Piecing might be period, but screw-ups are timeless! I’ve done exactly that - on my sister’s wedding dress!!! x) “Fixie fixie - nothing to see here!”

I love the authentic reality of showing how you messed something up but then found a way to fix it. That is the reality of creating clothing, learning and growing with your work. I have struggled the same. Thank you for all you do!

Just love how it all wraps and hooks and hides away. It kind of makes it that much more magic and ethereal to now see any sort of closure, because it's a bit "How did she put that on? Did the cosmos just wrap themselves around her?"

I could imagaine Bernadette Banner rolling her eyes at the serger. The Travisity! (Queue melodramatic music) Me personally, I love this idea. I did it for a Princess Jasmine costume I made for my duaghter a few years ago. The fabric she chose was really pretty to look at but it frayed really bad. I alternated between the regualr machine and the over lock as I went. In tje end she was happy and I got out of buying her something from the Disney store. I really love how this came out. It's sew beautiful. You looked a-mazing with it on. I saw the video clips of you still adding stars to it at costume college. Now costume college is on my bucket list. ❤

Lining should be fun, because it gives us room to play with pattern and whimsy. One of my favorite, albeit woefully too small for me after three kids wool jackets, has a loud tropical songbird pattern on the lining in colors I wouldn't be caught dead wearing on the outside of a garment. It just makes me a bit happier every time I see it.

I didnt think I could love this dress any more, but seeing all the attention to detail, all the layering, and even the liitle mistakes has elevated it to holy grail status. Not to mention the Tardis fabric! Serious squeeling when you pulled that out. Have a length of it in my stash that I'm guarding jealously ⭐⭐⭐

I made a coat an inch too small in the arm hole area and was kicking myself thinking I needed to redo the whole sleeve. But like now I can just piece it, it’ll be on the under side so not like anyone is gonna see it anyway.

I really love watching your process, and I love how you and Noelle used fun fabric for the linings, I think it's cool because 1. it CAN save money from using something more expensive, and 2. it can use stash you bought because it's cute and fun but then realize you'll never make anything with it LOL. I have very little fabric in my stash but it's all food themed and it's not something I'd use in a lot of clothes.

Hi, Marika: I found a link on period sewing techniques, which provides some valuable information, which I thought you might be interested in.
Piecing is, to some extent, part of the "visible seam" theme. When fabrics were woven by hand, they usually were only 60-80 cm wide and more expensive than the labour that went into tailoring. Making the most of the fabric available was an art in itself. You may have experienced cases where economical use ofthe fabric wasn't possible just because of a tiny corner of the pattern piece didn't fit onto the fabric. Nowadays, you move the piece until it fits, even if it means that you need half a metre more. In earlier times, one would have thought nothing of cutting the missing corner from some other part of the fabric - even if the seam where it was sewn on was visible, even if the missing corner was only the size of a thumbnail. I've even seen an extant dress where the compère - a highly visible part of the dress - was pieced together out of ten or more pieces without any regard for the (striped!) pattern. -www.marquise.de/en/themes/howto/technik.shtml Your dress turned out, beautifully and I'm sure that it will be a show stopper.

Love the lining, makes it fun. I often do very different linings and it surprises folks. Why be boring?
For the rulers from that book, I copied them and glued them onto paint sticks. Worked out great. Then I create the pattern and do some adjustments for my sway back. I envy you having a dress form. It drives people batty that I have them come in for a few fittings as I work. I'd love to have one of just myself.
How are you able to stitch the hem of the bodice without ironing it first?
Also I like the finished seams that are serged. The stitches aren't going anywhere.
