Best jazz singer in the world ever! There are others I dig but not so well as Sass. She taught the world how jazz should be sung. She was a consummate musician, played great piano. I miss her music so much and her as well. We all hung out together every night back in the day when she was in town.
Dizzy represents the pioneers of bop, including Thelonius Monk and his mighty pen. Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter bridged the gap from bop to post bop and captured both so artistically. With these artists backing Sassie, how could go wrong. hers was as fine an instrument as any horn blower and yes - she truly was a musician.
If you are hip to the history of modern jazz, you know that Dizzy and Sarah were there at the very beginning, in the studio in 1945 with Bird and other legends, making pioneering records that would change the face of the music forever. To see them reunited on stage all those years later, and performing one of the signature tunes from that early bop era, brings goosebumps.... What does it feel like to be on stage performing music that you literally invented 40 years prior? Surreal stuff...

This is a FUCKING MASTERPIECE. I'm sorry for the language buts exactly what came out as I sat here and listened.
Sarah... The Sassy! Her voice was like a superb wine. It aged beautifully, and got better and better as time went on. x
Her voice is almost instrument. And also emotional. Just amazing.
Dizzy and Sarah: Two jazz legends. RIP.
