Police Officer Arrested for DUI Tries Blackmailing Arresting Officer

- Things start to get personal around 33:43.
From the report of Hall County Sheriff's Deputy J.W. Thompson, edited for clarity and brevity: On November 10, 2018 at approximately 1:20 am I was enforcing the speed limit on I-985 N near Friendship Road when I observed a maroon 1995 Dodge Ram traveling at high rate of speed. I visually estimated the vehicle's speed to be 90 MPH and LIDAR confirmed its speed at the same. I activated the emergency equipment on my marked patrol vehicle and accelerated to catch up to the vehicle. When I caught up to the Dodge, it braked abruptly and pulled over into the right shoulder.
I exited my patrol vehicle and approached the driver's side window of the Dodge. I asked the driver, identified as Adam Davis for his driver's license, which he provided. I recognized Davis because he is a City of Gainesville Police Officer. Davis stated, "I got my backup weapon on me" and asked my name. When asked what he had to drink, Davis stated "Not a damn thing." I asked Davis "Not a thing at all?" and he replied "No sir." I could smell an odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from Adam Davis' breath, which he explained with "My wife's been drinking, man."
While performing the HGN evaluation, Davis began loudly yelling my name. I informed Davis that he was beginning to be belligerent, and he lowered his voice and spoke to me in a normal tone. I again gave Davis the instructions for the HGN test. I observed horizontal gaze nystagmus in both left and right eye while checking for lack of smooth pursuit.
I inventoried Davis' vehicle prior to impound. Terry's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene. While en route the jail. Davis expressed that he would like to submit to the state administered chemical test.
[Omitted from Thompson's report: any mention of the many other things Davis alleged.]
Upon arriving to the jail, I read Davis the implied consent notice again. He agreed to submit to the state administered chemical test of his blood. Davis also stated that he would like his own independent chemical test. Once we entered the jail, Davis repeatedly stated that he would submit to the state's chemical test if he was required to, but he was not doing it freely and voluntarily. Davis advised that he wanted to comply with state law if he was required to submit to a test. While sitting in the chair where blood draws are conducted, Davis continued to state that he would allow the nurse to draw his blood, but he was not doing so freely and voluntarily. After conferring with the nurse, Sgt. Smith and others, we felt that Davis' willingness to submit to the chemical test of his blood was not voluntary due to his contradictory statements.
I again read Davis the implied consent notice and this time asked for chemical test of his breath. He agreed to submit, but again advised that submitting to the state because the law requires him to, but not freely and voluntarily. I advised Adam Davis that it was up to him to provide a sample into the instrument; Davis advised that he had to breathe out to live. Davis eventually provided a sufficient sample into the Intoxilyzer 9000, which returned a BAC of .144%, confirming the earlier PBT reading of .142%.
Davis was charged with speeding and DUI.
He resigned the next Saturday.
In a 2013 Gainesville Police annual report, Davis is noted as having received an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for making 25 DUI arrests that year. Davis pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving and was sentenced to 12 months probation.

Asking a police officer to turn off their body camera needs to be an automatically arrestable obstruction charge regardless of whatever else is going on.
Ehh I could understand some scenarios where someone might ask for that but it has absolutely nothing to do with anything illegal. I don't want my face to ever be on this CZcams channel or any other channel. However, I have no intention of ever committing a crime lol.
@@Julie28Davis if you have no reasonable expectation of privacy (ie: you're in public) then you shouldn't be asking a public servant to turn off their camera. Your wish not to be on CZcams is irrelevant. Anyone in the world can legally record you and put you on CZcams. Public is public.
I’m with ya all the way till you said regardless of whatever else is going on. The problem with hard and fast rules are there’s always situations that pop up which weren’t even considered or thought of. There’s always an exception to the rule.
Nah, not illegal to ask, but if the officer pretends to shut it off, then you say something stupid, then the fact that you asked the officer to turn it off should be admissible.
So let’s infringe on freedoms of speech? Because I can ask you to do stuff all day long, now do you need to do these things?

When will these men in uniform realize that it’s not like the old days. We have body cams for a whole reason. Had this been in the early 2000’s and earlier, a cop could get away with something like this. It’s no telling how many officers were able to get away with highway robbery because of no body cams.

The bullying & cruelty from the back seat was unbelievably disgusting. No wonder “Officer” Davis resigned a week after his lawful DUI stop. He’s acting like a malignant narcissistic-a sociopath. The alcohol just helped set it free. Gross.
If this officer was willing to blackmail him I guarantee you he will try to retaliate against him.

Doubt it. He will be the first person they follow up with he's pretty dumb when drunk, but I doubt he's that stupid to go back and fully fuck himself

He asked the deputy why he was in a BDSM relationship with a married woman when he's married. I'm pretty sure this guy ended up retaliating
Just telling the other cops wife about Molly is retaliation enough. The wife won’t be happy about that, especially if the other cop has all the details to back it up, and I have a feeling he does.

He sued the DA and the judge and won $3 million. Both the judge and the DA lost their law licenses forever.

