played. Like Mozart.
1,000 years from now nobody will have ever heard of these two…. even IF there are humans still alive.
Not nearly as much as Sting or Prince. Sting has done more complex interesting music than Stevie Wonder, so has Prince
Probably the Best Duo performance I've ever seen!!! Stevie & Sting! Props to the Drummer Stanley Randolph! Awesome drumming!
