Never played the first splatoon but loving the hell out of this one

Same. I don't even like shooters (online or otherwise) but I'm loving the hell out of Splatoon 2. Played it for 50 hours in the 1st week alone.

As someone who bought the first Splatoon for the Wii U, I'm so glad even more people are experiencing what I experienced back then. It's extremely addicting and fun game!

Sad though that most Nintendo 1st party Switch games are heavily focused on Online Multiplayer like this game Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario kart and yet they couldn't get those online stuff ironed out like connectivity, Voice Chat, lobbies and others.

The online is fine for being free and all, but once they'll start charging for online next year they better step up their game or they'll face huge backlash.

No mention of the game's aesthetic qualities? I've always felt that Splatoon's unironic Nickelodeon-radical vibe is one of it's greatest draws, it's honest, unashamed and absolutely gorgeous.
Its all been discussed back when splat1 came out lol, i feel like that one had the vibe moreso than this one
I still feel like it's worth mentioning because it's something so unique and charming about Splatoon in general, but you've got a point.

Maybe it's nice to point out in the comments that they changed the Salmon Run schedule. My guess is that Nintendo chose to do it like this to keep the matchmaking all right and have every region a day 'perfect' for their time zone. Now they changed the time from 12 hours to 24 hours. So there's no struggling anymore that you get off work and it's gone already. It's still not ideal but at least it's somethign to be excited about. ^^
Mr. Lomin 24 hours and every other day, that's pretty decent. With all the ranks in salmon run that players are split into, it does make some sense that they'd limit its availability in order to funnel as many players into it as possible.
Well, I can understand Nintendo's decision to limit the Salmon Run's viability. It's just to never split the game into two modes just like what happened in CoD

I hate that some people instantly bash on the motion aiming without trying it. More shooters should use it.
Jorge Gutierrez Xbox One controller doesn't have gyro.
To the point of the wireless issues, at least Direct Console to Console. If you go to the Shoal, hold L+R and LS Click for a few seconds at the menu, it switches it to LAN mode, which can use an ethernet cable or your wifi to connect to other switches in the same household. This solved all my connection issues locally.

Well it's a sequel with the same art direction as the original, so I can see why they didn't feel the need to comment on it again, they probably did in the GT review for the first Splatoon.
I bought Splatoon 2 to relax and enjoy, wasn't expecting this game to be filled with so many tryhards. Lol I probably only win like one out of every ten matches. I enjoyed the first game but I played it at release, for about a week or two, before everyone became a professional. I only have the patience to be competitive in one game at a time, that's Battlefield for me so I doubt I'll stick with Splatoon 2 for long. Love Salmon Run though! Hope they support that with new maps as well.
I hate tower control, Slat Zones is ok, but I love Rainmaker!

This is the best Splatoon 2 review out there, the other ones feel rushed and incompetent, failing to bring up key points. I wonder if it's Nintendo's fault for sending Review copies too close to release maybe? Whatever, keep up the good work!
Great review allies, gotta say though, ive never had a problem with disconnects, and ive spent a ton of time sitting outside playing online, where my range is conciderably low.

I've honestly had zero disconnects during an actual match since launch day, played wifi the first couple of days before I bought an ethernet adapter. Great review though Blood!
Would be great to mention that the game is getting 1 full year of FREE DLC (Maps, Gear, Weapons) and 2 years of Splatfest.

Salmon run is available 24/7 now for anybody concerned by that point. It wasn't when they were making the review, but they changed it the other day due to fan feedback.
I play with wifi and have zero issues... did you try with another wireless router before jumping into conclusions about the wifi stability?
I never imagined myself as a shooter player, and yet I sunk over 500 hours into the first one.
When will I finish Zelda, when there's always this sweeeet Splatoon2 to play a quick match or two. Or 20.
I was just wondering, is this game too similar with not enough new stuff added from the first splatoon? It seems as this is one of the biggest reasons it's getting worse reviews, along with some other minor things. I haven't played the first one, so it shouldn't bother me anyway.

Took you guys awhile. I'm rank 10 and I think I'm already done with this game. Too many weird Nintendo design choices for online that keep causing a disconnect for me to really enjoy Splatoon 2's multiplayer.
Splatoon 1's netcode gave me so much grief, after the August update it was unplayable for me.
This is my favorite game on Switch so far, even though my collection is starting to become quite sizable:
-Splatoon 2 (awesome)
-GoNNER (great)
-MK8 Deluxe (great)
-NBA Playgrounds (great after the shotclock + new players update ... LARRY BIRD!)
-Overcooked (lovely)
-Zelda: Breath of the Wild ( meh ok, no jk, great)
-Snipperclips (sweet)
-Fast RMX (ok)
-Snake Pass (meh)
-Death Squared (haven't played it yet, looking forward to getting some buds together)
So yeah, best new Nintendo IP in ages.
I'm having fun with this game, but it has some of the worst online functionality I've seen in a long time. It's hard to believe that I cant form a team of friends in a regular match.

Don’t forget that Nintendo said that there will be more new updates for Splatoon 2 in the future. Also, it's best to also purchase a Nintendo Switch Ethernet Adaptor/Port for other online multiplayer games on Switch.

I really wished there was matches against bots like in Maio Kart 8. KInda disappointing. And Voice chat is garbage is this game.
What a wonderful game for kids. Nintendo really is good at making kid friendly games! Haven't touch my switch yet, but my kids love it.
My buddy is 30, I'm 34, and we're loving every minute of Splatoon 2. Sure it's kid friendly. But more importantly, they're just fun games.

Precisely why we decided on a single digit scale for our review scores. It helps to differentiate games and puts more weight behind our decisions.

That would be the case if game review scales were normal. Unfortunately tough, they start at 6 and end pretty much at 9, which gives you 4 review scores with this system only. The purpose of single digit scores is therefore to make use of the available scale rather than to create fan bragging opportunities.
Actually, that's precisely the reason why review scales are inflated. Games that get below a certain score will end up without reviews and you are left comparing all the good games anyways.
Moreso, what you are saying about the content of the review is true as well. The content of the review is more important than the score, as you may like a game even if its score is lower or dislike a game even if its score is higher.
However, review scoring is important as it gives the review a lot more power and weight and even leaves the critic himself up for criticism, which is once again important. A review scale like the one used by EZA would also mean that differentiation between games becomes much higher.
If you take for example Rime, Injustice 2 and Battlefield 1 and compare them to Breath of the Wild, which all got a 9/10 from EZA. Many people would argue however, that the latter is way better than the former three. Using a different review scale, the earlier games could actually be at 86/100, while Zelda could sit at 94/100. This is a huge difference, but is absolutely invisible from with the current review scale.
Splatoon 2 is such a good game but it's also a shinning example of why the Switch is such a garbage, poorly designed system
Why? Because it has wireless connection issues? If it's a hardware problem than yeah, sure. But nobody knows this is the case.
Other than that the Switch is genius in it's design and obviously people are loving it way more than if it would be a standard console, the sales numbers speak for themselves.
the problems with the Switch extend farther than the connection issues. the System itself is horribly designed and I would not be surprised if next year there's a New Switch XL 980 Electric Boogaloo edition out fixing the problems
and yea, everyone knows this is the case because the Wifi was completely trash even in MK8. I don't get how they could've fucked it up
and I wouldn't really consider the sales of it to automatically mean it's good designed, the PS4 is even terribly designed
1. the only thing innovating about it is how you can take the controllers out and play it docked (which a stupid indie console already did that)
