    I would argue that Nadal's 2008 RG final is the most dominating final whereas the 2017 RG run is arguably the greatest grand slam performance. Both titles were won without dropping a set, but in 2017, his opponents never scored more than 4 games during any set.
    EDIT: Thanks for all the likes. I definitely agree with the points saying that his 2008 run was the best. Both the 2008 and 2017 performances were phenomenal. To me, he was the more experienced and complete player in 2017 which offset his older age and weaker physical strength.

    I disagree given the circumstances of playing the French Open in mid October in 2020, demolishing Djokovic in the process has to be his finest and dominating performance at Roland Garros ever. Many thought including me, winning this edition, given his total lack of match practice would be a step too far. Instead the greatest ever clay court player ever to play the game, won yet again without dropping a set. In 2008 he was at the peak of powers in 2020 he dominated his opponents long after his peak. I always use this tournament as a reference point to how incredible Nadal played. • @michelez715
      @michelez715 Před 6 měsíci +1

      That 2009 loss to Soderling is understandable, imo. If you know anything abt Rafa, or read his autobiography, you will know that he is in an exceptionally close knit family, who provide his stability and security since when he was a kid. In 2009, after his spectacular AO win, on the plane going back from Oz, his father told him he and Rafa's mum were separating. It was a devastating blow for him, and took him the rest of the year to recover from. He wd have won RG that year, and defended his Wimbledon title and won, imo, but the mental and emotional stress was too much for him, which I think left him more susceptible to injuries as well. It was if the foundation of his life was torn away.
      Rafa recovered by 2010, as proved by his wins at RG and Wimbledon, but I'm sure that devastating parents' break up of 2009, cost him the rest of that year, which started so well in Australia.
      I don't know abt his parents current status, but they appear together at various tournaments, so they may have got back together, or reached an amicable arrangement for the sake of Rafa and his sister.

      Alexander Kings 2005-07 Nadal wasn’t as strong. That was his main weakness. By 2008-2010 he just had that perfect blend of aggression mixed with athleticism. In 2011 he was beatable because his backhand was weaker and his serve lost a bit as well, but then in 2012 and 2013 he fine tuned a bit and dominated again. These last few years he’s absolutely mastered aggression but obviously isn’t as athletic as he once was. It’d be interesting to watch 2017 Nadal vs 2008 Nadal, but my money’s still on 2008.

    Nadal's 2008 RG campaign was just scary, 2010, 2017 or 2019 don't even come close to this Nadal, he was a ferocious beast who played even better than in 2007, b y this time he developed fast and relentless all court game with even more lethal (if that was possible) top spin forehand and more offensive mindset and that proved to be the key for his total dominance at RG, Queens and later Wimbledon (Federer was able to make it to five sets in the final due his excellent service disposition, but Nadal was dominant in the rallies); I watched four of Nadal's matches from this edition of RG campaign (against Nieminen, Almagro, Djokovic and Federer) and the higlights don't really capture the feeling of utter helplessness on behalf of his opponents that were just getting obliterated with each punishing blistering forehand or backhand pass; semifinal against Djoko was the biggest challenge for Nadal and you could already see that Nadal wouldn't have it easy against the stubborn Serbian in the future, Djoko even broke Nadal when he was serving for the match, but could not handle the pressure from the Spaniard in the ensuing tie-break

A mi se quieren salir los ojos cuando leo comentarios "SOBRE TODO DE ESPAÑOLES" que no dan el mérito y que mas bien menosprecian a este super humano que tiene un espíritu de competencia y superación que dentro del deporte sólo he visto en Michael Jordan. Alguien a quien en su adolescencia le dijeron que no podría competir al máximo nivel debido a su lesión crónica dicho sea de paso en las rodillas (Nadal a jugado todos los partidos de su vida con molestias en las rodillas) que afortunadamente no dañaron su espíritu de lucha y que supo canalizar hasta acostumbrarse a eso para dejar de ser víctima de su dolor y apoderarse de el. Rafael Nadal me ha dado algunos de los momentos más vibrantes que yo haya vivido frente a una pantalla e incluso fuera de ella.