The officer that arrested this grown child should be commended. He done the job he was hired to do and didn’t care who it was committing the crime. I wish every officer treated these situations the same way.
Lmfao he cheated on his wife!!! Don't be so quick to judge
@big fish that's what I'm over here wondering. He didn't deny it at all. He could have called the guy out on trying to make things up to get him out of the ticket. But another point is, he knows on video it would make his situation worse to make up this Molly affair. It does nothing to help him if the ao's boss finds out he's cheating. I'm inclined to think he's telling the truth.
I just love his "I swear to God, I have had NOTHING to drink." A little bit later, it became "I've had only 1 or 2 beers since 2pm." Then everything goes to hell from there. What a jerk-off. Davis been on the force for nine years on the force, he knows NOT to drink and drive. Walk before you drive (especially at 90mph). DAMN, DAMN, DAMN - Don't ask a fellow officer to forget this one. Then you start to berate him and push his anger buttons in hopes of what? Making his life worse because YOU went out and made your own life a POS. How can Davis do this to a brother officer!!! We already know, because he's a POS. WOW, Davis just gets worse! He is a 100% dyed-in-the-wool A-HOLE filled to the top (listening to him makes me want to puke - I'm so very glad that he resigned from the force). Davis is the biggest POS I've ever seen - I think by this time if I were the officer I would have TASED him in the crotch about a million times.
This might have gone another way in the absence of cameras.
So he should be commended for doing the job he gets paid by tax payers to do? Gtfo

The “it’s going to ruin my career” bs makes me livid. Drinking and driving has the potential to ruin ANY life, not just those with careers in public safety. Maybe you just should not have driven intoxicated?
Exactly, this happened in 2018 when there was 50 different ways for you to get home.
Okay grandma
Exactly, it's not just cops public officials, firemen etc, a lot of people lose their jobs if they get a DUI. That being said, I have known 2 cops who got DUI's but cooperated fully with the process, did all the tests etc. Both of them went back to work. They both were off for about a year while they got help but the department fully supported them through the process. The difference is, both showed they sincerely cared about their careers, accepted responsibility for their mistakes and put in the work they needed to do on themselves.
Personally, I feel like it makes for a better cop. If they have dealt with what it is like to be in trouble and have had to fight their way through what civilians deal with as punishment, they tend to be more compassionate towards people who deserve it. When people commit crimes, there's a couple of different kinds of people. Those who made a mistake and regret it because of knowing they did wrong and want to fix it. Then there's the type that are just criminals and only regret getting caught, don't see their misgivings, won't fix their issues and don't take any responsibility. A good cop can tell the type he's dealing with and treat appropriately based on that. I don't mean let them off, but handling a situation from a place of compassion and offering ways to get help goes a long way with the right type person.
This guy was the poster child for how not to handle it and doesn't seem to take any ownership for his mistakes. He's only pissed off because he got caught and couldn't convince a fellow officer to just let him drive home.
Using his logic I wonder how many "careers" he was more than happy to ruin. And I say happy because I believe a cop showing this character absolutely sees it as ruining someone rather than upholding the law, and he likely gets a perverted sense of delight from "ruining careers".

It's both a functional and somewhat sad precaution - should the stop go south at any point, and for instance, the officer were to be killed, abducted or otherwise, that fingerprint they left can potentially serve as their last testimony (possibly from the grave), identifying that car as one they had contact with and thus the driver as a suspect.

It makes me think what shady things he has done if he was expecting this officer to let him slide and put ppl in danger. How do ask a fellow officer to put his job in jeopardy so you don’t face consequences.

That drunk cop is a jerk! It’s good to see this cop who brings dogs to search people vehicles gets what’s coming to him.
What, he deserves it for using dogs to find drugs in peoples cars? Because he enforces the LAWS that your elected lawmakers enact using the policies and tactics that his department and others have developed and used for decades and trained him to use, not because he was breaking the law himself and put people's lives at risk?
He probably gave up a damn good gig.

Unbuckles himself at 58 mins….

What a piece of work.
Cops who choose to break the law and drink and drive have ZERO RIGHT to pull anyone else over and arrest them for drinking and driving! What a despicable human being!

I believe this cop only arrested him because of the cameras.
Things like this becoming more available to the public, day-by-day, is what's going to end up revamping shit, I think. After a while, the ones who "played nice" while being everyone's fave asshole cop will eventually get fazed out, replaced by people who do the right thing for no other reason than it being the right thing. I hope, anyway.
Unfortunately, men fall to familiar vices. In the case of cops, they are surrounded by vices and crime every day. It takes its toll and many cops experience a phenomenon called "fuck it". It comes down to poor mental health.
In the famous words of Harvey "Two Face" Dent...you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
Yup. How many .08 people did he ruin their lives? Let's keep it fair then. Right?
@Jack Stucki he said later on a couple of times “you can ask anyone in the county, I’m the last person to ask that of”....so based on that I’d assume it’s because he’s known to play by the rules & doesn’t break them for people just because of who they are. That’s just my assumption though...I guess we’ll never really know.

Through slurred almost unintelligble words, he apologised to the colleague who arrested him. Also to the supervisor and his colleagues involved in his arrest. He said he was drunk and for them to go ahead and arrest him, he knew he shouldnt have drunk and drived, he said he disgraced the uniform and he apologised for that, and to his Chief. Said he knew he had broken the law and embarrassed the PD. Said he was ashamed and understood he would be dismissed.
He was not terminated. He was charged with dui, reckless driving and got a suspended jail sentence of 12 months. 12 months probation, and $557 l think, fine. He lost his licence but got a temporary licence to drive to work and home. The PD disciplined him. He was suspended for 7 days, gota 12mnth probationary time , where he was deskbound doing public service duties, ridealongs with officers and answering the phone.
Guess you can call it a second chance. His record showed he was a good officer, got on well with the public, and at his workplace he got on with colleagues, and there hadnt been one complaint from the public or arrestees about his behavior.
